haha Kreso.... I couldn't agree more. . It is just the insane acceleration -  other than that it behaves like a Citroen in 1988...  lol

Nice to know that we have same opinion.

Few months ago AZ compare S85 against Audi RS7 and it was 11s (!!) slower on Contidrom.

The Tesla Model S appeals to the self-righteous individuals who want to show that they care about the planet.  Of course, there are exceptions with some cars actually owned by enthusiasts looking for something different...The car did, however, advance the case for EVs but it is still has a ways to go to equal an ICE, perceived NVH advancements included.

Re: 991.2 and future models Thread Closed

When I drive my 918, nothing/no one will try to challenge me, they leave me alone whatever I do. Only Tesla drivers are the one that tries to get me to race/step on it/whatever reaction I will give them.

    Unbelievable.

that may be so in some parts of the US, but around here in Silicon Valley  it was bought initially by mostly well to do tech execs or VCs who traded in their dweeby Prius hybrids when those cars' special time limited State of California HOV-lane sticker program expired and almost at the same time the all-electric Tesla S and Nissan Leaf qualified for and still do for those coveted bumper stickers that allows its solo drivers here as well as in SoCal to zoom down our clogged freeways in car pool lanes ......so has never been bought much in these parts as a status thing . But in just the past year or so, I am also seeing many, many " soccer moms " trade in their ginormous gas guzzler SUVs for the 7- seat version of the Tesla S which has two rear facing seats for young children in the hatch area , like a MBZ station wagon , and supplementing with downsized cute -utes  for the big box store runs ...the auto market adapts to the consumer's whims and visa versa...been that way since Henry Ford.

Owners also  like the utility of having front and rear trunks as well as being pampered like guests at the Four  Seasons with freebies like updates to the car long after the sale , something no other manufacturer does save for McLaren , but I believe they charge a nominal amt .

I just hope one of those versions is a lightweight RWD motorsport type product with NA Flat-8 that revs to at least 9k rpm, has a manual gearbox option, and hydraulic steering (pump driven by electric motor like all the 911 factory race cars of recent decades).  I would sell the house for that Smiley

I was testing it some while ago.

I thought it drives like an elise but you could feel the weight. Also it was rattling and shaking in every corner. Impressive acceleration, but I was getting the feeling like driving a pimped golf cart. Didn't do it for me.

    Btw, this is 991.2 C4 or C4S.

Re: 991.2 and future models Thread Closed

Talked to some people (engineers for a third party supplier) who recently drove the 991.2. They couldn't go into details about the changes, technical specs and stuff (NDA) but they told me they were very impressed with torque and power delivery. The facelifted car definitely "feels" much faster, which in their opinion will add to the fun of driving the car. I didn't have the feeling that they resented the new facelift.

Same complain though about the sound: Not as good as on the 991.1 from the outside but better than 991 Turbo S in the lower and mid rev range.

Oh well...all we need now are the final specs and some photos without camo.

Btw: If you live in Mallorca, you may want to stay on the lookout for the facelift. It appears that Porsche plans some sort of press presentation, photo session, training or whatever there, my source didn't go into details but you may be able to see the FINAL car there at some point. angry

Every new turbo sports car motor will exceed its predecessor in terms of its measurables , so that is what journalists -esp interweb free lancers - will focus on, minimizing the obvious loss of the traditional NA music ... to do otherwise is to basically tell the manufacturer never to invite them again for free food and lodging at exotic locales  year round ...and at their  meager earnings , they might make  more with the new $15 minimum wage in some US cities  now

Interesting to read all the recent live eyewitness internet commenting  that the new turbocharged McLaren 570S might sound better than the new turbocharged Ferrari 488 when they are run at the same time, like recent Goodwood FOS . Of course , with turbocharged cars , that is not saying much .

Before, with the 458, it was no contest for the NA Ferrari and its tifosi when comparing  these two brands' sound ...what goes around comes around , I guess.

Re: 991.2 and future models Thread Closed

i am confident that Porsche will continue to work on sound improvement for turbo cars, to appeal to drivers who want an exhaust sound like NA engines..

Re: 991.2 and future models Thread Closed

There is pretty accurate info about 991.2 on rennlist.

Official intro date is 01st September.

It seems that 991.2 CS power is 430ps from little bit below 3000ccm.

Re: 991.2 and future models Thread Closed

When would a GT3/GT3RS .2 generally be out?  1 year from September?  Or longer?

Re: 991.2 and future models Thread Closed

Thanks Kreso kissAny information about the 991.2 Turbo models?

saw the info on rennlist as well, looks like the capacity is a little bit below 3.0l because of the tax system in China.

    cheers

Difficult to say. If I had to guess, then 2016 will be a year without GT3 production (so no MY2017). 991.2 GT3 presentation at IAA in september 2017 and 991.2 GT3 RS (if they will build) presentation at Geneva in 2018...

991.2 Turbo 540ps-550ps, as fast or marginally faster then current 991 Turbo S.

    991.2 Turbo S 580ps-600ps (maybe...), only 650S and 488 GTB are faster above180km/h.

My source hinted me that 991.2 Carrera, 991.2 Carrera 4S and 991 Turbo are by fsr the best choices from new range. In his opinion 991.2 Turbo S is only if someone is willing to pay its price tag. For any kind of applicatiom new 991.2 Turbo with some options is more then enough.

Why not the 991.2 Carrera S and save money over the 4S especially where AWD is not needed?

Or will the 4S have some technologies (besides AWD) which won't be available to the RWD?

Re: 991.2 and future models Thread Closed

Because 510Nm of torque is way better with AWD.
You are forgetting that basic 991.2 Carrera will have almost the same torque as 991 GT3 RS.

Re: 991.2 and future models Thread Closed

I was never a fan of AWD and with the NA engines, I did't miss it. Traction in the dry was good enough. In wet conditions or snow I never used one of my Porsches.

With the new high torque engines this changed dramatically. When you want to use the engine power with the new engines in first or second gear AWD is absolutly necessary.
Actually I drive 3L biturbo rear wheel drive with 500Nm. Even in third gear in dry conditions and say 2500rpm full throttle the rear get unstable in the straight. OK traction in the Carrera with it's engine in the back should be better than on a front engine car, but think about what happen in the wet or in second gear turns.

The actual NA 991GTS I would still buy as rear wheel drive, but a 991.2 S or GTS NO. I can tell you I hate the additional weight and price tag for the AWD, but it's unavoidable, you will need it.

Dont forget, all Turbos (beside the GT2s) since the 993 had the AWD....

Re: 991.2 and future models Thread Closed

I doubt you will need it as much as you think. The giant steam rollers in the back will not let go that easily.

    Cheers
