Yes, I did and it was a great decision. I do miss my Turbo from time to time, but just looking at the interior is enough to ensure me that the correct decision was made. I have a deposit for the 997 Turbo at my local dealership and can't wait! I say do it!
i agree with John H. you'll not get better residual value after spending yr time/money/effort converting a 996 to look like a 997. you are better off looking for a pre-owned 997 (or buy the 996 & leave it as is).
I think whatever makes you happy you should do who care what others think. Nevertheless if these are Porsche original parts it must have cost you a bundle. So why not just buy a 997. Afterall the money you have spent on your car will hardly increase the value of your car as the car is and will be still sold as a 996.
I remember a few years back many bought the C2 turbo kit and made their 79+ year 911's looking like a 94 C2 Turbo and some looked damn good.
Again the beauty is in the eye of beholder. A true Porsche enthusiast will look at a car ext and int and will be able to tell right away something is not right. However many will not have a clue what the hell they are looking at. I had a 94 C2 Turbo 3.6 which had a huge Whale Tale in the back. It was a hot car back then. Every time I pulled behind a light next to had old P-car with a whale tale which looked a way to big for a narrow body, my bimbo girlfriend said, honey this looks like your car. I almost wanted to strangle her.
What's wrong with a 996? OK it does look a bit dated now compared to the 997 but I really think that a good 996 with appropriate tweaks isn't really that far from a 997. A 996C2 is lighter and has more or less the same power as a 997 base. Even the C2S isn't much quicker unless you really use the top end. Certainly, although the actual grip from a 997 is better, on the other hand the steering IMHO is less 'alive' . OK, the perceived quality of the interior quality is far superior on a 997 but I do miss the simplicity of the 996 sometimes. And did he change the interior?
But as you say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If I still had my 996 I'd keep it, enjoy it and stash the cash for a used C2S when I could afford it. You have to admire the single minded nerve to chop and change the 996 though.
