Thank you for the warm welcome!
I have been lurking on this forum for some time and yes, I have discovered Whoopsy's secrete hideout place, LOL!
My initial impression of the 918 has exceeded my expectation. It feels much faster than the earlier pre-production prototypes that I have driven. The ride is firm but not too harsh and this car just exudes quality everywhere you look. I will post a more detailed driving impression on the car when I get a chance! I have a 4 post lift system in my garage and I was just impressed the with the level of detail underneath the car. It is truly a work of art!
Another shot at the hinge mounting point on the 918:
Oh, interesting!
Any idea how thick the carbon is at the locations where the bolts are attached? (Can you see/feel/measure?)
Attachments of (metal) parts to a CFRP construction are always difficult, often solved by gluing in metal inserts or the like... would be interesting to see how Porsche solved this.

Porsche uses forged carbon inserts instead of metal inserts. Remember the old Chris Harris video when he said he was doubting Porsche's ability to sell out all 918 cars?

Yes - what a turn around not only for the 918 but one could argue even bigger for the P1
I still wouldn't call the P1 a flop, it is still a fantastic performance car, shows the world how good the McLaren 12C platform can be, in turn it help sells the rest of the sister cars like the 675 and 650 and now the 570/540. The P1 helps McLaren make giant sums of money to further it's product development for the future. I would stay tuned for their next real proper grounds up hypercar, it will be THE car to beat. The P1 is just their GT2RS in the grand scheme of things.

To be clear - I was not calling it a flop - quite the opposite - its sold all 375 easily, and is trading at a significant premium to list.
I never doubt their ability to sell 375 cars, but then again they might not have made it all the way to the original 500 planned.
People are dying for a current generation McLaren hypercar after the legendary F1. Most of the initial buyers weren't in a position to by the original, so the P1 is their chance to get a McLaren that they think will be similar. Initially I had my deposit down for that very reason.
I do not doubt the premium being commanded right now, but if we talk about %, the 918 gained much more. A while ago there was 2 PTS 918 Weissach cars that changed hands at 1.8mil, and I believe that's about the top price one paid for a P1 currently. Earlier still a standard black Weissach car sold for 1.6mil. We owners were just talking about current prices on the 918.

There is something fishy going in the limited hypercar market. Something hard to understand. And the best advice in this case is stay away. I didn't want to buy a 918 because I though it was overpriced at $800k and over produced as they struggled to sell them all. And I still think it is a $600k car at best. Personally if I held a car trading at these crazy prices I would sell instantly and rent one when you want to drive it.
How's this:
The P1 is a British gold-digger that was a normal girl but has silicon boobs, butt inserts, lipo suction on the waist, fake eye lashes, botox skin and lip injections, now she looks like a million bucks.
The 918 is German gold-digger that's half human half machine, perfect body, and it can do everything, including wash the dishes and cooking and cleaning the house.
The LaFerrari is a Italian gold-digger with natural body, but just sits there and looks pretty, she has the whole room lust after her. She will win any beauty contest but that's about it. She doesn't do any work.

That 997 turbo gave it a good try. Not stock obviously but impressive. You pay a lot for that extra two or three tenths. Then again for a few thousand buck you can build car car that will beat it in a straight line and then some. Sub 10 second passes are pretty ordinary for US racers. Just takes a crate motor and an old body and drag slicks.
I welcome any of my European friends to watch top fuel live sometimes. Freakin insane in person.
