Haze isn't too bad there at the moment. Lots of friends over there right now.

Re: 2015 Singapore F1 Grand Prix at Marina Bay

    So, any predictions, high hopes?
As for me, last race was rather dull, so I 'm hoping for a lot more spectacle this time and of course Verstappen should be in a better position now to hopefully get some points again!

Hamilton not at Pole after such a long streak, he's 5th, what happened?

Re: 2015 Singapore F1 Grand Prix at Marina Bay

I think it's Malaysia all over again, but more so: the Mercedes cars obviously do not like the heat and humidity.

The bigger news this weekend, I think, is that, right now, Red Bull doesn't have an engine for 2016, although they are trying to get Ferrari engines, at least in the short-term, and they are also talking to VW/Audi (who are apparently considering acquiring Cosworth) about becoming an engine supplier to F1. And, it appears to be anyone's guess whether Renault will take over Lotus or drop out of F1 altogether, their future in the sport seemingly depending on how negotiations over up-front payments go with Ecclestone.

Re: 2015 Singapore F1 Grand Prix at Marina Bay

Button looked in a good mood after the race and will announce what the future holds for him within the next two weeks. Judging by his smiles he may just have got himself in a good team next season. We shall see, be interesting to see him in one of the top teams, just can't imagine it though.

1.5 seconds per lap off the pace - Mercedes have it all to do tomorrow!

Should prove an interesting duel, although I wouldn't put it past some 'stage management' involved tactics in an effort to re-introduce some competiveness to the proceedings?

Credit though to Vettel for a fantastic final Q3 lap when it wasn't really needed to secure pole!

Re: 2015 Singapore F1 Grand Prix at Marina Bay

Unless Hamilton or Rosberg has an incredible start tomorrow, I don't even think Mercedes will be on the podium, barring mechanical failures and/or crashes by Ferrari and Red Bull. Even with a great start, considering their lack of pace, I expect them to give up position on the pit stop(s) at least.

I predict a win for Vettel, but less certain of the order 2-4.

Re: 2015 Singapore F1 Grand Prix at Marina Bay

Vettel has massive pace last night, but race pace is much closer between the Ferrari boys and also RBR. Don't put it past Ricciardo to challenge Vettel.

Re: 2015 Singapore F1 Grand Prix at Marina Bay

Not counting him out, I actually expect a good fight tomorrow, or, later today, I guess, in your case.

Should be a good race! It's personal especially for Vettel, having been beaten so comprehensively by Ricciardo last year. And yes, it's 10.55am here now and 8:55am in Singapore so it's race day 😍!

Re: 2015 Singapore F1 Grand Prix at Marina Bay

Yeah, I wonder what the fallout from that will be.

A somewhat eventful race, although, not up front, really, with Vettel basically just covering Ricciardo all day. More than a bit surprised to see Raikkonen so far behind them, though. Rosberg's turn to win the lottery, although, he wasn't in position to cash in like Hamilton did at Monza.

And what the hell was that idiot doing walking on the track? This being Singapore, I imagine he'll have the flesh caned off his back for that infraction. I don't imagine Verstappen will be treated that harshly.

Re: 2015 Singapore F1 Grand Prix at Marina Bay

I'm wondering why suddenly Mercedes lost all of their speed?!

Maybe that was related to the tire pressure (water) gate from Monza and we'll see in the next races to come the same performance as in Singapur?

In Monza Merc GP was almost ,5s per lap faster and from one day to another they're 1,4/1,5s slower than the competition (Ferrari) and even slower than Red Bull..

This is pathetic, it seems as Merc has cheated @Monza and now they'll suffer badly... :-(

But still I'll cheer for LH (and also NR) rather than for SV!

Re: 2015 Singapore F1 Grand Prix at Marina Bay

As I indicated above, I think they lost their speed, and ability to manage tires, in the heat and humidity of Singapore, just like they lost it in Malaysia early in the season. I don't think it has anything to do with tire pressure, and I think they'll be leaving everyone behind again at Suzuka.

Likely, the problem is with the ERS system, which Hamilton apparently lost altogether, causing him to retire.

Re: 2015 Singapore F1 Grand Prix at Marina Bay

    @apias

it wasn't the ERS which caused the retirement of LH, but due to a problem of a loose screw from the airbox which blocked the turbocharger (somehow)!

Re: 2015 Singapore F1 Grand Prix at Marina Bay

Interesting. I always thought Hamilton had a screw loose. indecision

I still wonder if the heat and humidity didn't interfere with the ERS, and that's why they were slow at Malaysia and Singapore. Although, they did seem to also have trouble with tires both times, so maybe it's nothing to do with the PU.

Re: 2015 Singapore F1 Grand Prix at Marina Bay

I followed the race live with the F1 App and judging by the times just before LHs car failure he was the quickest of the leading bunch for several laps in a row and catching up big time!!

Also LH and NR had the right strategy by choosing the soft tyre at the moment as the super softs were supposed not to last very much longer than just until LH had to retire resp. the maniac was walking on the race track (which caused a SC period)...

Without that issues I'd bet that LH would have easyly been on the podium if not he could even had been the winner (as overtaking on that circuit is almost impossible).

Coming sunday is super race day...first F1 @Suzuka in the morning, at noon Moto GP @Aragon

    GO LH

    GO VR46

Re: 2015 Singapore F1 Grand Prix at Marina Bay

Not true. Vettel was driving slow on purpose at that point.

Re: 2015 Singapore F1 Grand Prix at Marina Bay

He had to drive slowly as he was well aware the LH found his (race) speed again and that he's the only real treat to him!

As you could see just a few moments after the problems with LH started he was changing his speed immediately...

NR was of the pace the whole weekend

Re: 2015 Singapore F1 Grand Prix at Marina Bay

Vettel was driving only fast enough to maintain a gap on Ricciardo, and every time Ricciardo closed that gap, Vettel increased his pace for a lap or two to pull it out again. There is absolutely no way Hamilton would have gotten past Ricciardo and Vettel. I doubt that he would even have gotten by Raikkonen, who I think was also taking it easy back in 3rd. Hamilton's "race pace" was deceptively good only because the leaders were driving strategically, not flat out.

Re: 2015 Singapore F1 Grand Prix at Marina Bay

I don't think so, please keep in mind that he was on the softs, the leaders were all on the super-softs!

An LH was quicker or at least on the same pace...

Maybe he wouldn't get past SV, but DC and especially KR were in his reach!

Re: 2015 Singapore F1 Grand Prix at Marina Bay

He was on the same pace because they were going slow, not because he was going fast. No one was actually within his reach. If he had challenged Raikkonen, Raikkonen would have upped his pace, resulting in the two drivers in front of him upping theirs as well. Hamilton said on the radio that he thought he could challenge them, but he simply didn't understand what was going on around him.

Re: 2015 Singapore F1 Grand Prix at Marina Bay

    Don't think so!

Even if they were going slow the super soft was 1,5s faster than the soft and it had a way shorter longlevity...

    However, we'll never find out...

A British national who walked onto the track during the Singapore Grand Prix in September has been sentenced to six weeks in jail by a local court. Yogvitam Pravin Dhokia, 27, breached security fences and wandered onto the circuit, taking photographs while the Formula 1 race was under way."
