    The "Hellcat" has arrived

    http://www.drivesrt.com/2015/challenger-srt-hellcat/

Very tempting. The engine is rumored to make it into the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT too in about two years.

Rumored price tag for Germany (import car) is 70k EUR.

Oh...I saw one driving around near Friedrichshafen (Germany), a pre-production car which was probably there at ZF.

Lots of fun options, like for example two keys, a black one which allows the car to produce 500 hp only and a red one which allows the car to produce the full 680 horses.

    Also lots of setups possible...

That is actually one of the few American cars I would like to have. I think it's by far the best revival of the old American pony car. Brutal, unsophisticated, simple, but a lot of character. And now even the interior looks pretty nice (on pictures at least).

My father in law will be trading his 2012 SRT8 392 for one of these... Looking forward to drive it indecision

Could be a very fun car and the '' fun factor'' makes it up for the lack of sofisaication .

These types of car might be a good alternative in countries like Switzerland, where you can not speed anymore .  Driving in a TTS at 80 km/h is no fun , in this kind of car it just might be

You guys like this thing? Seems American cars are way cooler in Europe than in America. Guess the same is true for European cars in the US.

I think these cars are hideous. Wouldn't be caught dead in one.

It is fun, especially with the manual, but there's one problem. The car IS enormous but also FEELS enormous. It's perfect to do a roadtrip in the US (which is what we did last summer), but on our narrow twisty roads this car doesn't feel at home I guess. Handling is not as bad as one would expect, but it's far from nimble.

However, i was surprised how much I started to like the car after driving it for about 2500 miles through California, Nevada and Arizona. There is some kind of "feel good" about the car, when used that way. Not sure if that would be the same when used here in Europe. Smiley

Yes, US cars have quite an appeal in Europe, especially the Ford Mustang versions, the Camaro, the Challenger and various Jeeps like the GC SRT, the Wrangler and even the Diesel versions of them. The Corvette for example not that much because it still has that "pimp" image over here. Same goes to the Viper btw..

I had considered a Ford Mustang GT500 Shelby, maybe even in Super Snake flavor (200 horses more) but in the end, I just don't have any additional garage space for another car. The Camaro ZL1 is also interesting, so was the Challenger SRT for little money (40k EUR in Germany).

My Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT is an amazing car, top quality (completely unexpected from a US SUV) and I just love it. It attracts more attention than any Cayenne over here and the performance is out of this world. From standstill, it needs exactly 4.4 seconds to 100 kph and it is fast as a rocket, there is no lag from standstill.

I really think that American car lovers, sometimes, don't really have a clue how good some of the US cars are. Also, the price/performance ratio is amazing with US cars. For 40k EUR (Challenger SRT), I get a BMW 3 series with little options and a Diesel engine. Smiley

In Bavaria, actually almost every douche bag drives a BMW 3 series. You actually want to be different. Smiley

Nope, wouldn't want to be caught dead in one either. Horrid cars IMO. I'd rent one for a road trip in the US, but that's as far as I wish to be exposed to these cars. Smiley

    Re: The "Hellcat" has arrived

That's the problem in the US. Great price for performance, but all the good cars have shitty versions that are cheap and look exactly the same, and are all over the place.

Everyone exotic owner in the US wants Z06 or ZL1 performance, but they don't want to own a car that looks exactly like a $30K one. The new Z06 will be amazing, but it will just look like a fancy $50K Corvette that every 50 year old dude buys. Corvette average age might not be that much different than Ferrari, but a lot more can afford a Corvette than a Ferrari.

For me, I don't buy cheap American performance because they are too cheap and common, and I don't buy low-end luxury European cars because they are just overpriced shit. It's either something special and high-end, or something good and cheap.

I remember when I took my R8 in for some work and they gave me some sort of A4 loaner. My God, what a piece of shit. Not only was it like a $3X,000 car, but the gas mileage on it was mid-20s, I felt like I was going to crash because the brakes felt like mush, and nothing about the interior seemed fancy. Same goes for 3er, C-class, etc.

I'd rather pay $20-30K for a nice Honda or VW. There is very little difference between a nice, regular brand and an low-end luxury brand.

Try the GT500 Shelby with SVT package. You are going to change your mind.

Was that Mustang on the photo a V8 or V6? I assume it was the V6. I drove a Mustang GT (with the V8) last year and it wasn't that bad.

The V6 I drove in the US once (two years ago?) sucked big time.

    Re: The "Hellcat" has arrived

These cars are great fun to drive. I think people put a little too much consideration into the status of a car and not on the substance sometimes; you can really miss out on some good stuff. The current Shelby is my favourite of the new muscle cars but I would give my left arm for a 71 Hemi Cuda.

    Re: The "Hellcat" has arrived

I can understand why some people might like them, patriotism, straight-line speed, power/money ratios, rarity in a market (europe), but I can't look at these things and see them as anything other than quick-to-fast pieces of crap with mostly cutting edge technology from 1935 (chassis) or 1965 (engines).

there is a reason that 80% of them won't be on the road in 15 years and that's because they are pieces of crap.

I've done a fair amount of tack work in a ZR1 and other fast corvettes. They are capable, fast, cheap and still, they are crap.

It will take a lot of time and numerous superlative, LASTING generations of these cars to make me thing anything else.

Things changed. Quality changed. Also, most US manufacturers are using the same suppliers (and sometimes even the same parts) as their European counterparts. I was deeply surprised by the quality of my Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, also because I have driven many US SUVs in the past during our numerous US vacations and most of them, incl. the Cadillac Escalade we had often, were really crappy. Even the 2014 Escalade I had during our last Florida vacation was actually much better in quality than the previous models. I don't know what happened but the car felt better planted on the road, the steering was a bit more direct and not as light as always and the throttle response was also better. Same goes to the interior quality look and feel.

I think that US manufacturers realized at some point that they have to do something to be able to compete with their European and Japanese competitors. I just hope they do not stop in improving their products.

95% of cars on the road are disposable, it's planned obsolescence. Companies want to sell you a car every 4-6 years and make as much money as they can in the process. I sat in a 130k Viper once and it felt like a K-car. I hate to sound overly nostalgic, but they don't make them like the used to.

The Hummer H1, derived from the military vehicle, was the only true Hummer.  The  H2 and H3 were nothing more than styling exercises based on horrid GM truck platforms.  The H1 was slow, noise but incredible off-road.

I too remain perplexed by the European interest in American cars, many of which, I would never even consider purchasing or even leasing.  The last rental car I drove was a beastly Chrysler 300 with some gutless V6 motor and recalcitrant automatic transmission that slammed into each gear after an excruciating pause between shifts.  That car reaffirmed why Chrysler failed in 2008 and was restructured in 2009, when in reality, it should have faced liquidation.

Chrysler's combination with Fiat, based on the fabled increase in fuel efficient vehicles has really yet to materialize, again, as evidenced by such cars like the Grand Cherokee SRT and Challenger Hellcat.  The Fiat 500 is a sales disaster in the States and has developed nothing but remorse on those dealers who ponied up capital for the dealership investment.  The Alfa Romeo 4C is almost stillborn here.  The launch of the Dodge Dart, based on an Alfa front wheel drive platform, and the Jeep Cherokee, again based on that same platform were botched and very late; sales have failed to meet the original targets.  Fiat even insisted that the early Dart launch vehicles be equipped with manuals for the U.S. market!!!  The Dart even faced an in-house competitor in the form of the dated Dodge Avenger, which was a larger, bigger engined and cheaper car.

Sergio's strength is hearing himself talk about the latest socialist Five Year Plan his team has developed...The only cars that sell in the Chrysler portfolio are the traditional Jeeps, based on the new Mercedes platform, big a$$ed 'Merican pickup trucks and a handful of performance cars like the Challenger and Charger.  All of these cars were and are developed by the Chrysler "True Believers" that were at Chrysler well before Marchionne's team of dreamers arrived in Auburn Hills.  Chrysler and Fiat both lag significantly in development of hybrids and electrified vehicles needed to meet upcoming regulations in the United States.  Yesterday, even the highly vaunted jumper wearing CEO admitted that he rather not sell Fiat 500 EVs in the States, because they lose $14,000 per unit.

as will all main and console  instrument displays  in the near future ...mechanical gauges will be 100 % gone in another generation in all cars ...makers will see it as an needlessly  complicated extra cost manufacturing  step when a user configurable screen will be what buyers demand and expect , the more " entertaining " the better,  from their standpoint

uhhh..... this is not an executive sedan or EV....this is a 600+ hp throwback  muscle car...an adult's TOY ...so in that CONTEXT it is  fine....and I am sure there are others who wish these options could be configurable on their rides now too...makes the original reason for the  " lap timer " dash wart of the Porsches look more primitive with  each passing year ...now basically used as a quick glance analog clock since newest version keeps time

a bit off topic, but I read there  will be a time in the future where all glazing on some premium cars will feature augmented reality so that even at midnight, the world outside can be shown as at mid day for driving ease , or on a cloudy day, the sky can be replaced with blue sky and a few fluffy clouds added if desired  to lift yours or passengers' moods

Range Rover already has the augmented reality " invisible " front hood, where if you are at the crest of a steep off road hill pointing at the heavens above ,  cameras project by heads up display across the hood what awaits you on the descent before you commit to driving off a cliff.
