RC, always posts during his holidays, except this time. I suspect he wanted a detox from rennteam, although he doesn't want to admit it.

You can tell from his Hertz rant that he was suffering from Cold Turkey.    SmileySmiley

OMG RC! How on earth can you drive a Cadillac Escalade?  mail Do you fancy a new carreer as a rapper?

The 2014 Escalade is a pretty sweet ride. Quality is OK (not as good as on my Jeep GC though), the ride quite sporty and steering is quite direct (though not really sporty), I actually like this car a lot because it offers a lot of room for the family. I wish I had a career as a rapper, so I would make tons of money. Smiley

Seriously, I think I would rather leave some famiily behind than drive an Escalade.... Smiley (Maybe it's a good thing that I don't want kids, i would be a bad mother I guess).

The alternatives aren't really that great. The Mercedes GL is the only family SUV which is acceptable, everything else (especially that Lincoln Navigator I mentioned) really sucks. Some friends of ours, they were in the US for the first time with their kids, got a Nissan Rogue from their rental company (National) and would have loved to have an Escalade. We had a Tahoe once but this car was horrible, so much plastic in the interior, horrible.

oh.. Welcome back BTW indecision I hope that you, despite the Hertz problems, enjoyed a very nice vacation. kiss

The Hertz problem was solved fast, thanks to that Hertz CEO we knew from the past (what a nice person, I haven't seen him for over three years and he still helped us, even if he wasn't in the US anymore). The vacation itself was wonderful, we had a great time. One little exception though: This "little fellow" starred at me while I was taking a picture of it (not at a park but in free nature). Just later I realized how dangerous this situation has been...this snake was only one meter away from my right leg. Stupid me (if I'm not mistaken, this is a Cottonmouth and very poisonous).

It may be, although, I am not herpetologist enough to say definitively from that picture. But, if they aren't hungry and/or are a little cool and are not moulting, and you don't threaten them too much, they are relatively docile. Did it open it's mouth at you? If so, that would have been a good time to back off, and also aids in the identification. They are certainly not uncommon in that area.

    Re: Porsche should be ashamed!

Hey RC, good to hear you've got it sorted with Hertz after all.. that sounds like terrible service and thankfully you got contacts to get a better deal vs. being bend over their counter and taking it... Would you still recommend Hertz? I have a California roadtrip planned this August and I am looking at my rental... Last year i picked Enterprise, but I want it cheaper and since I am driving 12,000km in 3 weeks i'd like unlimited miles etc.. I am looking to rent in the US (Seattle) over here in Vancouver because they charge a lot more and have distance restrictions...

Hope you're having a great holiday and I am already looking forward to some good pics !

The E63 AMG fits only two large (and half empty) suitcases, the S550 we got offered only three...also half empty.

Wait until you have kids (and a wife who travels with no less than ten pairs of shoes) and we talk again. Smiley Smiley

The Escalade is quite a comfy ride and I would always prefer it over a Cayenne V6 for example...or a crappy Lincoln Navigator.

Usually, I am pretty satisfied with Hertz. Don't know what happened with them in Orlando. Pretty weird. Usually they only forgot the child booster seat (happily not needed anymore) from time to time but our Orlando experience was really bad and a similar thing happened a couple of years ago, when we actually met that Hertz exec who was regional manager at that time. I am a nice person and usually try to handle issues in a friendly manner but this time, I was really p.ss.d.

Be careful with upgrades: They offer them quite easily and you may get the feeling that it doesn't cost anything or not much but they charge quite a lot for upgrades.

I like about Hertz that I can specify the exact type of car (Gold Service, certain vehicles only) we get, so no surprises when it comes to luggage. My wife once told me to take something less expensive, so we took the largest (no luxury) SUV class and ended up with a small SUV which barely fitted three luggage pieces. Never again. Same happened to some friends with National, they were at the same time in Florida with us and got a small Nissan Rogue (two adults and two adolescent boys...the pure transportation horror). With two kids and a cranky wife (after a ten hour flight), you want everything to go down smoothly. Smiley

    Re: Porsche should be ashamed!

Sorry for hijacking this thread but I saw this little fellow too in Florida, not sure what it is but it was a pretty small snake and no real threat since it was about 2 meters away sitting on a bush, enjoying the sunlight.

I've seen many snakes in Florida but never encountered an aggressive one. So if you leave them in peace and if you are careful where you walk, you should be fine.
