Re: 991 spy shots 2ND THREAD (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

Any idea if the 991.2 gets an updated PCM like the 997.2 over the 997.1?

Re: 991 spy shots 2ND THREAD (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

What exactly about the PCM do you think is in need of an update?  Any suggestions/ideas?

Re: 991 spy shots 2ND THREAD (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

Well, I don't expect changes of the screen size but maybe improved hardware and graphic design.

the 997.2 the PCM made a huge step with the introduction of a touchscreen.

Display size, touch sensibility, anti-shake touch correction (not even sure this exists yet), resolution, speed, functionality incl. features. I could continue. Smiley

What about a completely new system?? PCM is rubbish compared to what other, "cheaper" brands in the VAG group offer. Even the Golf 7 has a much better infotainment system than Porsche. PCM is a big disappointment when you're usd to Audi's MMI or BMW's iDrive for example.

I like that Porsche went the touchscreen way, it's really intuitive. When you look at the 918 you probably see how they want to implement the PCM in the middle console. Or take the Panamera Sportturismo as a hint of the future. I just can't imagine that they introduce a new PCM system like in the 918 with the 991 facelift.

I'm not sure whether touch is the way to go.
Touch screens are difficult to use when driving, since you want to keep your eyes on the road. Without the feel of hardware buttons, I find that difficult to do.
Would be interesting to hear feedback about that from Tesla Model S and 918 customers.

That's the main reason why I like MMI so much. (and iDrive as well). Especially now with the touch sensible controller where you can use gestures for input in the navi. Works flawless and Google maps navi is perfectly intergrated.

IMO it's a shame that such a nice system is on the VAG shelfs, yet it's not used for their high-end brands like Porsche, Lamborghini and Bentley.

Touch operated systems in cars are a problem because neither the display itself nor the touch sensitivity adapt to the car actually moving. I know that you shouldn't use the PCM while driving but what about the co-passenger? Same issues here. Some sort of anti-shake feature would be great.

Not a fan of the BMW type navigation systems with i-something. I don't like them, this is old school, like using a mouse.

The 918 has two screens, what do you thing about this solution? IMO a head-up display would be a nice upgrade for Porsche.

I don't like head-up displays, never did. They distract from driving.

Re: 991 spy shots 2ND THREAD (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

I'm not quite sure, but I think we didn't discuse if the 991.2 could get any sort of PAA (porsche active aerodynamics). I find this topic very interesting and I'm wondering what will come next. Other manufactures like Ferrari try to keep a clean design without any spoilers. Which way do you like best?

I was quite amazed when Porsche introduced the 4-stage rearspoiler on the Panamera Turbo, but I haven't heard any facts which say how much downforce it really produces. Any informations? I hope they make something more of that if it's worth it. They could use such a 4-stage spoiler for other models as well.

next: a possible air brake, I would like to see such a solution, it's fascinating. They could use the whole rearspoiler or just some integrated moveable parts in it, and combine it with an moveable frontspoiler.

what do you guys think about the whole active aerodynamics topic? Maybe even some technical hints?

    cheers

Unblelivable how Porsche can think that the sound that car makes is acceptable... sounds worse than a 3 series sedan

Re: 991 spy shots 2ND THREAD (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

Which sound ? There is no more sound at all !! Probably already respecting  the future 2016 noise restriction.surprise

The car seems to be able to cope very well at it's limits .

Car looks much more lively than the new Audi R8, albeit that video shows the Audi out in the rain.

Could this be it? I think so from looking at the spy shots.

    GREAT!

    But....

Where are the decals and the front splitters?

Different rear bumper from GT3 too...love the front wheels arches with air grille

Whatever they might be, Porsche should have styled them different to Turbo's.

According to Fastlanedaily.com the RS will be turbocharged - as will Ferrari's updated 458!!!

911 Turbo has big grills at the back hood, this don't. So, no turbo charging? yes

You will know more soon. This car is NA engine.

Price is accoring to my source sky high.

Just... Some things are cooking rather strange in P HQ lately. Even some huge changes are possible. Like NO RS at all! I do not belive in that but, we will see soon...

Re: 991 spy shots 2ND THREAD (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

Kreso : What is soon ?  I am getting very inpatient . The wait has been soooo long mail

But as time passes, If I were at P HD I would also seriously think about skipping 991.1RS as it is getting way to long into the production cycle ( FL of Carrera just around the corner )  +  NA engine might indeed not be ideal for the future racing homologations .

And what is sky high for the price ????  more then 20-30 K more then GT3 ?
