    M3 CSL vs CLK63 BS

    Guys and girl, need some advice and insights from hopefully a few AMG owners.

    I'm considering trading in my M3 CSL for a CLK63 Black Series somewhere in the foreseeable future.

    Why, you may wonder? Well...since I got the Kermit 997.1RS, I hardly drive the CSL anymore. Don't get me wrong here...the CSL is such a brilliant feat of engineering, it's so communicative and a true gem once you increase the pace. But next to the Kermit, it's a bit disappointing in normal A to B driving, especially when you haven't got the room to really give it the beans. The seating position is a bit cramped, the SMG is really sluggish and the noise...well the noise only kicks in once you hit it hard.

    Perhaps a BS would suit my situation better as an addition next to the Kermit and the Alpina. A gurgling V8 that will even make you appreciate the sound and the experience at normal cruising speed. The auto isn't the best, the interior is a bit too daft and the seating a little offset, but the looks and the noise...

    I just wonder whether I wouldn't regret my decision. What do you guys think, and what would you do?

    The BS without a doubt, it's in another league performance- and lookwise and it makes more sense in your current stable.

    AMG's naturally aspirated 6.2 litre V8 is one of world's greatest V8s .. used in the SLS among other monster Mercs.

    I'm on the otherside of the fence on this one. The CSL for me hands down. I didn't enjoy the CLK63 BS as much as I do the CSL. The gearbox is a let down yes, but the car is so good and glorious at everything else.

    Not to mention they are appreciating far better in value these days than the BS.

    Agree! CSL is a sports car the CLK a sedan with sporty setup. Completely different layout IMO

    Go for it..I'm also looking to import one to Portugal, but the tax are really high.

    If you dont mind, how much will cost a good one in your country?

    The funny thing is, I agree with all of you! The CSL indeed is a bit more sportier, though one must say that it got 4th place in Ecoty 2007 and it actually drives much better than a lot of people would expect.

    Value appreciation of CSL's is another good argument, though I really don't know where prices are going currently, CSL's have been a bit stagnant lately. Will they ever reach 100K? Maybe for really low mileage ones...I'm at about 86k kms at present, so I guess it should currently bring 50k on a fast sale, perhaps 60k with a bit of effort.

    Pgouveia, I think I could obtain a silver CLK63 BS for about 70K EUR at the moment. They've gone down a bit since I was looking into them last year, another reason I'm not in a hurry. It's not only in Portugal that taxes are high nowadays for a 6.2 V8...

    I think with the Chinese stockmarket more or less crashing momentarily, nobody should be in a hurry. I still don't think that classic car / collector car values are in a bubble, but a small correction might be expected.

    I really think that the 63 BS will have more valorization when compared with CSL...more drama on the looks and on the noise thats what guys like us are looking right now...and like sfo said...the V8 is something spectacular that you cant find in any other car with CLK caracteristics...maybe with the double or triple of the price!

    The 63BS and R8 V10 are on my radar right now

    As an addition to the GT3 RS, the AMG makes more sense in my opinion.

    My view is that you have to be careful in your choice as the BS63 is not a sportscar. It is a muscle car, with a very nice engine...and the best sound...having tonnes of power, but a horrendous traction. I had a BS63 in my garage a few months for a friend leaving the country, and the few trips I made in it made me smile, but thinking back I am not sure it is a car I would like to have myself. I have not driven the CSL, but as I said, I would imagine that the two cars represents two different philosophies.

    What a coincidence, saw a black CLK63 today in traffic. What a car, the road presence is really striking and the sound was pure muscle car. A friend of mine had an M3 (non CSL) and from my perspective the BS seems like a more special car to own on the long run. Besided, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like the CLK63 BS had a much shorter run, production wise, than the CSL, it's kind of a one time deal for Merc, which in time will make it much more special. Not to mention the fact that it might be one of the last 6.2L NA engines to make it into that kind of car. From here on out it's going to be Turbo 6 cyl all around.

    ain't that the truth!

    I'd go for the 63. Something new and I reckon the CLK BS might even keep up with the CSL value-wise over time.

    Would love to have one of those burbling AMG V8s while it's still feasible..

    CLK63 all the way, car is a little less charismatic then CLS, but engine alone is worth the choice.

    Um, wasn't the CSL a rather limited and rare car, whereas the AMG is just a normal model?
