Everyone will be happy when he finds the first twisty road. As one suspension engineer from Porsche told me, you want believe where the limit of this car is. We have to forget all what we have seen when driving a GT3. The RS is  so far from the GT3 that it is unbelievable.

There are still a lot of GT3 owners who refuse to believe that. They didn't see that much of a difference on paper.

Nick the simple answer is because of our limited talent as drivers very few would be able to extract the difference in the two cars. I am an average driver and I doubt I can driver the RS much faster than my GT3. Smiley

However, none of the GT3 owners believe for a second that the RS isn't a better car.Smiley

You are right. The border area or limit of the GT3 RS is much greater, so for us normal drivers we get the possibility to drive nearly like a professional would do in a GTS or so. Because we don´t have to go to the limit. At the limit all the cars a hard to drive.

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

The extra limit on the RS is more like a bigger safety net. We amateurs all make mistakes, over cooking corners are common, and the higher limit of the RD means for a given corner that we botched, the difference could means sliding off the track and crash or safely completed the corner.

Dario, while you don't have the car yet, I can give you the break in ritual for you to memorize first haha.

under 5k revs for the 1st 500km. Then add 500 revs for each 100km. But stay under 7k revs until after 1500km.

this is straight from someone that matters within the GT3RS program. :)

    This sounds quite OK. Smiley

Also important: Do not use launch control until you hit 2000 km (actually 3000 km).

Very important as well: Change gears and rev figures often (use manual), do not drive with a constant speed 500 or 1000 km, just to get over with the run-in fast.

Most important: Always wait until oil temperature gets over 80°C before you rev it higher than 4000 rpm!

It's there in the owners manual, with Porsche I'd follow the procedure say up to 1,800 ~ 2,000 km. With Ferrari it's 1,000 km.

I like to get stuck in traffic during the first 700 km and then take her on the highway speed ranges between 90 ~ 120 km/h in Automatic mode, with manual mode, the rpm goes up high as if the engine comes to life and you don't want to try that while following the break-in procedure. Probably because of the close gear ratios Smiley Smiley

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

I think you all are getting too anal about break in. Though I agree you should not rev to high RPM's while the engine is cold (FWIW, in the GT3 there is a blue light that extinguishes when the engine is warm) beyond that enjoy the car. Those that wait for a certain miles before engaging the car are wasting their time. It will not make difference concerning the reliability of the car.

No one can point to any evidence that states otherwise.

Give Weissach a call... Smiley Smiley

This isn't about reliability only but about how well the car will run after 5000-10000 km (performance).

The GT3 RS engine is, according to various sources, very "sensitive" to break-in, similar to the GT3 engine.

So if you want to have maximum reliability combined with maximum performance, you are careful about the break-in period. If this is a lease and you couldn't care less, well... Smiley Smiley

So, would you think the GT4 (991S) motor is much less sensitive to this?

Oh please! Smiley Unless this is in the manual of the car it is complete rubbish. Do people seriously think that we have to resort to secret running-in methods which Weissach "sources" slipped out but never bothered to put in the manual?

Hey RS guys, don't forget to rub the engine in mayonnaise the first 500km... and always drive with you lucky garden gnome in the passenger seat... and whatever you do, never ever use PDK-S reverse gear the first 2000km... Smiley

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

Break in procedure for modern cars is BS. And it includes the RS. I've floored the pedals of all my brand new cars since my 599, as long as the engine is warm, and I've never had any problems. I'd even dare to say all my cars perform better than other similar. That's because they see the red line very often and don't do a lot of heavy traffic.

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

I wouldn't push my luck with brand new tires for the first 400 ~ 500 km angry

I have had several Porsche  and Ferrari owners who say the same thing. Their cars performed better because they refuse to baby their cars. The only concern should be to be sure the engine is warm. My GT3 tells me when it is warm.

Break in procedure in the manuals might be also there to prevent the new user of the car to go crazy...
