now thinking of white, CCB, black bi-xenons. not sure about full leather or not....

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

Congrats, Peter, all is well that ends well...but beware, it is just a very different animal to your current 458, less punch in a straight line, no contest in corners/on track.

I went for white with black rims and standard brakes (because I track it a lot).

A friend of mine has just taken delivery of a white RS with silver grey rims and PCCB, looks like a great combo as well.

I like the standard alcantara bits and I am agnostic as to full leather, given its track toy usuage.

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

full leather is worthwhile .. you get more alcantara too .. and more stitching

more things to appreciate and enjoy whenever you are driving and full concentration is not required

I would get GT Silver .. it's FOC

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

I have just received word form my OPC that, as they went about exchanging the spark plugs and coils as part of the mini recall, they discovered parts of one of the plugs had broken off.

They are now trying to determine, with the help of a camera inspection, if any damage has been caused by this incident in the affected cylinder, the factory has already been notified.

Worst (or maybe even best) case scenario is a complete engine replacement!!!

    Unbelievable!

    luckily your OPC is vigilant.

a new engine won't be so bad .. it's like a new car all over again

I did full leather because I liked the carbon bits that are added to the doors and most of all: the alcantara(!) added beneath the dash. But... it won't make you faster . It justs looks good.

I did not have full leather on my GT3 997.1 and did not miss it at all. (I'm actually not sure if 997.1's came with full leather at all.)

Cast iron discs are good because:

1 More pads to choose from

2 No stones that get squeezed between the caliper and the rim

3 You can get a sponge in between the caliper and the rim - which is good because you need to clean the rim more often then with PCCB's.

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

I have full leather/microfiber interior too. The car just feel nicer inside, the added cost is minimal.

I also skipped PCCB, all the factory RSs that were at Paul Ricard also don't have PCCB, that tells you as much.

Had the black out LEDs, personally I feel it looks better.

Wanted the lithium battery, but Porsche took that off my order cause they don't have it back then.

Front lift is personal choice, I needed it for around town.

90L tank is a must, freebie option from Porsche :)

That's about all the major options, the rest is all cosmetic and personal choices.

Oh the sports chrono with the track app, I got that too.

Go for the LEDs. They look terrific with the 4-dot daytime running light IMO. A must-have on the RS IMO. Much more aggressive look than xenon and this suits perfectly to the overall design of the RS.

I beg to differ. The four dots distract from the whole headlight, I don't like the design at all and due to the excessive light from the four dots, the headlights actually look almost clear when the dots are on, no black in them at all. Actually one of the things I never liked on my 991 Turbo S and the reason I chose Bi-Xenon (black) for my C4 GTS Cab.

I'm with RC on this one.... I purposefully just went the black xenon headlights as a result.

on new allocations for the RS: i asked my dealer whether mine is part of additional allocations for the RS. his answer is no, there won't be more than planned (according to him...) but this time around they had to proceed differently: the dealerships had to submit a list of their preordering clients with comments (like current vehicles, profession etc.) and then the PAG chose whom to assign cars to. also the dealerships were asked whether they would accept additional panamera allocations to 'earn' GT3RS allocations. mine got away with one only pana which thankfully they did not pass on to me......:::))))

glad i got it, still sore because fiat passed me up on the TdF:::(((

Have had two days there with the new car on Nordschleife. Wife drove it mostly the first day and then I drove it the second day.

It was a lot of partially wet laps. Which was good. Gave me the opportunity to get used to the car.
Started out with 70% wet. Sun all day. No wind. End of day maybe 25% wet.
Unfortunately some of the faster parts where wet.

The last lap for the day was a 8.06. I guess one more lap had gotten me under 8.

    8.0.6 Dry and wet

Here's a slower wetter lap where there is some grass driving at 4.50

8.55 Wet and dry and some grass

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

Impressive driving and good times in these conditions! How do you rate the 991 RS on the Nordschleife? I assume it's quite a bit easier to go fast with it?

    Porker:

Tricky question. Doing a fast lap in the 997.1 GT3 is a hard job, very physical. You are sometimes driving the car with just one hand on the steering wheel thru corners to get a good shift point. The timing of the shifting is so important and if you loose concentration for just a short time you pay for it. If you miss a shift  in the 997 your lap is wasted - regarding to laptime. When going faster in the 997 at for instance the jump at Schwedencreutz you might end up in a situation where there is no time left for downshifting or even proper braking. (Of course this is also something you must train and get used to.)

The 991 RS's limit is on a different scale compared to the 997.1 GT3. Naturally.
The PDK helps you doing shifts in situatiuon where it maybe would have been impossible with the manual.
Especially good in a dry/wet situation.

I would say that the 991 RS is much safer to go fast in on the Nordschleife than the 997.1 GT3.
You can feel that the car is more composed and stable in a lot of parts of the track where the 997.1 is more nervous.

I'm a carefull driver, I try not to overdrive and I try to build speed from below. It takes it's time but it is rewarding.
When I signed up for the RS I actually looked for a 997.2 RS or a 4.0 RS because I felt I needed a new toy and that I wanted a slightly better car to be able to go faster without necessary drive to close to the limit - my limit.

Which one is the funnest to drive?

Very difficult to say... It is like comparing apples to oranges. I know the 997 GT3 inside out. Driven it a lot. We are best friends. Amazing capable car.
The RS: A new friend which I'm just are in the beginning of, what I hope, will be a rewarding friendship. I don't know the car good enough yet. All I can say for the moment  is that I'm faster in it.
But judging from following Peter Trakcar and his adventures with his RS I will probably end up loving and enjoying this car to.

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

Thanks Dan, love these real-life comparisons!

I think I would feel the same about the 991. I would love to have it as an addition to the 997 RS, but not to replace it. They're so different that they actually complement each other in my opinion.
