    2013 Porsche Global Sales

Porsche had a very successful 2013, selling 162,195 (+14.9%) vehicles worldwide. The breakdown is as follows:

    Cayenne - 84,000+

    911 - 30,000+

    Boxster/Cayman - 25,500+

    Panamera - 20,000+

Hard to believe how Porsche has evolved in the last 10 or so years. Their 911 line is now only 38% of sales. Other higher-end car & motorcycle manufacturers are trying to emulate them. IMO, Ducati is one of them, with their Superbikes now representing a small percentage of total sales. As for Porsche, IMO many more Panameras and Cayennes are on the road here in the USA (East Coast) than 911's, by a large margin. Things must be far different in Asia, which is now a huge market for them.

    Cheers

Don't forget that Ducati is now part of Lamborghini, nee Audi, so its potential sales network has dramatically enlarged over the past year.

I see MUCH more Panamera over here then 911 , so I would of thought the number of  soled Panamera higher

The Panamera doesn't seem to sell too well anymore, the facelift hasn't received the welcome expected in my opinion. I'm not surprised. This car is impressive at first and it delivers, performance-wise but I don't see first time owners buying another Panamera again. The Panamera is too big, has four seats only, lacks an appropriate luggage room and the design is interesting (yes, it is...despite the hump) but not really stellar.

Overall, I think the Panamera had a good run but the next generation needs to be smaller (looking) with a much more refined design. It also needs five seats and a usable luggage room.

As to Boxster/Cayman sales: To be honest, I think that the Boxster sells much better than the Cayman. Believe it or not but I see at least two or three Boxster every day over here in Germany but haven't seen a single Cayman since last spring. My dealer has two new Cayman in stock and these cars are there since I ordered my 991 Turbo S back in May 2013. Unbelievable.

Ultimately yes, but Audi is the direct parent.

I expect the Audi influence to go deeper, and I'll change from BMW Motorrad to Ducati. Then I'll be 100% a VAG customer.

Therefore, even though I no longer own a Porsche, my Ducati still makes me part-of-the-family. Smiley 1

As for the sales figures I posted - they only provided what I wrote. No split between Cayman and Boxster.

I was at Porsche Zug today and they have one second hand 981 Cayman S for sale (july-2013) and a new base Cayman, both for about the same price (about CHF90k). We don't see them very much indeed... Too bad, since it's a great looking car IMO.

    OTOH, Boxster is nicer.... Smiley

In Asia, Cayennes and Panameras vastly outnumber 911s. Far more than 3:1.

I think the 911 sells best in the US and EU.

Exactly the thing I told the Porsche big wigs last time I saw them. The car looked even worse wit the LWB version as the hump looked even bad than it already it. I was told now that WW is gone the hump 'can' be massaged.

    Re: 2013 Porsche Global Sales

this is related to 2012, but i read a report in the newspaper that 80% of the cars sold buy Porsche dealer in Abu Dhabi are Cayennes and Panameras. Same applied to Dubai.

    Re: 2013 Porsche Global Sales

IMO, Porsche should abolish the Carrera 3.4 2WD that nobody buys (keep the 4WD only like in the Targa, as a toned down 911) and develop the Cayman to be a more powerful and entry level 2WD sportscar in the spirit of the 904, for those who know these classic models. To my eyes the 981C looks great and more expensive than its price.

The Panamera can attract the CLS and GranCoupe buyer (limousine with show-off factor) and in the next version with 5 seats, Estate version and more attractive styling it will be a bigger hit. Some Porsche fans prefer the Cayenne to the Panamera because of its practicality without significant sacrifice in terms of handling.

You are spot on. I wrote recently somewhere here on the forum that Porsche should get rid of base versions in their sportscars. The base 981 is seriously underpowered and IMO the base 991 is also underpowered and too close to the 981 S.

    I would prefer:

    • 981, 3.4 350hp (just one version of both Cayman and Boxster) and offer an X51 package that adds 25hp (and a badge for people that like to show off Smiley)
    • 991, 3.8 420hp and just like the 981 a X51 package, this time of 30hp incl. a badge.

No more base versions. This leaves room for a 4-cil model below the 981 (Miata/MX-5 opponent?) and gives the 981 more breathing space towards the 991.

Interesting input; in Kuwait, the most popular 911 is the base 3.4 C2. Nobody's buying the C2S anymore and the dealer is left with tons of stock on that car as many customers see it as too powerful for Kuwaiti roads. The 981 Cayman though is gorgeous and looks to be worth much, much more than what it actually is and is selling very well.

The Panamera, on the other hand, is very popular with housewives and other singles for the show-off factor but the facelift has bombed compared to the success of the first-gen model. Let's see what Porsche has planned for the forthcoming version.

My 991 is significantly quicker than my 997 S. I don't believe it to be underpowered. (especially on UK roads) It likes to play above 4500 rpm but is comfortable enough below that. That said, I'd quite like a 350bhp Boxster to supplement my 991.

I almost bought a Carrera S - but after 48 hour test drive and driving them back to back - saved a tidy sum after realising that the difference was not significant enough for me to worry. With 997 it wasn't all about the power differential - the options made the decision for you. With 991 in the UK I personally don't think it makes sense to go for the S. (at least for 2WD)
