Thank you. Does the free maintenance also include brake pads. Also, I know that brakes are all ceramic now and in theory rotors don't wear out, so if they needed replacement outside the warranty period, would this fall under maintenance too?

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

Had the opportunity to give a friends 991 turbo S a good thrashing round an airfield today. The first surprise was when we compared its acceleration to a non S 991 turbo there was zero difference at all both two up.

The next interesting thing was that at the top end, over 250kph the acceleration falls off quite badly, in fact the maximum speed it was managing was around 190mph/306kph (after ~1.5 miles) and this was about the same top speed as the 997 turbo S which was there. A 480PS 997.1 Mezger was managing similar top speed numbers numbers. It seems the Dfi motor will deliver its hp in the lower speed ranges but at high loads the engine reduces the power.

For comparison of real Mezger hp my 993 turbo (with draggy GT2 bodywork and wing) with 577PS and Secan intercooling was hitting its rev limiter at 201mph 150 metres before the timing beams.

The Turbo S was supremely stable and quiet, taking launch control launches in its stride, it is incredible how they have made it feel 200kg lighter in the way it handles, it changes direction probably better than my 7GT2 and the lateral acceleration it can pull is incredible it seems the back end is fully tamed

I agree with the remarks as I had a 997.1 TT (Jan 09 till Mar 11) and I don't see a big difference between it and my current 991TT (non S) despite the 997.1 TT having a non DFI 3.6 F6 (vs DFI 3.8 F6), no PDK & no launch control. Accelerating with Sport plus the 997.1's digital speedo would jump in 12KM/H increments all the way till 3rd gear changes to 4th. While on 4th, it would still be decent till it changes to 5th (the last gear for the 997.1TT) at precisely 287. Then the car would literally die with its speed increasing 1KM/H every second till it hits its top speed.

My experience has been different...twice. Up to 180 kph or so, the 997 Turbo S keeps up quite nicely (without using launch control on the 991 Turbo S) but over 220 kph, the 997 Turbo S clearly falls back. Weird. I always have full 1.2 bar boost pressure (according to digital display) over 220 kph, almost up to top speed (337 kph on the speedo, real 320 kph measured by GPS). I use 100 octane VPower fuel (95 octane US), car has 7200 km on it.

That is interesting, the 991 turbo S had the Shell V Power we get in the UK which is 99 RON , so not as potent as the 100 RON "racing" stuff you get in Germany and we know that particularly on these engine the fuel can make a big difference.

Also the 991 turbo S was showing 1.1 bar at the high speed and it had only done 1300km so maybe he wasn't getting full power. Certainly the factory demonstrator 991 turbo (non S) was well run in and seemed to have similar power.

I still think at the very high loads nearing 300kph the engines are dialling back the power, it would make sense from the manufacturers point of view, keeping heat down, preserving components and one really only needs about 470PS to ultimately hit 320kph in a 911 with these aerodynamics.

Indeed.  Is the road noise really such an issue in this car?

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

For me no. If you don't have music on it is a big part of the noise in the cabin. One thing I did notice and maybe its just me but the burmester sounds better with the roof down than up. So I guess they altered it over the coupe version. But it could be me. There is a speaker under the seat so I keep thinking my iPhone is going off all the time.

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

The wheels look terrible, but the painted sideskirts are a must IMO. I already pointed it out in Kreso's thread. It's now a factory option since MY2015 and for bright colors, i think it's a no brainer for all 991s (except the C2 bodied models, where that option is not avaiable).

The painted side skirts really do make a big difference.

I just wonder how well they will hold up after time since that area of the body gets punished pretty bad by gravel, salt, dirt, etc..kiss

I would guess pretty exposed. Then again, it is a cheap plastic part even with Porsche standards and if one can afford a 991 Turbo I assume one can have it replaced without any major financial damage Smiley Compared to a set of tires they are probably "for free".

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

Form follows function. I wouldn't get them painted either...

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

I love painted if the entire car can be painted (front, side, rear).  On the 991 the front obviously can't be (or wouldn't look good painted) so I think getting the sides painted breaks up the natural flow of the black on the bottom of the car.  Just my $0.02.

Sometimes cars look weird when every single visible part is painted in body color. A little black here and there doesn't hurt.

There is nothing I despise more than silver rims...so black rims would be great (I would settle with slightly brighter colors too though). Smiley Silver rims are elegant, black (dark colored) rims are sporty. Same goes to window trims, chrome looks elegant, black looks sporty. I know this is a matter of taste but I see less and less chrome used on super sports cars and the black rims became more and more popular over the past couple of years.

Remember: I had black rims on my 2000 996 Turbo...when Porsche Exclusive department actually called my dealer to ask if the black rims aren't an order mistake. At that time, nobody had black rims on their cars, especially not in combination with guards red. Smiley Smiley

Which one looks sportier? Exactly my point.

More sporty yes. But the silver rimmed car I think looks better.  We're talking lambos and 911s here... It's not like sportiness is in short supply.

In my opinion, it doesn't. Silver = elegance. Black = sporty. This can be actually "transferred" to many other things, like watches, bathroom appliances and many other things.

"Sporty" has never been a major criteria for me when shopping for bathroom appliances, although, I wonder if a black hair dryer would speed things up for my wife a bit. It's probably worth a try.

Well, sporty sometimes translates into beautiful and attractive. I always associate the word elegant with old. Can't help it. Smiley Btw: I have not a single tie in my closet. Smiley
