Care of a Leased car: Am I a fool or what?

I'm currently leasing my first porsche which is a C4s cab in GT silver (love it) for 4 years and picked it up 2 weeks ago...told the dealer not to touch it and detailed it myself, added clear side markers and Das Schild. Mind you, this is a leased car and my wife thinks I'm nuts because it is like a rental and I'm adding things for the next guy/gal. The question is would you add a clear bra or just drive the hell out of it and enjoy...with stone chips and all!

Re: Care of a Leased car: Am I a fool or what?

Take good care of it, I may buy it when your lease is up! Get some pics posted asap, GT silver is the best for accentuating the big hips.

I wouldn't add aftermarket pieces to the car beyond what you've already done, but you might as well pamper the car- you might end up buying it. You should still drive the hell out of it, it's in the contract! ...... they'll allow a few stone chips wear+tear.

Also keep in mind that if the residual at lease end is higher than the market value of the car at that time, it's possible to negotiate your buyout price down a few $thousand with the leasing bank.
In good conscience, I don't think personally that I would be capable of treating a new Porsche any differently on lease than if I owned it. What other options did you order?

Re: Care of a Leased car: Am I a fool or what?

I would take care of it as if it was mine but I would not add options. If you are going to do that then you should think about buying the car.

Lease or financed unless you buy it cash it belongs to the bank. Bottom line you love the car and you make payments on it. My personal opinion I put a bra on my black 996C4S but decided not to put anything on my seal grey 997S. Black needs it but metalic colors are harder and stronger. Anyway treat the car as if it's your baby don't abuse it because it's leased, it still belongs to you for 4 years. Hey we lose our dear ones someday too, should we start not treating them well....LOL Just a joke my friend.

Re: Care of a Leased car: Am I a fool or what?

Good point, leas or finance it belongs to the bank until you make the final payment.

Re: Care of a Leased car: Am I a fool or what?

I was brought up to look after other peoples property. Can't see why that would change with a leased car. It's a question of breeding.

Re: Care of a Leased car: Am I a fool or what?

I would take care of it (as they will inspect it upon return) but don't over do it (ie: don't baby it like some on this board). Consider it a free pass to drive it at will (even dreaded short distances, or in the rain, or while hauling lumbar, etc.) and not hide it in your garage.

Re: Care of a Leased car: Am I a fool or what?

My lease expires in one month, and an inspector came out today to look over the car. He was VERY precise, and had a long check list where he simply checked off damage or no damage, to be sent in to Porsche leasing. My car was in excellent condition, so I did not owe any damage dollars. But bottom line, my inspection was very thorough, and if I had had any damage it would have cost me. Just fyi...

Re: Care of a Leased car: Am I a fool or what?

Thanks for all your input. I've decided to get the clear bra done by Premier this weekend during their Southern CA tour. I've read great things about their service and workmenship...I'll keep you posted.

Where in southern california? Was there a discount? I am in Orange County by the way.

Re: Care of a Leased car: Am I a fool or what?

In one way or the other, we all are borrowing our Porsches and someone else may (hopefully) some day have the pleasure of driving them too. I would treat it well. The clear bra makes total sense. Many of us who buy second hand appreciate cars that have been well taken car of.
