Also made it back home, a looong drive unfortunately not entirely without gendarmes... 😁
Great seeing the familiar faces again as well as meeting the new ones such as TRACKAR and Grant. As much as I enjoy driving on track, the evening before was easily as enjoyable, sharing the same passion around a table with good food and drinks.
The driving part was obviously brilliant as well, Dijon-Prenois is a great little track, really flowing, quick and very technical with a lot of elevation changes. The first few hours I spent learning the track with some great guidance from both Eric and Peter. First thing that I noticed that there are several quick lines around the track depending on your driving style. Once into the flow the laptimes started falling and it was clear the RS was at home there, really enjoyed its balance, brakes and suspension there. Indeed weird how the speed on the back straigh almost matched the 991 RS, I assume drag is the culprit as at slower speeds you do notice a big difference in acceleration between both.
I've had the chance to compare the 997RS and the 991RS (very thankful for that!) and it's amazing how different they are, the 991 feels a lot bigger, much more grown up and hugely capable. Front end grip is huge compared to a 997 and it feels very very agile. It is much less demanding on the driver at the speeds I did with it, which is something I would possibly miss compared to the 997, that said I assume when you're really pushing the 991RS it still remains a 911 at heart and will ask questions of its driver. A special mention has to go to the noise it makes inside the cabin, fabulous induction roar even with a helmet on.
I returned a happy man, great weekend!
