Last night about 1 am, the era truly ended. Lord Sun finished his 3 miles up his canyon yesterday, quite tired the last mile, but completing his rounds back to home. He then lay down to rest, and died in my arms with great dignity and peace all stretched out in his normal snoozing position.
It was his last run to Wilson, Wy, although thanks God for all the miles and runs that came after
We hiked over 15,000 miles together over 13 + years, and we will love him forever.
From this
to this... today
to this. The world's fastest hearse has been busy this year
By the time Sun's body lay down to rest next to his sister Star, Storm, Spike Jr, Sandy and Surf, he had soared by in his Redhawk spirit overhead dive bombing the ravens in greeting to us below, as we dug.
And clearly already his Lordship at age 1 and 1/2, putting up with some frat "bro-ey" behaviour from his future Stanford Sigma Nu brother.
God blessed you big guy, blessed us with your strength, and we love you so. Au revoir, A dios Lord Sun

Sad to read that his lordship has made his way to the Great Hike.
It must have been a blessing to have spent so many times in his presence.
Wishing you all the best, take care Watt!

Goodbye, Sun. Very moved by your great love and dedication to what was truly a beautiful, intelligent and lovable/loving dog and a more fantastic experience together.
Beautiful memories, Watt. Wishing you all the best in this tough time. It all gets better.

Writing this with tears pouring down my cheeks..
So sorry to hear the news Watt, but Sun will live on in our memories through your fantastic account of his life in this thread... You too can refer back and re-live the good times. What a great legacy he leaves...
Brings back thoughts of when each of my dogs passed on over the years and how much they were missed. Now hugging my current Spaniel, "Casper", and dreading the day he goes... Just hope he has as much 'living the life' as you made sure Sun did...
"Things turn out best for people who make the best of the way things turn out."
Sun loves his rennlist friends very much and we deeply appreciate the sentiments, in this time of deepest distress.
Conny, we will continue since you ask... as dog and cat life works out forward, report on upcoming RS runs tin NZ, new friends for Sky and more cats to boot, Macan turbo runs up the high country stations of the South Island, and Speciale runs across the north and South Islands......
We had always hoped Sun being so healthy would just "fall off a cliff"i.e., pass quickly so -- We are so thankful Sun died a quick natural death, regal in death as well as life, truly LORD SUN.
Sky's first day of leadership was perfect. He led us on the three mile canyon loop in Sun's honour. As you can see, he set a good example in the coal mines, is cheerful and chunkster!!!
Sun [R] with Betsy [L] his girlfriend deceased [at age 11] about 7 years ago. He went up there and found her dead in the backyard and laid with her and howled.
Betsy's mother said yesterday:"I better tell Betsy Sun's on his way to see her!" and sent this pic today. Her family is in mourning for him.
