The price of $160K USD is not c/w previous limited editions like the Speedster or the non US Sport Classic, but perhaps there is a first time for everything.

The RS 4.0 was $180k and was probably more special than the R...

The RS 4.0 was more than it's GT3 RS "counterpart".

You have the final spec of the car? me i have just rumor...Wait Geneva and ok after say me is more special than an RS 4.0 ok? ;)

The R won't have a 'special' engine like the 4.0 in the 997 RS 4.0 version. It will run on the 'regular' GT3 3.8L engine for one.

Last information I had was the 4.0 l from the GT3 RS but I also know that they had thermodynamical issues because of the lack of the side vents and word was that the R gets "only" 470-480 hp to cope with that issue but using the 3.8 l engine would probably make sense as well. We just need to wait and see. The car I saw had PDK and rear seats, so a lot seems to be going on with R development.

No, the latest information was no rear seats and no PDK but 4.0 l engine.

However, since the car doesn't seem to have the green light yet, it could also mean that the Porsche bosses weren't happy with the car they "saw" and maybe things will change. Maybe a 3.8 l engine, maybe PDK, maybe rear seats, whatever but no matter how the car will be available: If it is limited edition (around 600 cars as rumored before), it will not be the bargain many seem to hope for. Not even close.

    Re: 911 R Thread Closed

    911 R (1967) had a high rev engine.

    the 991 R should have a similar engine with a 3.8 510 HP... engine... = 135 HP / L

How would the 3.8L get 35hp more than before?  It already revs to 9k (and has not been without incident).  Don't think the compression can go much higher and still work on pump fuel.  Maybe different camshafts that make peak hp right at 9k?

if the R 991 is very light , it should be , we can imagine a sharper motor with less torque down and more power at the top . Less torque down allows for narrower tires ... it's a virtuous circle.

I'll just take the 4.0, please.  I can survive with only 8,800 rpm Smiley  Even though the 67 911R had an engine exactly half as large, it only revved to 8k.

The extra torque will be nice with a 6 speed...

    Re: 911 R Thread Closed

The 1967 911 remains to date the lightest factory road legal 911 ever made (800 Kg) . I would assume that one of the main features of the 991 R will be the weight (last I heard was 1350 Kg).

    Re: 911 R Thread Closed

Since the GT3 is 1,428 1,350 seems very far...

If it is the last non GT , naturally aspirated  911 , then it could make sense to have an even more special engine in it. One of the highights of the 1967 R was the engine itself : directly taken from the racing Carrera 6 . I sincerely hope Porsche will install a blue printed GT3 RS engine in it. All of this is speculation though.

    Re: 911 R Thread Closed

The 911 R engine will be pretty much the same Porsche has in their inventory, with some adaptation to different thermodynamics (lack of side vents) and manual transmission.

Don't forget that in the past (many decades ago), the emissions/noise regulations were not even close to the current restrictions. So it was pretty easy for Porsche to use a certain (racing derived) setup. These times have gone...a long time ago.

All valid arguments. I still hope Porsche will surprise us with something exciting. Well few weeks more and the long wait will be over. Btw latest rumor  I heard is that the production number is between 900 and 1000 .

    Re: 911 R Thread Closed

900-1000? This means they have raised production number. A bit too much in my opinion, unless they make the car cheaper (but I highly doubt it). Let's see if it gets the green light (haven't heard anything new yet).

Special? Well, many GT3 RS parts, GT3 RS engine (maybe 3.8 GT3 but I heard 4.0), lots of light weight parts, GT3 chassis and brake system (PCCB may be optional), to me this car already sounds very special if you ask me.

Yes special for sur and like i said body panel in Carbon and the 4.0 RS, very light...But the number of 900-1000 never heard that like i said 500-600 worldwide cars...

Just a hint since I can not tell more at the moment, even via PMs...

Got an indepth info and it confirms what Aldo wrote here already. Some people will be pleased, some will be stunned and others will be deeply disappointed.  Car will divide opinions as much as possible.

Little bit more... If you are Porsche collector(or fluent speculator) or die hard manual fanatic(which can spend that much) go for it. But, if you already own 991 GT3 or GT3 RS and love it (especially PDK-S) do not bother. Your car is faster in every way and as much invloving as forthcoming 911 R.

If I had the money I would get the 997 4.0l RS instead of any of the above.

But unfortunately we will see fewer and fewer of these on the tracks because of the crazy pricing.
So if you had one - would you drive it?
