    Any official news on "standard" Cayman?

    Is Porsche producing a non-S model? Will it be for 07 ? Any details? Thanks

    I really, really want to bet on H.P. and price figures. Ok. My guess is 255 H.P. starting at $49,200.

    What a neat and tidy line up:

    Boxster: 2.7 240 bhp
    Boxster S: 3.2 280 bhp
    Cayman S: 3.4 295 bhp
    C2/C4: 3.6 325 bhp
    C2S/C4S: 3.8 355 bhp
    GT3: 3.6 415 bhp
    997TT: 3.6 480 bhp

    I would expect the Cayman to be about 2.9 litres with 255-260 bhp.

    The only 'black sheep' are the C2S X51 and the C4S X51 which develop 381 bhp. It isn't divisible by the number 5!!

    A theoretical Porsche lineup is organized in $10,000 and 30hp steps.

    987: 265hp? $50,000
    987S: 295hp $60,000
    997: 325hp $70,000
    997S: 355hp $80,000
    997S X51: 385hp $90,000
    997GT3: 415hp $100,000
    997TT: 475hp $130,000 ($10k extra for the AWD)
    997TTS: 515hp $140,000

    This is pretty logical, and we're only missing a 445hp GT3RS. Oh, and the 997S X51 is missing 4 horses while the TT managed to scrounge 5 extra ponies.

    Base Boxster should get the base Cayman engine shortly after the Cayman is introduced. The price of the Boxster will be raised to come into Cayman territory when they get the upgraded engines.

    I have it on good authority that the engine will be the 2.7 Boxster engine, but with variocam.

    "for a little more, you can have a no option version of the higher model".

    then you option that one to reasonably good spec, and your back where you started.

    It really is brilliant positioning! And, for those who have tons of money (or think they do) this marketing tool works very, very well. But, for the other customers, they really must make a decision on what is more important. A little better performance with no options or 9/10 of the fun with some goodies.

    Me? I need my special paint, full leather, NAV, PASM, etc. So, when faced with the decision, I'd take the base Boxster or base Cayman with the options.

    And this is why I LOVE Porsche. There are options for every type of sport enthusiast.

    But it's a nice round figure when you convert it to kilowatts, which is the "modern" (well, International Standards Organisation, ISO) way of quoting engine power.

    381 hp = 280 kW

    Makes sense, I guess. Right between Boxster and Boxster S in terms of price and performance. 2.7 L vs. 3.2 L engine or a new engine? 3.0? I guess we'll have to wait and see.

    Yes. Was at OPC picking up my 997C2S being serviced. Saw an internal email advising the sales(wo)men.

    Was told that the official launch will be at the end of May with sales starting July. Price is supposed to be Pounds36,880 and 245 bhp.
