    Cayman GTS

Our GTS just arrived at our dealer yesterday so I'll called by today to look it over and take some photo's. The sound this car makes is pretty outrageous with the PSE switched on. I'm really pleased with how the spec turned out and am glad we went for Carmine red even though Porsche shamelessly charge a silly amount of money for it. It has the X73 option but still has the transit blocks on the front suspension so is sitting too high as a result.

Congratulations, great looking car. I'm test driving the Boxster GTS in a few weeks time, I need to decide whether or not to order the PTV - just about the only decision I have to make if I go for one, other than whether to have white or rhodium silver. Smiley

    Re: Cayman GTS

lovely car Iain, but why didn't you order the chrono clock in red Smiley

    Re: Cayman GTS

I forgot that I removed the PTV from the final spec after much deliberation and a conversation with the dealer who felt it's not required. I didn't like the red sport chrono dial as it stands out too much IMHO. Only the tach in the GTS is Carmine red which is similar to how Ferrari handle their dials so that your attention is focused on that as the most important dial

    Re: Cayman GTS

    Gorgeous car!!!

    Re: Cayman GTS

Is it just the photo or does Carmine Red really close to the Ferrari Rosso Corsa?

    Re: Cayman GTS

Carmine is very close to Rosso Corsa and also to BMW's Imola red. You can see the difference between it and the calipers which are guards red I believe. We spec'ed the platinum option wheels along with the Carmine red and the GTS interior package to make it look a bit reminiscent of the 458 Italia's I had which Steph loved.

I haven't been to the Porsche Driving Experience centre at Silverstone for a while but was told that the Boxster and Cayman GTS demo cars they have there are easily the loudest cars there and can be heard above everything else running on the circuit. I was astonished at how loud it was just moving around inside the dealers valeting building with the PSE switched on and shuffling backwards and forwards at low revs to clear a ramp and be driven out the door Smiley

That confirms it. Haha. At first glance on your photos the GTS looks suspiciously like a Ferrari.

I was at the Silverstone experience centre yesterday for a general drive of all models and can confirm the GTS Boxsters they run on the kick-plate and ice hill sounded awesome and were great fun. OT - couldn't help but be underwhelmed by the Macan Turbo but I now need to plan a way into a Cayenne!!!

    Re: Cayman GTS

I cannot understand the dealer recommendtion to remove PTV in a cayman with such a sportie configuration.

With X73 and sport bucket seats PTV (LSD) is a must have. Especialiy in GB where is a lot of rain and slippery roads.

The LSD included in the PTV option is a must have for a sportscar and one of the option with a porsche untypical very good price/value.

    Re: Cayman GTS

I was at my dealer yesterday and may say that the GTS-interior looks absolutely stunning - ok, I am a fan of all the alcantara stuff they put into the GTS. The GTS is all black (body, wheels etc.), so the red stitching blends very well into the whole color scheme. I had a loaner Cayman S with PDK and have to admit that the whole driving experience is different to my "old" 997, in SPORT already hells breaks loose with 2 gear down-shifting and I felt like I am in a much faster car. So, a GTS with PDK and I may have found myself a new dream car...Smiley

    Re: Cayman GTS

My dealer said to this topic (PTV), that most clients do not envisage to drive the car on a track anyway and therefore, most dealers may be reluctant to even order PTV for their showroom cars as this extra is not that much "appreciated"... still, PTV would be my choice as well ...

    Re: Cayman GTS

Never having been a fan of alcantara steering wheels, I like your choice. kiss

    Re: Cayman GTS

I did go back and forth on PTV but read some reviews of it - both positive and negative - and decided I needed to draw a line somewhere on the cost of the car. As it won't get tracked it won't be missed. The dealer was confident it wouldn't affect resale either. I'd likely have spec'ed it had it been my daily driver indecision

I'm always sceptical about salesmens' knowledge, or lack of, ever since we received inappropriate advice on the spec for our Cayman S several years ago which ended up costing me a lot of money, so I phoned the Porsche Experience Centre this morning to ask about PTV and spoke to one of the instructors there, and he said that for normal road use PTV is not essential, but for fast cornering particularly on slippery roads it is very good by minimising understeer and in those circumstances you'd definitely feel the benefit. In summary it's the icing on the cake - worth having if you can justify the cost and not buying on a tight budget. If I end up ordering a Boxster GTS I think I will include it even though I can't throw unlimited ££ at it - maybe save some money elsewehere by choosing white rather than a metallic colour.

Good to see alcantara A pillars and roof lining as standard on a Cayman GTS

I quite like white to be honest - it is on my short list of choices anyway, - of the metallics rhodium silver would be my choice - couldn't possibly have yet another blue car and sapphire to my eyes is a bit iffeminate.

    Re: Cayman GTS

I would get PTV definitely. It is only £900 extra on a £55.000 car. No need to compromise.

On tight bends you would appreciate the LSD even on dry tarmac. IMO LSD is a must on any sports car.

My car is equiped with LSD (option 220) and I've noticed great cornering improvement compared to my friend's 997.1. Handling is much more fluid.

Large scope of cars at Silverstone right now - many Boxster GTS configs from Yellow to Carmine Red. Can't you get your OPC to send you there?

I agree. Unless you are intent on driving in the style of Chris Harris in some of his online videos or are fortunate enough to live somewhere sparsely populated with very quiet driving roads then IMHO you'll only miss the extra traction offered by PTV on a handful of occasions. With so many cyclists, horse riders etc in the UK now it's simply not safe on many country roads to get anywhere near the sort of speed you'd need that extra level of grip as you really don't know what could be around the next corner. It's a different story if you intend to do a lot of track days. I never found I was short of either power or grip in the 981 2.7 Boxster I had for a year on smaller A and B back roads so I very much doubt I'll find an issue with not having PTV on a 981 GTS Smiley

Colour on the other hand is something you have to live with daily and then sell on at some point. Solid white has been done to death here so I'd steer well clear as there are simply too many used examples on the market.

    Re: Cayman GTS

Since they sell PVT on the Macan I don't know how track oriented it is...
