Australian GP F1
What a race. Disasterous crashes after disasterous crashes.
First impressions:
Does anyone else concurr that JP Montoya is feeling the heat of his possible exodus from the McLaren team soon? Spinning out in formation laps is not a good way to put on a showing JP
.
Jenson Button falls victim again to the Renault's explosive start. It's really hard to deal with those guys right behind you, because you're probably running light to get ahead of them on pole and they still pass you by the end of the first lap! The only success against the Renault launch is brass balls (JP/Kimi/Taku Sato) or team strategy (F-cars in Sakhir, albeit that only lasted for a few minutes).
What is going on with Rubens Barrichello?
Unfortunate end for the freshman rising of Nico Rosberg, getting clipped early. Also unfortunate ends for GC Fisi (the next Kimi!) Felipe Massa (this guy needs to calm down!)
-------------
Biggest winners:
Most glaringly it is Fernando Alonso who seems to be putting out the message that he and his Renault are the new kings in town
Second would be Ralfy boy. Who says little Schummy is just a product of nepotism?
Strong showing from Heidfield, whose BMW was able to keep pace and GRIP on a slippery track.
-----------
Poor showings:
Bridgetstone: the new season of Bridgestone, which was supposed to be revitalized by the resuscitation of tyre-changes yeilded one top 10 finish (Ralph). They definitely aren't showing up with their grip and ability to come to temperature on 2-3 pit races.
F-cars: mechanical failures again are not really the direction Ferrari wants to take. It would be best for them to snag up some points quick before Renault runs away with it and McLaren tries to have an onslaught of catchup. Worst of all, if Renault drops out of F1 following this season, they will be not have the "midseason stall" in lieu of preperation for the next season. Could be downhill for Scuedria Ferraro.
JP Montoya: Come on JP, you show us flashes of brilliance and courage but never really come through unless its in regards to quelling your teamate or a lame-duck race. See you at Torro Rosso next year!
-------------------
Things to look for at Imola:
Strong showings from BAR, McLaren and Schummy as the high-downforce setup should slow down the blistering Alonso a bit (but probably not enough to keep him from the winners circle).
Bridgestone will hopefully make up some ground with their tyre temp issues. Temperature and percipitation will play a large role. Look for the F-cars to try and make a message?
Until then

Luck or no luck- the man is a heck of a driver! It was still a very entertaining race!
