Re: 3-Eleven laps the Ring in 7 minutes 6 seconds

    vantagesc:

Congrats!  What color are you going for?

Historically I have felt like Lotus has a very interesting color palette (as does McLaren), but it seems like Lotus is going for more of a Porsche color palette as of late.

    Thanks guys! Smiley

@vantagesc, I'm afraid I'm going to deceive you, as I wish to pick boring Starlight Black again, like all of my previous Lotus. Smiley Although I see what you mean. I have just checked the colour range. They used to offer more shades of each colour. I hope they will let me choose metallic black. I wouldn't want one of their launch edition paint schemes with stripes like they did on the 2-11 when it first came out.

@Gnil, The GT3 is gone. The 311 is going to take its place at the Nordschleife playground.

Hope to see you all next year for a couple of laps together. Smiley

    Gauss,

It will look sinister in black!  Admittedly my Lotus is in storm titanium, hardly a wild color, but I enjoy others going for skittle colors like saffron yellow, chili red, polar blue, etc.

Re: 3-Eleven laps the Ring in 7 minutes 6 seconds

    http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20151116005947/en/Hexion-Helps-Lotus-Fastest-Production-Road-Car

A specially formulated glass- and carbon-fiber epoxy resin system from Hexion Inc. (“Hexion” or “the Company), processed at Hexion’s Combined Composite Technologies (CCT) business unit based in Fareham, UK, is helping Lotus take lighter, faster sports cars to the next level. Hexion’s custom resin system, along with CCT’s novel process for producing the composite automotive panels on the Lotus 3-Eleven, have resulted in weight savings of 40 percent over other Lotus models.

    [...]

The key to the lightweight panels is a bespoke resin infusion composite process from Hexion. A preform binder is applied during the layup of glass fiber reinforcement in panel molds to fixate the fiber in the desired shapes. Then the heated mold tools are pressurized and infused with a custom epoxy resin system at high pressure. By closely controlling the temperature, flow and pressure of the resin through the molds, Hexion’s process minimizes the amount of resin required – reducing panel weight – while maximizing quality and finish

Re: 3-Eleven laps the Ring in 7 minutes 6 seconds

I've taken the decision to cancel my order.

As some may have read in the press release, Lotus have cut the power of the road version from 450 to 410 hp (race version OTOH has 460 hp). Weight has also increased from sub 900 to 925kg, as has the price.

While this may not sound like much, it is reason enough for me to back out of the contract. I knew that Lotus had the right to change the specifications and that's why I am now able to opt out and get my refund back. It's a bit disappointing nonetheless. I didn't want to keep this car for long, maybe 2 years, but with the Exige successor on the horizon, which will presumeably get 400 hp for a good chunk less money, I see my resale later becoming a much harder endeavor now that they have changed the specs to the worse.

I don't blame you - that would be disappointing to me too.  Most smart companies improve the specs when the production version comes to market (not reduce).  Even the American companies have been making the production versions much faster than the "estimates" provided at the car shows.  Not good marketing to do the reverse...

Re: 3-Eleven laps the Ring in 7 minutes 6 seconds

Unsure at this moment. Although I can see myself waiting for the upcoming 991.2 GT3 (RS).

A "streetlegal" GT4 Clubsport would be the perfect car kiss but this will never happen, not within the 981 range at least, and the successor is too far away.

What a bummer an. On the other hand, even a 3-Eleven with additional 25Kg and 50 HP less would be hard to beat on the track. If really necessary, I would ask a Komotec for a small upgrade https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHAhnf9nsok

Wrt a successor with 400 HP. Is this confirmed by Lotus?

Re: 3-Eleven laps the Ring in 7 minutes 6 seconds

I don't think so, but since Evora now has 400hp with same engine, it is a matter of time before the Exige V6 gets same power.

Re: 3-Eleven laps the Ring in 7 minutes 6 seconds

Yes, but it's the lighter race version with 470 PS and Xtrac sequential gearbox etc...the comparison "faster than Porsche 918" is therefore a bit silly because many race cars are.
