pmarkow:all in all a part bin exercise, as predicted here. rather underwhelming. why would one choose this over the gt3 991.2 manual? except of course to make money on it
Totally agree. I would skip the R and go for any other 991 GTx. The R is flashy, is not lighter, only has two seats and no PDK. The 991.1 GT3 regular or RS is a much better option for the price and if the rumor is true the 991.2 GT3 is the one to get for manual diehards. The R is the first or last of nothing and totally a parts bin exercise (except for the shorter manual transmission? Yawn). Again, they should have chopped the roof and charge $30k more, that would be special.
As we all know, this is again Porsche marketing at its best.

pmarkow:next gt3 will also have the rs engine, if i understood whoopsy correctly
No.
As AP puts it, the current GT3's engine is gen 1, the current GT3RS engine is gen 1.5.
The race motor in the 911R is gen 2, even when it's sounds so similar to the current RS engine on paper, but the race motor has less output with the restrictor, 475 vs 500. It will have a completely new oiling system when compared with the current gen 1 and gen 1.5 motors.
A variant of that motor will go into the next GT3, which AP calls the get 2.5 engine.

+1
The next GT3 is the car to have. Not this R.

Considering the price I have paid for my GT4, it is the bargain of the century.
911R looks nice, but not truly breathtaking. Guess it driving experience will make it shine, as usual with Porsche halo cars. I also believe the 991.2 GT3 is the car to have.

Someone is going to say something
Sorry, correction needed. With radio and AC the R is 10kg more than a 991.1 Carrera

991.2 GT3 yes. 992.2 GT3 RS not 100% sure, maybe 80% (developing is rolling but...). 991 GT2 RS quite sure (and much more than just a current 991.2 Turbo S without AWD).
991 R engine using 991.2 GT3 tech...surprise surprise.

Kobalt:Someone at Rennlist said that it has a Carrera type wing...
Since when does the Carrera have a wing? It has only a deployable "wing", so if he means that?
I can't exclude that Porsche will show the 911 R with a ducktail to make US customers happy but I hope they don't. This car looks so beautiful without any wing...

Well, I should have written spoiler.

Yes, you should. Please don't make such blatant mistakes again which the forum admin needs to correct.
