Why not just boost 4.0 to the moon for 960?

Porsche is famous for big performance out of 6cyl 'only'

I would still not buy a 6-cyl. 960. Smiley Even if it had 700 hp.

Why do you think the new R8 has still a V10 and the Huracan isn't a 6-cyl. either?

Porsche just cannot put a 6-cyl. 960 on the market, this would be suicide in my opinion.

Look what happened to the Panamera 4/S and Cayenne GTS facelifts. Smiley

More to the reason why they should not offer the 960 period...

Re: 991.2 and future models Thread Closed

I still say tack two more cylinders onto the Turbo engine and you've got something over 4.5 litres and north of 700hp. People would go for a flat eight in a way they wouldn't go for a V6 or even a hot 911 engine.

I would like to see a 960 as well, with all performance goodies they can implement, flat 8 - NA and Turbo, RWD and AWD models. The pinnacle of what Porsche can build, the best sportscar.

Re: 991.2 and future models Thread Closed

Cool, seems like the bixster will also get the macan rear lights and the spoiler will follow the top ridge of the lights?
Also nice to see the 4 dot front lights and the turbo-style drls... all in all a nice uodate I think.

Nice color and nice wheels, but no GTS I think.

Re: 991.2 and future models Thread Closed

Occasionally I have noticed that the .2 mules, now with apparently less camouflage have the front turn signal assembly "stickers" transposed (the right sticker is over the left signal, and the left sticker is over the right signal.  Any ideas why they are doing this?  Is the .1 style sticker obstructing the active aero component for the front radiators?

It looks more than just a little conspicuous.  I guess they didn't want to go to the trouble of creating a new sticker this late in the game?

Yep, judging by the lack of the side skirts, this is clearly a Carrera S with the new Sport Design Wheels??

If the new boxster/cayman is getting a 2 liter flat four, and the 991.2 gets a 3 liter flat six, then a 4 liter flat eight for the 960 seems like a logical progression.

Mezger will not be used in the near future. 2017 brings new GTE rules. Expect to see non-mezger turbo RSR relatively soon.

According to a couple of Weissach engineers I talked to during various occasions, the "Mezger" engine (they actually didn't know it by this name but the technical designation) is outdated and not as reliable as many may think.

Mezger schmezger... This engine has turned into an Internet legend far from it's actual merits and shortfalls.

    That is the true.

It is an "internet legend" when you don't own one, and a collector's item when you do.  Smiley

I don't like them, IMO one of these things in the light cluster of the current Cayman/Boxster is the fact that the rear spoiler is integrated in the design of the light and the way that helps the overall shape of the rear come together from metal to glass to light. Not building on that material interaction seems like a step back in my opinion.

On the "GTS" spy pics for the first time I like the black rear grill, apparently in combination with the glass pano roof and a body color that contrasts with black it could look really good. I'd even suggest putting black vinyl over the bit of body between where the glass ends and the grill begins to give the impression of a larger swooping roof line. Maybe the photoshop geniuses could give it a go to see how it would look.

Funny you say that, that was one of the design elements I never got around to like about the 981. I'm glad that they are taking a step back from this Smiley

Not feeling it ..one of the iconic features of the 911 from day 1 and the main visual attribute to indicate it is rear engined is  its rectangular engine vent whether chrome, later black or recent years body colored ...this loses  that ...makes it look like a front engined car to the uninitiated and mimics the look of new front engined Jaguar F-type Coupe and MBZ AMG GT-S , ( off topic, but look at those ungainly 1980s style bumper guards on the AMG GT-S ...what is up with that , on a newly developed model ,.....in 2015 ?? )

I'm really not a fan of glass roofs on 911's. They ruin the coherence of the car's design IMO.

Not to mention extra weight up high where you would rather not have it, and my main complaint: the sunscreen does not  fully block overhead sun, leaving it as a distracting flicker on roads where the sun appears / disappears through trees etc.   But... the market appears to love these things in all vehicles including huge glass roofs in SUVs.  Rant over!

The taillights are camouflaged but yes, they will be smaller than the current ones (which I hate).

I assume that that's a car specced for the USA market. Porsche used to have to add similar bumpers to the rear ends of 911s to enable compliance with a test (referred to as the "pole test?"Smiley) imposed by the US car insurance industry.

991s have no such bumps, you would expect the AMG GT (newer than 991) to have addressed this issue

Saw an AMG GT in the flesh. Front looks like ANY recent Merc, no originality. Rear looks just weird and not very attractive. Interior looks nice but not a big cabin for such a large car. Overall not impressed...

The AMG GT is very color sensitive, keep that in mind. I agree though, the front is a bit too "massive" (with those big headlights) and the rear is too much 911, in a weirdly disturbing way. Still, it is a very good looking car if you choose the right color (bright colors are not right for this car!), like black or grey met.
