I wonder how this will affect the folks at Dension. They told the Porsche world their iPod integration kit (Icelink if I'm not mistaken) would be available several months ago. To this day, they have failed to deliver.

Maybe this is the Dension device and Porsche is OEMing it?

Given that it wasn't until 2006 model year that Porsche added MP3 support ((with no retrofit to earlier models), I'd be highly surprised that they created this on their own...

Thats Funny that is what I was thinking. It would be a little to much of a coinsidence for Porsche and Denison to come out with the device at the same time. Besides I am supprised that Porsche would spend any time and engineering effort on this.

The "official" VW iPod connector is actually a re-branded Dension unit, so I wouldn't be suprised if Porsche followed suit.

Re: iPod Connector Porsche OEM Available APRIL 2006

I'll believe it when I see it...sorry to be skeptical!

Sweet, I can't wait. Post the pics soon once you get it installed

    UPDATE

Thanks to jfraser for this information-

    http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/showthread.php?t=260662

Check out the comments by ltc specifically ... he worked on the design of this OEM adapter. Taking from his comments the adapter is already done and it's only a matter of releasing it/setting a price for it.

Unfortunately he states that "marketing ALWAYS has the final say at PAG" --- sad, but true.

Enjoy guys (and since Jenna is back, gals too)

Re: iPod Connector Porsche OEM Available APRIL 2006

For those of you too lazy to click on the link I've cut and paste his comments below (ltc is the user):

"FWIW, PAG took a different approach to iPod integration compared to others(VAG, BMW, et al). PAG decided to place the iPod adapter directly onto the MOST ring as a discrete device/address/node.......everyone else decided to attach the iPod directly to the headunit. PAG's took a bit longer to integrate/validate with both MOST infotainment platforms (955 vs 9x7).
There will likely be a S/W update to the PCM to add the iPod HMI...the H/W install is fairly straightforward.

(I designed both and sort of prefer the MOST implementation for various reasons)."

"The 'docking' connector on an iPod has many pins/features (revealed by Apple once you sign agreements, agree to licensing fees, royalties on each unit shipped....not a small % BTW); one is a UART connection.
The UART handles command/control/status, so you can pass list information, etc from the iPod, over MOST (22Mb/s is PLENTY for this ) and to the headunit for display via the HMI....all a function on how the PCM's HMI is ultimately configured/designed (how often to pull data over the UART, how much, how fast the iPod can download the info, how much time a human is willing to wait for updates...people typically have 3-4 seconds of 'patience' before they think something is wrong....re: the elevator button experiment in human factors design)

PAG made a decision a while back to 'decouple' the introduction of infotainment devices from new car releases; previously, they would release everything at the same time (e.g. Cayenne with MOST with Centerpoint surround processing).
The only decision left at PAG is when to release the iPod integration as an AfterSales item and on which vehicles first (9x7 or 955). It has been 'shown' on a 997TT to date.....oh yeah, and exactly how much to charge (marketing ALWAYS has the final say on everything at PAG)
It's coming, those who want it will just have to be a bit more patient."

Does anybody know how in the FM screen with stations preset memories

one can see JUST the frequency of each station and not the first letters??

Re: iPod Connector Porsche OEM Available APRIL 2006

Hi, this is my first post but I have been watching this closely. I had my 997s in shop today because of a loose connector for the AC compressor. No cold air. Anyway, I asked both the service manager and the parts dept. guy. No one had a clue....

Re: iPod Connector Porsche OEM Available APRIL 2006

-but it is Hawaii and we tend to run a bit behind here. They said they would look into it, so the skepticisim was not there. Still, I would think someone would have a part # or some more supporting evidence this is true. I'm thinking this is an April fools joke.

Re: iPod Connector Porsche OEM Available APRIL 2006

so basically MY2003-2005 9x6 owners are screwed

    But thanks anyway!

    False rumors? Here on Rennteam?

An iPod solution is coming, it is just a matter of time. Unfortunately we don't have any details about the implementation.

I don't have PCM manual to hand, but I think your problem may be the fact that it only shows station name if station transmits an RDS signal. Do your local stations use RDS?
