This seems sort of like BMW trying to repeat formula from 1M.
vantagesc:The basic rumors seem to be:
- N55 (six cylinder) engine with roughly 365 HP and 343 lb-ft, overboost providing an additional 25 lb-ft , may share some parts with S55 from M4
- Four colors at launch: Long Beach Blue; Alpine White; Mineral Grey; Sapphire black
- No carbon fiber roof like big brother M4
- 19" wheels standard
- Interior in black dakota leather with blue stitching

Another family car with an M-badge. Snoozefest. I bet it is heavier than the E46 M3. I want to see a "lightweight" track toy from BMW, a CSL a la GT4.

I may replace my M4 with this. It's a much better size for me. Only issue I have with them is the boring interior. It will look just like my old M135i including the use of the same cheap leather as opposed to the high end smooth leather in the M4. Of course you also can't get things like the full leather interior in my M4. I think I can at least get some carbon fibre for the interior which helps a little.
A bit OT , but I just read an article about the soon to end downsizing of engines. New mesures for CO2 / fuel consumption starting in 2017 will be much more close to reality. And the small turbo charged engines will not get good results anymore . There is often a 40 % difference between the official mesures and reality in fuel consumption . These small engines have been tuned just to pass the test on the bench . Bigger engines will have a much better real world result .
First example is the new VW Polo GTI . They dropped the 1.4 l turbo for a 1.8 l . Only problem ...... red zone starts at 4500 RPM , for a fuel engine .
That said, I am happy to see they are not going with a small 4 cylinder on the M2 . I have always liked those 6 in lines .

sfo:BMW M has lots its way
There isn't a single M car, and not a single BMW that I am interested in.
Same here.
Actually, the new X5 M is quite interesting because it looks good, it has an amazing performance (for a SUV) and a much more attractive price tag than the Cayenne Turbo or other competitors for example. However, the exhaust sound is ridiculous for such a powerful car with a V8.
Other than that, I have no desire to get a BMW M model (or any BMW) right now. They look and are boring. Drove a 135M last year, fun car for the money but still, after a couple of weeks, I would feel bored. Liked the M6 Cab but again, after a while, I would be bored with the car, no real sound and everything else looks and feels like an ordinary 6 series.
These cars have no emotion to offer, only raw performance and some nice drive feel. This can't be everything.
A friend who drives a BMW 3 series drove a Boxster S for a weekend, kind of my birthday present for him. I couldn't get him out of the car and for the first time he said that he understands why I love Porsche. Completely different emotional level (and unfortunately also different price level).
The last M car I liked was the M3 Coupe with the V8 engine. What a wonderful combination. Also always wanted to get myself a Z3M Roadster but never found one in good shape or at an attractive price tag. Should have bought one when I had the chance.

It's funny guys, the first 6 months of my M3 I hated it. Didn't gel with it, too twitchy, too much torque etc and I hardly used it. Then I used the car more and took a 2 day driving school in M3/M4, and learn how to use the extremely sharp front end to my advantage instead of thinking it's too twitchy. The more I used it around the mountains the more I like the car. I even like the sound now, so much so that I went out and bought a M4 as well so that both my wife and I can have a M3/M4 and got rid of her 5 series. I have now read many reviews where the reviewers love it (like Chris Harris), and others like Steve Suttcliff who hates the twitchy rear end. But after 15 months with one, I can now genuinely say that I love the M3/M4 and BMW M is far from dead! The M3/M4 sure is a car that divides opinion.

I have 3 BMWs right now. I loved BMWs. But I don't think I will have any in a few years after my leases end. But I do love the i3!

$300 a month??? Wtf. It will cost me $2k a month here if I was to lease it with a "buyback" option.

This would be the last BMW I would actually consider...
Over here, the i3 is basically dead, you can see mostly BMW factory cars or some cars registered to local power companies. Same goes to the i8, haven't seen a single customer car yet over here.
Keep in mind that I live in Bavaria, the home of BMW.
The i3 is ugly, the i8 is too expensive. I think BMW would have better chances if the i3 would look like a regular 3 series or 1/2 series model.

I must be turning very American. I get much more positive attention in the i3 than I do in my TTS. People just want to talk to you about it. This is only thing my wife complains about the car. Strangers want to talk about the car in a positive way.

The i3 is a hideous piece of junk and it drives like a toy. Go around the block with it a few times and the novelty wears off. Also, the people who buy them are eco-freaks who aren't your typical buyers of high-end brands, and the sales cycle takes so long that sales people aren't really interested in investing their time in selling them. Tesla is the only company that makes electric vehicles that don't look like they belong in a Pixar film.

New Yorker? The Americans I know are usually driving something bigger, meaner and faster.

Here in Munich (Bavaria, too) I can see several i3 and i8 every day. I don't know all the number plates which are used by BMW, but I don't think that many of the cars are used by BMW or the dealership.
I was told by our BMW dealer that sales are ok. I would have ordered a i3 but a) the lease is much too high and b) I can't charge the car in my private garage and not in the office. But probably I am not the typical Porsche owner, I prefer the bicycle or public transport to go to the office because I do not like driving in the city at all
Gnil:I am starting to see a few i3 here . Mainly they belong to compagnies who put advert on them but I see also some private . My 75 year old mother says she wants one .
My 81 year old mother sat in the Tesla S with me and while we were driving, she asked me if the engine just broke down. She didn't realize it is an electric car and she was so fascinated by that huge display in the middle that she forgot paying attention to other things going on around her, including the missing engine sound.
Not sure an electric car would be right for her but I may get her a new Smart (or another Mini) soon. She drove my wife's X3 from time to time but now, with the Macan Turbo, she is afraid of driving this car (she damaged a X3 rim and a Macan rim would be really expensive). Maybe I should get her a Twizy...?
