    Porsche outing

The other weekend a few of us around here gathered to do a nice drive and luch as we sometimes do, it was good fun and great weather so I though I'd share some pictures of the cars and the roads driver.gif Smiley

We gathered firts for breakfast at a hotel were we fueled up and had  a small briefing of the route we were going to do.

We would be going through mountain roads with little to no traffic at all on a Saturday morning, that went back and fourth between Portugal and  Spain, total distance was 200km (120miles).

Everybody got a route booklet and we were 26 cars so each one would go at their own desired pace and fell into place accordingly, those that wanted a more spirited pace would go on the lead and those more laid back would trail back.

During the route I enjoyed the view of that beautiful 996GT3RS in front of me who was the organiser of the route and lead the way.

Full brake and stare down contest... not going to lie... I lost and I circled slowly past when aI saw the chance Smiley

Halfway we stopped to stretch our legs and have a snack.

And we reached a scenic river with a dam were we stopped as well

Around 2:30pm we arrived back to the city and we parked the cars at the Auto Show that was being held those days.

And went to a restaurant that overlooked the city/coast for a long lunch that finished at around 5:30 in the evening Smiley

All in all, it was a fun day, those mountain roads reminded me why I love manuals, and especially 911's  Smiley

Does he own a 73 rs as well by any chance? If so, he single handedly owns my dream garage!

@Easy, the 997S has passed 185,000km  and is going strong like the first day (doubt you could say the same thing with other sportcars), and  with the -20mm, PSE, RWD and manual gearbox its still so fun to drive after all these years, I have never bonded like that with any other car for some reason.

Fantastic! You tend to hear all these negatives about the 997.1 3.8's build quality, but apparently you've had no such issues? Still love your spec! Smiley

    Re: Porsche outing

The problem is more with the first year of production until those built May 2005 onwards, those early models had the IMS castastrphic engine failure problem that the 996's had, but after that after May 2005 the IMS was finally reinforced and that seemed to do it. Besides that there are no "special" issues with the 997.1 kiss

    Re: Porsche outing

When Carlos reaches 200.000 km, Porsche should make a gift to him, like a new car at a very special price.

A modern 911 reaching such a mileage without any serious issues, contrary to the negative reputation cultivated on the internet. Something for Porsche Marketing to attend to.

I had a very early 997.1 (first 600 like my 996) and I never had any issues - IMS or otherwise.  It had huge miles (more than yours) when I sold it.  I think the key is DRIVING it everyday without too much abuse but quickly.  My PCCB brake pads and rotors still looked like new and I drove it fast and braked hard - just not on a track.  I would guess that after more than 200K KM I had 40% brakes left.

Carlos - you and I understand the joy of driving these cars.  BTW in less than 11 months I have added 22K miles to my Turbo - with lots of winter driving on summer tires.  Heading to Dallas and then the beaches of Texas (south Padre Island) next weekend with my wife and Dachshund packed into the Turbo.  Keep driving - any excuse is proper.SmileySmiley

I second that! Smiley Actually I'm contemplating getting a low milage 2nd 991 Turbo, but maybe next year since now is not the best time for that since it still came out relatively recently. Kind of a strange idea for me since I generally like atmospherics more and normally I would be thinking of  getting a new CarreraS but with the 991 Porsche has made the Carrera de worst in the line up in terms of value/money, a well optioned Carrera S goes for 145,000€... for a Carrera S. And also the Porsche strategy of bringing facelifts every other day makes for a bad time to get a Carrera S now since they are going to change it next year agian. Fortunately, the 997S has been so good to me and still enjoy it so much that I'm not in a situation were I need to hurry so I have time to think hmm.gif

Time flies! Mine was a 2005 May build delivered first week in June. That -20mm non-PASM sports suspension was pretty sweet as I remember. With PSE "always on" hack the car was pretty loud too Smiley

I understand the bound you have with your car . I am sometimes contemplating as my next car a 997.1 or .2 , - 20 mm, manual , as I do not know what else I would otherwise use as a DD currently .

You could have got my 997.2 Smiley Then you would have had the ultimate garage for people who cannot decide: a black 997.2 -20mm with PDK and a white 997.2 -20mm with manual.

My problem with the 991 Turbo is that the car is so refined that you need to push it to enjoy it . You have to feel the turbo boost , otherwise there is not too much going on . And the problem with pushing the TT is that you get into very high speeds very quickly . Over here you would always be in the illegal speed zone and probably loose your license at one point or another for month....or even years .

I see the TT as the super bikes  . Within legal speeds limit it does not bring pleasure ..... pleasure only starts after that .

    Re: Porsche outing

Thats a good point too, also I love the exhaust sound of the "997.1 PSE" which is night and day compared to the 991 Turbo, and then there is the loosing the manual shifting due to PDK, and added weight as well as softer ride... lots of changes that I'm not sure how I going to like after a while of ownership. I see no obviuos choice right now surprise
