    Re: 2014 Porsche Targa Debut

Suzy, bless you but people do expect a Bentley to be heavy.indecision I commented about Tiff because you called him a failed race driver.  He didn't even bother to take the Targa on a track and  if you watch the Video again he does comment about the cabin windage and some of the other things you asked about.

As a motoring fashion accessory, some people might still by the Targa if Porsche put a NA flat four in it and a CVT. Smiley

Well... You have a point there ;)

And sorry, I can't help thinking that he is always frustrated. He only seems happy when a car goes sideways. I know he did achieve some nice things in racing, but there are other reviewers that are (IMHO) better and more pleasant to listen to. But that's subjective of course.

He did indeed mention the cabin windage. I missed that the first time. (Probably because I was annoyed about him mentioning the weight every three seconds). But one thing I'll admit... He is at least honest in his reviews. Things that can't be said about some other "well respected" reviewers all the time.

The Targa is for a different type of customer. You won't see many on the track. For what it is I find it visually very attractive and very unique. Provided that the roof system doesn't get too rattly, squeaky and noisy, which I suspect it will be the case with time.

I think a lot of popular testers are caught up in doing power slides because:  A) They can, B) Not their tire money (see CH n F12) and C) Producers think it looks exciting.  The diff with someone like Tiff is that he can control it on ice, dirt and snow. Most can't.

    Re: 2014 Porsche Targa Debut

You have to keep in mind that Tiff's review was for Evo Magazine which more extreme sports/track focused than the norm for magazines.

Right ..after he talks about the obvious compromises an open version of any car   has in terms of weight/stiffness degradations to at the limit handling and quickness ( which a buyer is willingly giving up  to enjoy said Targa or cab version ) he states at he end he'd rather have an Aston !

    Re: 2014 Porsche Targa Debut

    SuzyF:

The Targa is indeed targated to a different kind of people than the ones who would buy a coupe, but I'll bet that even the top-heavy Targa handles better than a lot of other so called "sports cars".

    Agree 100%

True. However, my dealer has one (for the dealership, as a demo car) and the price is 156k EUR. Ouch.

It really looks good (or maybe I should use the word "interesting" instead), why should I lie but the Cab makes much more sense in my opinion.

Had the opportunity to see in real life  the 991 Targa at my dealer. I think the car looks great, maybe because of the lower roofline it appears to be smaller than the 911 Coupe or Cabriolet , probably an optical illusion , nevertheless this is the perception I had.  It definitely needs to be specified in contrasting colors to the aluminum color targa roll bar. Will not work with silver or very bright colors.  The 991 displayed was a 4S in agate grey on bi-color agate grey / pebble grey leather and platinum Carrera S rims. Very good looking

    Re: 2014 Porsche Targa Debut

Today I had a loaner Targa 4S and took a three hour spin.

After the first 50 meters, I was seriously shocked. The closed roof was constantly rattling and squeeking from the back. At higher speeds it was not noticeable, but at speeds below 70 km/h it was really irritating.

Driving with the open roof was also not such a pleasure. There was significant more wind noise than in my cab with the wind shield up. An absolute no go for me is that you can open/close the roof only in standstill. All in all, I was a bit disappointed. Bringing the Targa back was a brave move by Porsche, but in it's current form It needs more refinement.

But it really looks good :)

    It does look awesome.

Maybe there will be a 2015 Porsche Targa GTS with some improvements, more hp and a sportier suspension set up.

    Re: 2014 Porsche Targa Debut

I've had my Targa 4S for a week now. When I saw it in person I couldn't resist. I actually went to the dealership to have them look at an issue I was having with my 981 Boxster, and by the time I left I had traded my car in for the Targa they had just gotten in the day before. As for the color, I had assumed only a dark color would look good (I probably would've selected black beforehand), but mine is rhodium silver and I really like it.

No doubt the Targa is going to be a matter of personal taste (I guess all cars are to some degree). But I will say that I'm thoroughly enjoying mine!

Yes, the 981 group over there is very active.

Don't expect too much 991 activity here though Smiley Smiley

Maybe this isn't the right thread to post this in but I just saw a 991 Turbo Cab, a 991 Targa and a 991 Cab one next to each other (should have taken a photo...bummer) and the most beautiful car was the...991 Turbo Cab. Didn't know how good the Turbo Cab looks until I actually saw it, it may be related to the wider rear and the "higher" roof line. yes

I love the way the Turbos look too - cab and coupe!! With the top down, the Turbo Cab is by far my favorite. With the top "up", I like the Turbo coupe the best.

My struggle had been that I love the ability to have the "top down" ride on a nice day, but I just haven't been a big fan of very many convertibles when they have the top up (for many reasons, but mostly because they just don't look great to me). The Targa for me is a nice compromise (since my wife wouldn't let me have both a cab and coupe for some reason, which was the better compromise in my opinion).

I agree - that's why a turbo targa would be of interest so much Smiley
