All numbers achieved by test mules are indeed amazing. I am sure that AMG GT will be bessportscar in its class in few categories like drive dynamics, steering feel and precision, driver confidence boost for spirited driving and traction(for rwd sportscar).

Which class is this? Which cars do you see as the main competitors?

Class which includes Jaguar F-type R, Corvette C7, forthcoming new R8 and various 991 versions.

For example AMG GT-S with 510ps and full options will be cheaper then your 991C4S Coupe with full options.

But, AMG is well aware that 911 buyers are probably most loyal costumers and they do not expect new costumers from Porsche wagon. Rather, they expect new costumers that want something little bit different...

Well the 911 is almost unique in this class because of the rear seats... Only the GranTurismo has them.

Yes, but it does not have AWD nor rear seats. So for me it is no alternative to the C4S, even if it is cheaper and faster. A GT3 is also cheaper and faster than my C4S Smiley

Did you know that AMG GT is using latest Getrag source 7 speed DCT? No?

This gearbox do not have anything in common with automatic gearboxes used in normal Mercedes cars.

I dont know that officially but as I see plenty of AMG GTs in our city and Getrag R&D is based in our city I would assume that!

S version does 0-100 kph in 3.85 seconds, top speed is 310 kph. Not sure if this has been posted before.

0-200 kph is rumored to be between 11 and 12 seconds, so the new GT, incl. the S version, is no 991 Turbo or Turbo S competitor. Depending on the price tag, it could put some pressure on the Carrera though.

Harris: "its as wide as an SLS but a good bit shorter..." - that is still incredibly wide; whenever I see an SLS its like some kind of bulldozer, and I have no idea how people get on with these widths driving on narrower European roads. (who knows, maybe the new 991 turbo is just as wide). But I wonder if it needed to be that wide for dynamic reasons, style reasons, or even the limitations of the adapted SLS chassis??

AMG GT will be around 1939mm wide. Jaguar F-type is as wide as is 650S, Huracan, 458 and forthcoming R8. 991 Turbo is with 1880mm narrower but still as wide as new M4...

Wider tends to be better for performance, to an extent, but it also just looks better with sports/exotic cars.

AMG GT needs to be more powerful than just 510 ps to compete well. They need to introduce high-end version with 600 hp....

Turbo S with its 560 hp is not enough nowadays... Ferrari is going to make facelift of 458 Italy and there will be TT engine with 670 ps! The competion is going on.

Let me give you some idea how will be AMG GT positioned price wise.

Class of 100K-135K €: Jaguar F-type R, Porsche Carrera S/Carrera 4S, AMG GT/GT-S

Class of 160K-185K €: Porsche 991 Turbo, Audi R8 (new, forthcoming model)

Class of 195K-210K €: Porsche 991 Turbo S, Lamborghini Huracan, Ferrari 458 Italia

Class of 230K-240K €: Ferrari 458 Speciale, McLaren 650S

All prices are German base prices with Mwst.

Btw, Ferrari 458M will be priced above current 458 Speciale.

I am not worried at all about AMG GT-S performances. They will be excellent, amoing the best in its class.

It may sell better than they think. Looks like a easy car to live with and has no 911 like "social baggage." Its fresh with no stigmatizing cliches about its owners. And that can effect sales. Not every customer goes OCD on technical feature matching minutae, many just want a expensive car that looks good and drives well. Mix that with Porsches ever escalating prices and demanding extra money for equipment that should be standard on a car that looks old and MB can't lose with this car.

I agree - the GT doesn't have to compete with cars like F458 that costs twice as much. When they announce the Black Series with a much higher price, then they'll need to worry about competing with the heavy hitters.

AM just upgraded all their gearboxes a few days ago, or so I read.

Thanks to this new transmission, the 2015 Vanquish its 96 km/h (60 mph) in a mere 3.6 seconds. That is an impressive 0.5 of a second faster than the current car and makes the updated Vanquish the quickest accelerating series production Aston Martin ever. Additionally, the new transmission and the revised final drive means the Aston Martin Vanquish can exceed 320 km/h (200 mph) for the very first time. Additionally, CO2 emissions have dropped by 10 per cent thanks to the advanced eight-speed ‘box.
