    LP997:

    http://www.automoblog.net/2015/10/21/porsche-911-r-gets-gt3-engine-manual-transmission/

So let me see: Porsche put a 991 GT3 and a 991 GT3 RS with PDK on the market but they would build a limited edition 991 R (or whatever) with GT3 engine and manual transmission? Does this sound right to you?

I know that during 991 GT3 development, Porsche also had some GT3 running with manual for comparison/testing purposes. I also heard that there were big challenges with AWS setup, one major reason Porsche didn't offer manual for the GT3.

Now if Porsche decides to build a manual GT3 without AWS, well...why not. The new 991 is also available with that combo (manual/AWS). However, I doubt this car will have the track performance of a GT3/GT3RS, so I still doubt that Porsche would do that. AWS plays a huge role in the improved handling performance.

I rather think that Porsche will put a 991 R with GTS engine, maybe 10 or 20 horses more and manual on the market, if this car will have manual. It will cost Porsche much less, it will still be fast and if production is limited, well...

Still, I wish I could be excited about this model but I'm not. Why? Even if it would be a car with manual and GT3 engine, the price tag will be beyond good and evil. So it will very likely end up in some collection, not really what I had in mind when I wished for such a car.

I've been told that it IS with GT3 engine and manual. And someone I know already has money down for one and the order was accepted by Porsche Australia.

For now only Porsche dealers can accept the reservation. To be an order it has to be confirmed by Porsche. I have also a reservation, which is worth .... few cents paper.

What I have heard is the normal procedure getting 991 R: you have to have 10 or more cars bought, 918 buyers are preferred and buyers who races. I have heard that 991 GT3 RS buyers will not get a special treatment Smiley

I don't think Porsche said anything about this car - yet. I expect some news the 27 October (if I remember correctly)  but nothing is for sure.

Let's hope it is a true light-weight worthy of its name.

    Re: 911 R Thema geschlossen

For me, this car is not interesting, simply because I do not have the money and I cannot sell it immediately if I wanted to. 6 months is the waiting period (as far as I heard, similar to 918). I know I should get it, had the same feeling with the 918 and GT3 RS, because I could sell it at a premium but for me, the risk is just too high, especially since I do not want to sell it in the 6 months period and lose my "privileges" (you never know what the future brings and I may actually be seriously interested in that 960...).

Well yes and no RC. Our dealer is owned by Porsche Australia which is literally one staircase upstairs from them. They never do anything without consulting Porsche Australia. So draw your own conclusion.

Porsche cannot confirm ordering a product they haven't announced yet. This is a general rule and valid for Porsche Australia as well. Only dealers can confirm orders but they still would need to run them by Porsche. So most dealers accept pre-orders but other than that, they are, like ALDO already said, just a piece of paper worth...nothing. Smiley

Fair comment. Very curious to see what happens in terms of what the car ends up being.

    Re: 911 R Thema geschlossen

I know someone with a deposit on it at another dealership. even tho he is outside the expected allocation list. i.e.,someone in front has to cancel his/her order.

dealer said he's pretty sure its a GT3 engine, narrow body, 4 seats.  and he expects to only get 4 cars (in TOTAL!)

price?  between GT3 and GT3RS is the expectation.   i.e., high AUD 300k.

    arriving mid 2016 in OZ.

if 991.2 GT3 is remains NA and manual is offered.  I don't know how relevant the 911R is....

but if Porsche does indeed use the name 911R. you would hope it's a special car.

I wonder what the dealer does with the deposit money?

Apparently Porsche Australia has 140 GT4 orders for only an allocation of 70 cars for OZ.

    so... that's (minimum) $1000 x 70 = 70k  just for the GT4.

I never understood that deposit thing. In Germany, you put your signature under the contract/order and you're done. You don't want the car anymore? The "fine" is 20% of the car value but if you're a good customer and there is high demand, the dealer may find another customer or the car and you're good.

Payment is due when the car arrives at the dealer, shortly before you pick it up.

In the US, I have to give $1k deposit, but it is refundable (until you actually spec the car) - seems like an easier way to go than a possible 20% hit.

Yes indeed but are the deposits legally binding for the dealers? Contracts/fixed orders are.

    Re: 911 R Thema geschlossen

No, people with deposits get screwed out of their place in line all the time here.  So, I guess it's a trade-off.  Easy to make a speculative order, but hard to ensure that you get the car at the right time (or at all).

I realize it is a fake, but it looks good! I decyphered the reading on the plate as "porsche centrum gelderland", which is half n hours drive from my parents, so I might go and take a look :-)
