    It's probably even cheaper than a late model S-tronic and the manual is quite nice in the R8. Nice gated shifter that just feels nice IMO. I quite like the clanky/notchy aspect of it.

    With manuals going the way of the dinosaurs, the R8 is one of the last and best.

    I'd buy a V10 manual if you're looking at a first-gen V10.

    No, only the R8 V10 Plus (after 2013 I think) with the new gearbox and upgraded tech/chassis is worth the money.

    The gated manual shifter will be the rarity (and more fun), imo.

    The R8 V10 Plus (previous generation) has been greatly improved when they introduced the new (auto) gearbox. I wouldn't want to lose these improvements just for the "fun" of having manual.

    That is a subjective choice.

    I would get the S-Tronic too; but I can understand that some would prefer the manual. Also, I would not be surprised if a manual "Plus" would be much more valuable than an S-Tronic a few years from now.

    Ran into the new R8 on my way back to Vancouver from Whistler. First I followed him, then he followed me. Had a 'spirited' drive, ended up doing the trip in slightly less than an hr.

    Just noticed that configuration sites finally open in NA for the R8; US starting prices $163k for base, $190 for Plus.  Bigger difference than I thought - base R8 a relative bargain, in speed limited US also "sufficient" power as the English say...

    Shows just how shitty the R8 Spyder design is given it's practically the same car as this. The low, flat deck is what makes the R8 Spyder so shitty looking IMO.

    I don't think length has changed, shorter than a 991.  The split side blades now allow an uninterrupted body line, which may be partly why the car looks longer.

    The old one without that side skirt looks much better. That hideous plastic - pardon - carbon shield is senseless and looks hideous on coupe like on spider.
