BMW sells less X6 in Germany than Chrysler sells Jeep Grand Cherokees, so I guess they needed something smaller in this segment. Also the new X6 is supposed to come this year with a refined (and much better looking) back. I'm not a fan of this look, I always preferred the classic SUV look but to each his own I guess.
Also not a fan of the BMW GT series but they seem to sell somehow.

Im a huge BMW fan but I miss now the 'new'. Since couple of years it doesn't matter what car you are driving, they all look the same and the interior feels same, too. Also one reason why we didn't buy the BMW X5, the car is great but it gave us zero emotions,.... Just another BMW.
Regarding this X4 - keep in mind that this red car already has an M package..... Without it looks even more strange and boring.
I am also getting a bit lost with BMW. They are far too many models and , as said, they look too much alike . But that is a general trend with all German car makers at the moment .
The best looking BMW at the moment is the M4 .
This X4 is hideous . I have also skipped the X5 . Not enough fresh looking .

The "I" products are innovative. But X6 should be discontinued, this X4 shouldn't have made it off the drawing board and could someone explain to me the point of the 3 series GT and the 4 series grand coupe???
Agree..... I'm looking forward actually to seeing reviews of the i8 - not that I would be in that market. Maybe the 918 paves the way for less expensive hybrid or e-tech.

I saw both, the i3 and the i8, on the street. Not once, not twice but a couple of times, even from up close. You just need to drive around Munich, Garmisch or the Starnberger See (lake Starnberg), the i3 and even the i8 are all over the places. I don't like them. The i3 looks weird and the i8 looks ugly (even my son said so, it looks as if it is out of a bad SciFi movie). I never took a photo because these cars really annoy me, not because of the technology but because they are really weird/ugly looking. I am curious to see what you guys think when you actually see them up close.
Not a fan of electric cars but a Tesla Model S is a beauty compared to the BMW i models, including the interior.

I saw them at the Geneva show . It was hard to imagine them on the street as they look ( specially the i8 ) from a SciFi movie ) . The back if the i3 is ok..... we will see if I get used to the frond . The inside was interesting with bamboo wood . Made it look fresh . The inside of the i8 clashes with the outside, as too conventional compared to the outside . I do find the outside to have too many shapes . The crowed was all over this car ... so , it might appeal to the public .

The i-series are both extremely hideous. The X4 is hideous, the 3GT is hideous, the 4GC is pointless.... BMW is losing all its appeal to me if I'm honest. Almost like a second Mercedes

I saw the i3 last week, sat in it and had a close look inside and all around. The interior was rather nice, dark brown leather and natural bamboo wood. Yes, it really needs getting used to, especially the exterior, but I think it was the right decision from BMW to follow the i-series way, as it is the first consequent approach to the future of individual transportation by a German car maker. I really think we will drive this or something similar in the near future.
The secret of life is to admire without desiring.

I really do not like this x4. I have been a BMW fan for more than 20 years now and recently had 3 of them. After my 7 series lease is done I probably won't have any more BMWs. I will probably replace my 750 with a Tesla or S63AMG (I know big V8 versus electric... :)

If they had a much better looking back, why did they not use on the X4?

I too had been a fan. My concern with the new cars is the drop in quality, especially the interior of the current 3 and the current X3. Styling wise, I find the 3 and 5 (pre facelift) and 6 coupe well done; ditto the X1; however the rest of the lineup is miserable. And that includes the GC, which suffers from an oddly proportioned front in my opinion.

Actually I prefer the Aztec, thank you. It is actually starting to look good after all these years given cars like this BMW. (perhaps I was watching too much 'Breaking Bad' - which I highly recommend.)
I think you'd have to be consuming White's cooking to start liking the Aztec.

I initially liked the X6 when it was first released since it provided a fresh new take in the SUV world but I got bored of them. Seeing thousands of them in Kuwait also put me off them and now I find its proportions rather odd, particularly around that controversial backside.
That being said, I like the X4. I find the proportions and lines to be athletic and better suited to a smaller package as far as aesthetics go but I don't exactly see the point in paying for a vehicle with less practicality/style over substance. My biggest issue, however, is BMW's use of the X3 interior in an all-new vehicle. I know the X4 is based on the X3 but the covered screen and overall dash design is already dated and having it in an all-new car means that this is what we'll see for the next seven years until the next X4 debuts. They could've taken this opportunity to use the floating screen design seen on the new X5/late-model BMWs to keep things fresh.
I'm not sure what BMW is doing. Uninspired [read: ugly] designs, lazy refreshes, a questionable love of textured plastic and a conquest into every conceivable niche [4 Series Gran Coupe? 3/5 Series GTs?] isn't boding well for what the brand once stood for. The forthcoming front-wheel drive vehicles may just be the last nail in the coffin.

The X4 is an "entry level" X6. Same strategy as the X3..."entry level" X5. I don't know if the facelift gets the more attractive rear but the next generation surely will according to the blabbermouth I talked to.
