P.S.: @Gnil. Fine is never good enough for a woman. Never ever. You need to use the words "amazing", "breathtaking" or "beautiful". I learned that the hard way in a marriage of over 22 years. Smiley Sometimes I ask my wife if she wants my honest opinion or not and in 99% of the cases, she says "not". Smiley Smiley

You should also never say "better than the last one", even if it is. indecision

    Re: Michelin Tire Outage

'Go figure' is an interesting one.. It comes from American English rather than British English, and isn't really commonly used in British English.

The nicest short definition I found was: "It's an idiom; the equivalent of a shrug in body language.".  It's certainly not an inference that someone should get their facts right.

    Another couple of nice ones:

From Myles Potters, location unknown: “I think go figure has less emphasis on figuring something out and is more of a revelation that something just is, peppered with a hint of disbelief that it can be so.”

From Michael Aaron, Perigord, France: “ ‘Who would have guessed?’ or “ ‘What are the chances?’ might be sufficient, if longer, substitutes for go figure, which imparts a sense of befuddlement; thus it can be interpreted as a type of statement-question.”

I've also always thought of it as a relatively recent slang version of ‘Who would have guessed?’, or shorter alternative to "Who would have thought it", which also gets (intentionally) corrupted to "Who'da thunk it".
Not necessarily intended to be offensive, unless the context in which it is used makes it so.

Very interesting . So the way I meant it and understood it was actually not wrong Smiley

But if even amongst  english speaking people it is not clear , we will have very hard times communicating ! Smiley

    Re: Michelin Tire Outage

The above examples may well define the American interpretation, but not the British.  Also tone of delivery could well have a part to play...

    Enough of off-topic methinks...
