    Sport suspension -20mm ??

Guys, I thought I'd made my mind up on this one (to go for the standard pasm) but I have just read another report from a local mag and it really rates the sports -20mm set up with LSD.

True it was on a lap of a circuit, but the last thing I want is to regret not getting a car that suits my driving style, which will be mainly fast weekend pursuits and some track work, as well as some commuting.

A few have said that it maybe hard to sell come re-sale time and I'd be better with the normal pasm set up ?

Has anyone tried both ? I have tried to find a dealer with both models in stock, to try myself, but no chance !

By the way its on a new 997S

    Any help appreciated.

    Re: Sport suspension -20mm ??

The -20mm with LSD is a far better choice if you drive the car hard. Don't worry about resale value. There will be some knowledgable buyers in the used market who will know your car is superior

    Re: Sport suspension -20mm ??

it's a true 911 experience ........I can live with less electronics and the ride height look is perfect .......mine's an everyday driver and have no real issues .......after all it's a sports car, not a luxury GT

    Re: Sport suspension -20mm ??

I agree with what is said above. I would have never fogiven myself if I hadn't spec the -20mm. I have tried both, if you are worried about the ride quiality, try a PASM and set it on Sport mode, the -20mm is similar o maybe a touch more confortable.

Yes I read your report Carlos, thanks !

The ride quality really doesn't worry me, its the re-sale time and how/if it would affect the sale price.

What is it like at speed say 120mph+ ?
Heard that it gets a bit shaky over poor roads and bumps when the speed increases?

I haven't driven the PASM-equipped model but the stability on motorways is very good - very communicative and providing a very competent feeling. You know - and feel - that you drive a car with very sporty suspension. On the other hand it feels just great - I heard some people critizise the Carrera's high-speed stability but I cannot fault it. Definately, cars with longer wheelbase (e.g. Boxster/Cayman just as much as luxury cars) might provide a bit more straight-line stability but I felt at no point of time uncomfortable!

    Re: Sport suspension -20mm ??

Wish we could get that here. I don't know why it's not an option, even if it's just the LSD, which IMO, should be standard on a car like this. Anyway, I say go for it!

    Re: Sport suspension -20mm ??

For what you describe, the -20 mm suspension sounds perfect. I wouldn't worry about resale too much - your car will have low kilometrage given your decribed use for it, and that will help keep resale up. Plus, as has already been mentioned, there will undoubtedly be some enthusiasts looking for good used -20 mm car.

I had decided to hold out for the -20 mm suspension arriving in NA, as I assumed it (or a version of it) would come as standard on the GT3, paving the way for it to come to NA on other 997's. I think that's unlikely now though, so I went out and got a 997S with PASM today! She's in Germany waiting for a boat. Reallistically, since the car will be mainly a daily driver for me, I think PASM will be just fine.

    Re: Sport suspension -20mm ??

why is the 20 mm suspension not avail in north America?

I have taken the car up to 188mph and its extremly stable and very comunicative.

Probably because Porsche would need to crash-test the car again with the lower ride height and it is not worth the expense, since so few NA buyers would order it

I think a lot of 997 owner would order it here in the U.S. if they were given the chance.

    Re: Sport suspension -20mm ??

I think alot of people would order the car this way ?

That's what I thought, so I hoped the GT3 testing would allow that suspension to be available for other 997's. I understand that that is how the sunroof delete became an option in NA on the 996 series. Ie. at first, cars came with sunroof only. Then, after GT3 was intriduced (no sunroof) and passed its qualifications, other 996's were allowed to be brought into NA without sunroof. I think I was wrong though. I'm told it has more to do with standard bumper hieghts, but then that would make after market lowered suspensions illegal wouldn't it?

I definitely don't have a good handle on this one.

    Re: Sport suspension -20mm ??

the 996 gt3's and gt2's had low bumper heights, has to be something else ???

Maybe bumper height standardization laws have changed??

    I dunno, but I hope someone around here does . . .

    Re: Sport suspension -20mm ??

The Car and Driver review, states that the new Gt3 has adjustable ride height. Maybe that's how they will it get to pass the bumper height law, in the US.
