Your feedback : Nearly new GT3 with exchanged motor : Will you do it or not ?

    Dear all,

I have a serious dilemma right now : I have sold 1 year ago my 997 GT3 MkII, and I miss a decent car so much that I want a 991 now.

I live in France and I have promised myself I will not buy a new car because of this ridiculous ecotax (you have to pay 8000 euro + registration = 10 000 euro). This is more a question of honor, as I will not pay for the 4000 euro  Government is giving to 918 Spyder owner (yes, they receive 4000 euro because this is a "clean car"....).

So here is the dilemma  :

-> I have found a 3000 km GT3 fully loaded (sport bucket, red  stiching,PCM,Lift system, sport chrono, black painted wheels, tempomat, red belts  etc...) with a decent price (around 139keuro)

The ecotax is already paid, so there is 8000 euro less as well and my honor saved Smiley.

I raise a serious question and will vallue your opinion a lot (especially our beloved RC Smiley)  :

Do you think this car will not have an issue for re-sale , and will you buy it ?

I'm open for all feedbacks and will make my decision following your wise commentsl !!!

    Thanks in advance !!!!

    Thierry

Re: Your feedback : Nearly new GT3 with exchanged motor : Will you do it or not ?

If anything the 2014 will be in demand more than the 2015 model.

The car has an additional one year warranty. With the new engine Porsche upgraded software which will be in the 2015 model. Rumor is Porsche will stop production of the GT3 in February 2015 to produce the RS. There will be very few 991GT3's. Resale value should not be an issue.

Re: Your feedback : Nearly new GT3 with exchanged motor : Will you do it or not ?

jumping from one GT3 to another one isn't ideal....  surely 991 had a lot more improvments, but it did had some serious issues which Porsche had fixed....  Don't know the reasons behind you selling 997.2GT3, but I wouldn't want to experience the same or sligtly better experience of 991GT3.  I would  rather wait for GT3RS which will soon to be published and then decide if GT3RS is worthwhile for the totally new experience and worthwhile for the ECOtax.  afterall, these are EURO130K cars....  just got to make sure if you will have a feeling of missing out on NEW RS expereince...

Re: Your feedback : Nearly new GT3 with exchanged motor : Will you do it or not ?

The 991GT3 is the best car I have driven period. And I have driven many top notch cars. The beauty of the GT3 is it is a street legal race car and behaves as such and at the same time a very compatible daily driving car. When you consider it price nothing comes close.

Re: Your feedback : Nearly new GT3 with exchanged motor : Will you do it or not ?

Nick, have you finally got your 991 GT3?

Re: Your feedback : Nearly new GT3 with exchanged motor : Will you do it or not ?

I picked it up yesterday. It is an astonishing car. I was looking for an edgy car that had performance to back it up. The GT3 is just that car.

I have not been able to exceed 7KRPM's (I am trying to be good in breaking it insmiley) but from what I have experienced it is a very special car. I have taken curves and turns easily 10 mph faster than my previous cars and I was't even trying hard to go faster. I know I could be much more faster. The steering is precise and responsive. The car is beautifully balanced and you don't get a lot of roll.

But as important the car is easy to drive and very comfortable. I thought I would in for a jarring experience and it is just not the case. The exhaust sound is perfect and very reminiscent of a race car. It is the best Porsche I have driven and that includes the CGT.

The car deserves all the positive press it has received. It is quite an achievement.

Re: Your feedback : Nearly new GT3 with exchanged motor : Will you do it or not ?

Nick , congratulations. After all this wait you must be thrilled. Happy for you that you are fully satisfaid with it !!! It might a least erase all the troubles you got through in the past month.

Re: Your feedback : Nearly new GT3 with exchanged motor : Will you do it or not ?

I did not post any because there have been at least 25 posted white 991GT3's. indecision I didn't want to waste bandwidth.

Seriously I was not all fired up to take the car. I figured I would drive it for about six months and sell and not loss any money since Porsche is sending me a check for about $9000. But now that I have driven it, It will stay in my garage much longer. It is that good. A revelation.

Don't worry about the bandwidth; you have been one of the GT3 stalwarts since the early days and deserve the pic space!  And I join the others in congratulating you on, mostly, your patience, as you waited through the anguish of the engine problems and their solution, and the resulting long delivery time.  After all this you deserve to just enjoy driving it!   Smiley (But in deference to Thierry and his decision... on a separate thread would be good!)

Was just gonna ask you about your GT3.

What are you gonna buy had you decide to sell it after a few months? Nothing is really better in that price range or even above it.

You should try to hear the sound of the car passing by from outside the car. I did a road tour not too long ago and within the convoy was a GT3, he wasn't too keen on staying behind me so I got a full blast of that engine in full throttle with the windows opened. What a sound.

Nick, I have a deposit on the 960. But was thinking about picking up a used 458. But this car for the money cannot be touched by anything out there.

What a compliment for Porsche coming from a Ferrari man.

Guy's thanks! My problem with the car is the likelihood of getting arrested. Driving It one cannot stop himself/herself from cutting it loose. Is a racing car, wants to be raced and does not behave if it is not raced.smiley

Re: Your feedback : Nearly new GT3 with exchanged motor : Will you do it or not ?

Has anyone had a flat away from big city dealer land yet?  I'd like to know if these centre locks  are as much hassle as the 2011 version on my turbo s?  Can anyone report on this?

I just suffered a blown tyre on the RS in the Northland of New Zealand, and we shipped up the tyres and the Whangerai [only city an a hour away from us [ of 40,000 people]] tyre shop put them on, but I wouldn't have wanted them dealing with centre locks, nearest dealer 4 hours away.......

    thanks

Watt, they are supposed to be improved but they remain a problem. This is where Porsche tow service pays dividends. It is free for the warranty period.

Nick, it means the car is a wonderful city/track toy  -  i wish one could order lugs.  I really dont want to buy and carry all the tools like i did in my turbo s, but i would have to, and shipping tyres in is fine. Porsche agreed to tow me in WY or MT to the salt lake dealer which is 400 miles, but then the trip is ruined.

I will stick with lugged cars both here and in NZ, where my dealer tow again could be 400+ miles.  One things for sure -  if you are fully tooled up and prepared, you wont have a flat, and if you aren't prepared you will have one at the worst time - like on the dirt 40 miles in in WY and 450 miles to the dealer with no cell service and no traffic but bears and elk.SmileySmiley
