What kind of maket is Porsche targeting?

Is this the kind of image that goes with Porsche?

I am very confused as to who they are targeting in their marketing with that kind of unmanly, delicate and effeminate advertising?

Once again I must side with Porsche regarding the ad. They are catering to people with money, maturity and appreciate timeless progressive quality.

Those of you stuck on the performance and performance numbers are in the minority. If none of you bought the 997TT it still would be a successful seller. Why? Because of the perception of Porsche engineering, quality and performance. Most who buy the Turbo have no interest in racing it or testing its limits.

Driving around with a Porsche marque and Turbo written on the back says it all.

I could have not said it any better. What is the upmost in importance to most Porsche people is perception. And therein lays the difference between the Porsche people and the rest of us! (Mercedes and Bimmer folks also, but not to the extreme as Porsche people) As the formula goes: P=perception to Porschephiles, and P=performance to most of the rest of us.

LOL... it had the feel of a feminine hygiene commercial.

LOL...I just watched it. If there was ever an ad to fit a car, THAT ad is Porsche. If BS were bricks, the People at Porsche would be the pentagon.

Re: What kind of maket is Porsche targeting?

I can't say that I like the add, but I do like the car. I think they are trying to advertise to young sofisticates. Also, I don't think it was ever meant to be compared to an exotic Italian car. If it were my cash, I personally would want something that would last more than 15k miles and cost $15k per year to maintain. I hope whatever Porsche decides to do down the road, that they continue to build sports cars and stay away from the SUV/Crossover market. I hate those things...

    Thank you!!!

    Brand

The bean counters have taken over. When they worry more about brand than the actual product... the long slide toward mediocrity has begun. Someone needs to tell the engineers to wake up and do something interesting soon. One-offs like the CGT aren't enamouring the performance crowd vs. Ferrari. If Ferrari decide to make a higher volume car Porsche will eat dirt. IMHO.

    Re: Brand

Well, that may not be so easy. Porsches in general compare pretty well with F-cars at the current price differential, it is not easy to compete in Porsche's market space.

    Re: Brand

kfractal I really agree with you. Hopefully things will change.

    Re: Brand

Porsche cars are just fine the way they are!!! No need for change at all!!! Simply reduce their price to compete in the appropriate market segment.

Take this as you wish, but a 911 should be the same price as an M3/standard Corvette, with options being realistically priced. I think it's ridiculous that you can option an $80k car past the $100k mark. The boxster should also be about $15-20k less than it is today. Also, bring the Turbo/GT3 down to just above Z06/Viper price levels $85k. Not sure what to do with the overpriced GT2, but I would consider by cutting the cost 40% as a start.

But...Porsche will never do this! They know that with their current customer base, they can charge whatever they please (similiar to Ferrari, but in a more conservative way), regardless of performance, and have sucessfully done so with pure image.

At this point, to maintain their current pricing strategy, I beleive Porsche will turn their cars into more luxo-touring cars than real sports cars (like they were in previous years)...if this hasn't already happened.

While companies like Porsche will rest on it's laurels and marginally improve...cars like Lotus, Corvette, Noble and the vast number of Asian imports will continually re-invent their designs, and take BOLD steps to improve their cars every year, not every 10.

In my opinion, I think you'll see manufacturers not trying to compete directly with a Ferrari Enzo/CGT, but rather to try and match it's performance for 1/10th the price... Hence, what the Lotus does to most cars in the sub $70k market, and what the Z06 does to cars in the sub $200k market.

But on the other hand, you don't buy a Bently because of new radical/economical design, so there will always be Porsche fans, just less and less of them every year.

    Re: Brand

    Reduce the price!!

    At todays' exchange rate in UK we pay the equivalent for the base car (no extras) of;
    $56500 Boxster
    $102,200 Carrera (Not S)
    $169,000 Turbo

Plus extras. I can't see that youguys in the US are doing badly at all compared to Europe....

Re: What kind of maket is Porsche targeting?

As ads go, the Porsche spot is a bit soft, but compare it to one of those ridiculous Cadillac ads with Led Zeppelin in the background. Now that's obnoxious, cliche-ridden advertising at its worst (though I freely admit to owning a few Zep cds). If Porsche had ads like that, people would say, "See, it is a car for the mid-life crisis!" If you looking for truth in any advertising, Penn and Teller would probably like to have you as guest.
