Porsche might be thinking of producing in South Africa
Already, VW and Mercedes produce some models there for subsequent export to Europe. The low cost more than offsets the need to pay import duties in the EU and the additional logistics. I had a C-class and currently a VW Polo made in SA. They are as good as anything from the original factories Germany.

BMW has (or used to) produce there as well.
Frankly for this price on the edge of Jo'burg it's a good deal on land price alone. They will probably put some money in it and have a great winter test track and try to get it back on the LeMans series. It wasn't that long ago it was an F1 track...

Bloomberg says that the track was purchased by "Porsche South Africa is an independent importer and isn’t part of Volkswagen AG". Thus this does not appear to be a factory purchase.

The track was bought by Toby Venter the CEO of Porsche SA
He's a great racing driver and couldn't see it go
I'm sure Porsche will use the track for testing ,South Africa is used extensively for testing ,also Kyalami is close to 6000ft above sea level
if I'm not mistaken one of the or if not the highest track in the world
