Re: Tesla Model X Thread Closed

Tesla's problem is that they can't match their aggressive ramp up schedule of the Model 3.

400k outstanding orders and they have delivered less than 1000 cars up to now.

By the time they can start shipping them in volume they projected, others will be in the market, as in 2018,19.

Quite a few on the wait list will jump ship.

A friend of mine from our local Porsche Club is an automation systems tech guy whose company supplies automotive accounts like Tesla.

He said Tesla will finally get there with the "Model 3", but it will be messy.

His analysis of their problem contends that they hired a whole bunch of millennial know-it-alls with no experience (fresh ideas only) who try to force their naive notions into existence without benefit of prior experience.

He said it was painful to interact with them.  They try hard, but have to reinvent others' mistakes and won't listen to cogent arguments to the contrary.

If that is the case, I think they will get there eventually, but it might be a long and painful process. Hope they don't get overtaken by reality in the mean time. I still have high hopes for Tesla, but guess if they don't make it, they'll just be snapped up by a mainstream automotive company.

    Ouch!

Tesla Model 3 Hits Craigslist For $150,000

Customers who reserve a Tesla Model 3 are stuck facing a waiting list of between 12 and 18 months and potentially even longer.

If you're impatient and have money to burn, you'll be happy to know a Model 3 has just surfaced on Craigslist.

Located in Santa Cruz, California, the vehicle is being billed as the first Model 3 to hit the second-hand market. The seller admits they were "not really sure how to price the car" but listed the vehicle for $150,000 because of the "obvious demand."

That's a significant chunk of change but the car comes equipped with desirable options such as a panoramic glass roof and a long-range battery. Other niceties include a premium audio system, aero wheels, and the premium interior package which includes heated seats, open pore wood trim, and two additional USB charging ports.

The vehicle is described as being in "like new" condition and has just 2,100 miles on the odometer. The seller also says the fit and finish are "excellent for an early production model."

Tesla Unexpectedly Slashes Hundreds Of Jobs

Speaking to http://www.mercurynews.com/2017/10/13/4819750/"The San Jose Mercury News,  a number of former and current Tesla employees estimated that between  400 to 700 works had lost their jobs in administrative, sales and  manufacturing positions.

On the back of completing internal annual performance reviews, http://www.carscoops.com/2017/10/take-another-in-depth-look-at-tesla.html"Tesla says it offered bonuses and promotions to a number of employees.

Word of these job cuts come a couple of weeks after http://www.carscoops.com/2017/10/tesla-fails-to-meet-model-3-targets-as.html"Tesla confirmed  it had built just 260 Model 3s in the third quarter. This was well down  on Elon Musk’s estimates of building 100 units in August and over 1,500  examples in September.

Interesting reading on the Model 3 production.

I really wonder how the quality of this model 3 will be.

Tesla Posts $619 Million Quarterly Loss, Further Delays Model 3

Tesla has posted its largest quarterly loss ever, confirming a net loss of $619.4 million and delaying volume production of the Model 3 by roughly three months.

Maybe time to buy Tesla stocks at under 100 bucks? Just kidding but it doesn't look good for Tesla.

3 months delay. Where is the news? Stock ticks down and will recover everything by the time the 3 month delay is erased. Billions have been lost being short Tesla.

Re: Tesla Model X Thread Closed

Keep in mind they'll be raising plenty of capital early next year as well, quite possibly from dilutions.

And how can you be certain it's only a 3 month delay? What if it ends up a 6 month delay? They've been wrong about their estimates for a long time and they're burning huge amounts of cash which probably will force the capital raise again soon.

Re: Tesla Model X Thread Closed

Announcements are made 3 months at a time. If the stock recovers by then and a 3 month delay is announced, rince and repeat.

The stock is valued where it is because of the vision, not because of the financials. There is no rationality to where the price is and the numbers. That’s why people lost billions. Being long Tesla is not investing, it is believing in a man and a vision. You do or you don’t, the price is irrelevant.

Re: Tesla Model X Thread Closed

3 months ago he said 3 months from now...

And look at Autopilot. They're still marketing cars as being equipped for full self-driving, but they're not even close and owners are definitely starting to believe they're nowhere near what they claim. Just check out the Reddit for Tesla. Tons of people, big fans of Tesla, and not really believing what Tesla says anymore.

Tesla can succeed in it's vision without being financially successful. Look at smartphone makers who make little to no profit. They still make 10s of millions of phones which creates competition and provides a decent device for a massive amount of people, but the business itself isn't worth much.

That's how I see Tesla. They'll be a financial meh for long-term investors at this point, but they'll still make and sell lots of cars. Fiat makes and sells lots of cars, but they aren't worth much...

Tesla needs to hurry with the model 3. German car makers just came to an agreement about charging stations along highways in Germany. It is a first step to electric mobility.

I still think however that it is going to take years for electric vehicles to be successful in major parts of Europe. Unless there are incentives nobody can resist, like for example bonuses for buying ELVs, cheap electricity and lower insurance/tax cost.

True, especially for larger countries like Germany and France. For smaller countries like the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg, etc, I see a good opportunity for electric vehicles. A typical commute here is less than 50km and less than an hour's drive. Electric mobility is a perfect "solution".

(Solution between quotation signs because in the end the energy to transport all these people still needs to be generated)

    Summary

    • Tesla's about face on Model 3 will have severe consequences.
    • Tesla is facing a cash and credit crunch within the next 90 days.
    • We expect a capital raise to be difficult and expect the stock to plummet.

Re: Tesla Model X Thread Closed

What can a Tesla Model 3 offers that a Chevy Bolt or even Volt cannot?

None, except the brand name. Hell the Chevy probably have a better interior than the Tesla.

If everyone recharges their electric car every night like ALL Tesla cultists says they do, then the range issue is not even an issue.

Tesla needs to move on now to trucking, where they have no competitions in order to survive.

Dumb argument. Brand alone is enough.

The Model 3 is better looking inside and out than the Bolt/Volt anyway.

One can purchase a Chevrolet Bolt, one can’t do the same with a Tesla Model 3.   Until then, the Model 3 is vaporware.

Before you point to the Model 3’s order book consider that the Ford Model A when announced in 1927 had over 400,000 orders within two weeks and nearly 800,000 orders in the United States before it went on sale.  So Tesla’s order book isn’t without precedent and remains just hype.
