glad you noticed that. i had the same observation but then thought it was my imagination.... now you confirmed it.
it looked much better when the front lip was coloured as well.
however on the 996 turbo it was always black plastic too. looks really cheap, especially with a few scratches.
they should do this part in carbon or aluminium mesh and it would look so much better.
also the side vents on the rear fenders and next to exhaust should be covered with mesh. like the sl55.

On my former 996TT i painted the sideskirt and put on the front lip of the aerokit...the car looks lower and more complete..
the problems are the little stones...in a few days of winter driving those scratch the paint..
so..with the lower part painted the car looks sure better but..more delicate...

Personally, i think black lip looks better, it gives is an original touch. plus, i've seen 996tt with painted lip always get chipped because it's always exposed to rocks and touching bombs on the street, also don't forget that it's made of flexible plastic, and flexibility will damage the paint. maybe it needs to be lowered , it will look better.

Having dark lower side cladding is used by designers to lengthen the car visually - everyone does it, even Ferrari . Makes the car look like it's moving forward like an arrow even when standing still . Of course, on boards, the opposite is desired- to make the car look low , wide and squat down like a turtle.

Painted side and front lip on my arctic silver 996tt and imo it looks so much better than the ugly plastic lip. However with the X73 suspension one has to be really careful since even touching the front lip to sth will break the paint (elastic). I am about to spray the lip for 3rd time in 2 yrs but its worth it in my opinion.

Some of the OCD types here won't tolerate even a microscratch on their cars , so a painted front lip would be a no go. I like the black plastic lip. Everytime I "scritch" it on a steep driveway , I sand off the whiskers with 600 grit paper , apply a little " bumper black " stuff , and it looks new .
