    GT3 Sports Chrono pkg Question

There is something confusing here for me.

1)Is Sports Chrono Package (stop-watch thingy) an option for the GT3? Doesn't GT3 have to have all that sharp response and stuff?

2)I talked to my dealer and he said if you order Chono package you have to order PCM2 as well. Is this the same case with the Carrera and CS models?

Re: GT3 Sports Chrono pkg Question

Ron - I have seen several pictures of the new GT3 with the Chrono on the dash. And, the Sport button is rumored to make more power and torque in the midrange for the GT3 (not as much as on the Turbo though). I haven't noticed it as an option on the list either...

Re: GT3 Sports Chrono pkg Question

    Thanks Grant.

After another call to the dealer he told me it's a no cost option but if you want it you have to get PCM2 which is around $1200 or $1300 option. What a smart marketing dept Porsche has.

Re: GT3 Sports Chrono pkg Question

    Here's what I understand for European GT3s:

You can order the Chrono Package without PCM, but then you don't get the Sport Button (which is the only reason to order the Chrono Package in the first place).

Or you can order the Chrono Package with PCM - in this case you get the sports button. But who wants Satnav on a GT3?!

    Irritating...

Re: GT3 Sports Chrono pkg Question

    There are 2 options.

    Chrono Package

(with analogue stopwatch on the dashboard and digital stopwatch on the instrument cluster.)

Does not affect chassis, throttle response or engine characteristics (Torque).

Chrono Package Plus (Only in conjunction with PCM)

(Additional functions compared to Chrono pkg)

    1. Performance display in the PCM
    2. Individual memory

Does not affect chassis, throttle response or engine characteristics (Torque).

    Standard for GT3 (Sport button)

When pressed: Traction control is set to a sporty mode and the torque in the mid-rev range is noticeably increased. (up to 25 Nm between 3000 and 4200 rpm.

    Does not affect damping mode.

    PASM has 2 settings.

Normal for road and uneven track surfaces.
    Sport for smooth track surfaces.

    Suspension is adjustable.

    Anti-roll bars 3 settings
Camber and Toe are also individually adjustable

The suspension system incl. vehicle height can also be equipped with racing springs. (Only adviceable for Racing use "off-road" use)

Re: GT3 Sports Chrono pkg Question

    Thanks CF .

So GT3 gets the Sport button regardless of Sport Chrono or Chrono Plus. Cool.

Re: GT3 Sports Chrono pkg Question

    Correct.

Re: GT3 Sports Chrono pkg Question

CF - Thanks for that info!

Also, do you know if the PASM system on the GT3 is similar to the one on the Carrera, in that it constantly adjusts to driving and road characteristics within a range of positions (different ranges for normal and sport but many settings within each range)?

Or, does it just set itself in either normal or sport mode with defined damping properties that do not change (not a range of settings - only two settings, sport and normal)

Re: GT3 Sports Chrono pkg Question

CF. hank you for the info. what is confusing is that on the uk porsche configurator they mention the sport button as part of the sport chrono plus but not the sport chrono. here is what they have for the chrono and chrono plus

    chrono:
Includes analogue and digital timer system on dashboard.

    chrono plus:
Includes analogue timer system, 'Sport' button in centre console, performance display in PCM terminal and individual memory function for lights, wipers, air conditioning and door-lock settings

Exactly. And the sports button only physically appears in the interioir once you've chosen PCM. So if it's standard, Porsche forgot to include it in the car in the configurator.

Re: GT3 Sports Chrono pkg Question

The stopwatch option for GT3 is called Chrono Package (639) or Chrono Package Plus (640), unlike the Carrera where it is called Sport Chrono Package Plus. I guess that answers the Sport button question

CF is right, the Sport button is standard on the GT3. Then there are two stopwatch options, depending on if you get PCM or not.

It constantly adjusts to driving and road characteristics within two fields of programme definitions.

    Normal and Sport.

Re: GT3 Sports Chrono pkg Question

Please check with your dealer again, but I am told if you don't get the Chrono you don't get the better throttle response and a sharpening of the ABS function. My dealer said it is a must have. I also picked the PCM.

My dealer confirmed that it is a must for every GT3!! better throttle response and a more agressive ABS setting. Plus the lap timer which I don't really like though

Re: GT3 Sports Chrono pkg Question

    Your dealer is wrong!

This is facts, not conjectures or rumours!

Re: GT3 Sports Chrono pkg Question

    CF is right... (as always)

Now CF tell us any more rumor for the GT3 RS plz...
    long time no news...

ok. I will share the info with him again. Many thx

Re: GT3 Sports Chrono pkg Question

CF - You are a star! You are absolutely correct with your statement on the Chrono function. Thank you for being persistent. Once more an example that the dealers can learn from the their customers, who in turn learn from RENNTEAM!!

Now of course I am faced witht he question: Chrono yes or no. Lap timer sounds interesting, miles left in the tank perhaps as well...

    Decisions, decisions... Any suggestions?

Re: GT3 Sports Chrono pkg Question

we cant tell you this... You have to decide which suits you better... you want to have PCM or not?

if this car was mine i would have ordered clubsport version with ceramic brakes and NO PCM in order to understand what I mean...

Re: GT3 Sports Chrono pkg Question

I will get a clubsport but also plan to travel with the car so I am getting the PCM. Just think that the stopwatch is ugly and will I really use it often? Rather drive the Ring without the watch pressuring me. Further, I think that the all these memory gimicks and fuel functions are nice but certainly not a must have.

My current thoughts. Need to decide soon.

Re: GT3 Sports Chrono pkg Question
