    DaveChapin:

RC, does your turbo s have the road sign detection feature the porsche site advertises as an option? If so how well does it work?

Nope, I don't have it (it is easier to watch the road than the speedo cluster Smiley). I have a speed limit recognition though, which seems to be camera based but it could also be related to the PCM navigation data.

Enjoy it - in any case you're in the right country to give it the beans!

Re: 991 Turbo S - Short Driving Report (owner)

Thank you, guys. Actually, it looks better in reality than on these photos. I cannot believe Porsche wouldn't offer the original Turbo S rims in black. yes

Yes, the clear tail lights but I'm not sure yet they will stay. They look great when the sun doesn't shine (they have a slightly gray tone then) but when the sun shines and there is a lot of light, the tail lights look really clear, which isn't a very good look. My son hates them.

I was thinking about covering them with a transparent, slightly grayish, foil but it would be illegal and it is impossible to get a TÜV approval for that without proper certification (which would cost a fortune, if it would work at all). Saw a car with that (grayish foil) done a couple of months ago and it looked perfect but like I said, this wouldn't be street legal and I could lose insurance coverage if I have it done anyway. Smiley

I never like the bicolor bling of the Turbo S wheels, in fact I don't like any bicolor style rim I can think of.

Re: 991 Turbo S - Short Driving Report (owner)

I will admit with black wheels the car looks better. There is not much that can help agate grey but this certainly does.

Here is a good picture of Agate grey with the white tail lenses.

Re: 991 Turbo S - Short Driving Report (owner)

I am probably the only person here who do not like black wheels with Agate Grey. No contrast at all. You can barely see the wheel design when it is painted in black. Specially in distances over 5m or so.

Also, Platinum satin is little bit too brown for me. I still do not understand why Porsche can not offer something like Titanium grey wheels a la Audi?

Yes, it is a black with a matte finish. it matches the black CL cover with colored Porsche crest perfectly.

The black wheels look much better in reality and yes, they change the whole look of the car, turning it from semi-elegant/sporty to sporty.

Unfortunately I had to get new tires after the rim paint job because the tires had to be removed completely and I was afraid to re-use the old once for safety reasons. Rear tire tread was gone by aprox. 70% anyway...so no big deal.

Same tires (PZero with N-rating). I was thinking about getting the Dunlop Sport Maxx with N-rating but a friend advised against them. He claims that the PZero offers a similar dry performance, better wet performance and that the Dunlops are only better for the track for longer driving (with higher temps, they get stickier and do not loose grip even after prolonged track driving). I listened to him and saved a lot of money. Smiley

RC, you condemn grey wheels as boring on a car you ordered ... in grey?

I feel conflicting goals in tension here. You want sporty but at the same time you don't want to look sporty. You need to just order that bright yellow or bright red Porsche that deep down you know you really really want (outraging/offending the neighbors be damned).

Re: 991 Turbo S - Short Driving Report (owner)

    DaveChapin:

I didn't order it and I would have never ordered a Boxster S in this combo (agate grey with satin rims and black leather). A Boxster S needs to be colorful, I wouldn't want to start the whole woman's Porsche prejudice again but my wife was the first to complaint about the grey in grey. Why did I take it? Well...I exchanged it with a Cayenne GTS at no extra (lease) cost, so it was kind of a "take it or leave it" deal. Had no choice.

I feel conflicting goals in tension here. You want sporty but at the same time you don't want to look sporty. You need to just order that bright yellow or bright red Porsche that deep down you know you really really want (outraging/offending the neighbors be damned).

Of course I want the car to look sporty but you cannot get a color like yellow or red on a 991 Turbo S over here in Germany, this is a no go. As an example: My neighbor owns a red C63 AMG Black Series and you wouldn't believe the jokes and comments the people make behind his back. This is deep catholic Bavaria, not colorful Miami. Smiley

Also, I had no choice in choosing a different rim color since I got the first car and I was happy about that. Many test mules in Weissach have matte black painted rims, this is where I got this idea from because I really like how they look. I could have done some playful foil jobs on my car but this would be too much I'm afraid.

In the end, I would have loved to see a 991 Turbo RS, kind of an AWD GT2 version but Porsche apparently doesn't believe in such a product, at least not for now.

Some people do but I'm not so sure what is going on right now with the "GT" models. I think they are still chewing on the GT3 disaster, recovering from it isn't easy and it cannot happen again (and it won't).
