Nope, can't squeeze anything off them.

They even reroute the tour to avoid going near the V10 line cause there are some Performante being build already. So all we got was the V12 line.

Hmm yeah, I know. I saw him when we drove in. Before we even get to the showroom he was already looking at the road. he heard us coming in. His unpublished video was basically "wtf that's a 911R!". Thank god he didn't published that section, we were trying to find the proper entrance to Pagani and did a few u-turns around the site. My friend was doing the driving as I was sort of drunk already after having lunch at Ferrari earlier and meeting a coulee new friends during the Ferrari factory tour.

He wasn't expecting to see a 911R turned up, I wasn't expecting to see him there either.

It seems he found his target audience, mostly younger people who probably don't have a driver's license yet or who will never be able to afford such a car. Smiley He (or whoever is managing him) is certainly doing a good marketing job.

Also, it seems the car industry loves him because he never really judges or criticizes the cars he drives, he just reports his emotions and harmless impressions. The car industry loves that, they don't want criticism or negativity. Smiley

Arrived at Stuttgart. The 911R really has surprisingly good fuel economy!

    IMG_2970.JPG
    IMG_2969.JPG

That's on the 3rd tank of gas, with a 1/4 left, which will be enough for us to get around Stuttgart before I return the car to Porsche.

The drive up from Maranello to the Austria border was fantastic, except for the Italian drivers mail

O.M.G! The have mastered the art of line straddling. Hog the fast lane, during right turns they 'move in to hit the apex', basically only the left side wheels are on the outside lane, then after the owner stayed in the middle of the highway unless there are cars on the slow lane. And if they actually willingly let me pass, they would take forever to completely get over to the right lane. Most of the time I actually have to FORED them over by just barging in to their left.

Thye simply don't want to give way to a Porsche , period. But at least the drive fast, unlike the Dutch drivers.

But to be honest, I really enjoy the speed limit optional thing in Italy.

Once at Austria, my buddy and I really feel it's the most miserable place on earth to drive after driving past it twice. Cars passing other cars a 102km/hr, cars passing trucks at 93km/hr, it was so bad, we almost fell asleep on how boring the drive is and had to stop to eat and take a break.

Finally back in Germany, omg, heaven, well mostly. On the unrestricted we were up past 250-260km/hr at times, but the car is not stable at all above 200km/hr, cross wind affects it very much. Maybe it was the winters tires that was only rated to 240km/hr.  But we ended up cursing at 180-200km/hr even during the unrestricted portions. And getting passed by 2.0TDI Jetta! I swear to god, those little things, all drives at 200+

Overall, after 2200km, the 911R is a very enjoyable car to drive, but only at slow to medium speed, and also for someone not looking to be fast. It's for someone looking for the enjoyment of shifting. it also made great sound when we rip it in the tunnels.

It is living up toe the initial hype? Nah, I don't think so. Those journalists are just full of shit. If they are seriously about a driver's 911, get a old 911, be it 911, 930, 964, 993. Those things will provide much more enjoyment than a 911R.

Maybe some will think I am cocky, saying what I say because I have an R. They can think like that all they want, but I did drive the shit out if it. The rear diffuser has been scratched already by bottoming out in those WONDERFUL Italian back roads. The front is also scratched quite bit. This car definitely is not going to be garage queen.

    Nice write up.

So if you had to do the same road again which car of your stable would you take?

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

For comfort, the F12 or the Cayenne Turbo S.

    For sheer enjoyment, 918.

I should be doing almost the same trip in June in the 918. I will be done with a Spyder Circle event somewhere in Italy, I might drive my 918 back to Stuttgart myself for them to store it.

Not cocky Nick but rather more free from bias than most IMO. Since you have several such cars and change them frequently, you are not as tied to a certain car which makes you more bias or have much more post-purchase rationalization, if you don't objectively like it you simply move on to another one without it having big consequences... not even going to mention reporters which simply need to sell reviews/articles and "move" readers with their stories. So I while there is still the subjectiveness of each one's individual preferences and tastes, I would place heavier weight on your criticisms and praises on the 991R than most others I would read, and in the context of your personal tastes and preferences that you have shown in general on cars Smiley

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

The R is a car journalist dream: he can write anything about it and most people will never be able to make its own opinion. The car also appeals to nostalgia with the manual transmission and the seats fabric, and is a unique offering being a GT3 without the wing and limited edition. But at the end of the day, for trips like Nick is doing, PDK would have been more suited, for a daily driver rear seats would have been nice and to be something truely special it should be convertible... One step in the right direction...

    How about the FF?
