    Yes that came into my mind also...

    And it's pretty heavy. Targa 4S is 110kg heavier than C4S coupe and 40kg heavier than C4s cab.

    However... I really, really like the way the car looks, especially in black.

    Technically complex, but very elegant, from an engineering point-of-view.

    It is on the heavy side. On the wrong place. Smiley High up and far back. But who cares when it looks this great. Smiley

    Deposit just placed. I may wait for paint to sample to become available but my dealer said that came along fairly quickly on the turbo so he thinks it may well be the same for targa.

    Many will order the Targa for its novelty value. Open top fans will choose it for its superior elegance compared to the cabrio. Moreover, 997 coupe owners who got fed up with the repetitive design might be tempted by the fresh look Targa instead of looking at other brands.

    The Targa is a unique to Porsche concept and a clever marketing move IMO.

    I know what you're saying and Im not questioning the ''targa'' concept but it's automated roof, which makes it just another cabrio to me. If they have kept the manually removable roof panels I would have no problem with it..

    The original Targa is certainly "old school"  Porsche and as iconic as the 911 itself. It certainly seems appropriate to re-introduce the Targa for the 50th anniversary of the 911.  There's also a satisfying symmetry to the use of modern technology applied to such an "old" design. Doesn't need to be everyone's cup of tea.

    Congratulations on managing to pack three points which so many others would so strongly disagree with into such a short sentence.  Smiley Smiley

    Congratulations also to whomever styled this car for being able to carry over the original style of Targa roof hoop without making the car look so ridiculously retro that it will date very quickly.  Smiley

    PS: In case it doesn't come across, the first sentence is meant to be ironic, the second is not.   Smiley
    If it isn't priced out of the market, I could see this Targa making up a larger share of total 911 production than any of its predecessors, in spite of the weight.

    Btw: That Targa strap or frame (don't know the correct name in English), wouldn't it look better in some sort of matte darker color, like gun metal or similar? I get the point of making the Targa concept more visible to the eye but I think it is too much, it kind of hurts the clean line flow of the 911.

    yeah- they should have saved the aluminum -look Targa hoop for a future " anniversary " retro edition , like all the 60's era chrome on the 911-50 model

    I prefer the matte black hoop of the 70s and 80s , like my first 911, a triple black '87 Targa

     

    Knowing Porsche, this is probably a calculated marketing scheme where the  matte black color many  ( perhaps the majority ) will want will be a $$$ option .

    I am gonna eat my words. Now that I see the real thing, I think it looks rather elegant, that Targa profile fits the 991 better than a cabrio. 

    Also wishes they would make a Turbo S Targa though. But if they do, I will have one.

    I would not get a Targa myself, but they have managed to balance moder and classic/nosltalgic look, sometimes doing this fails miserably and sometimes its a success and this is a success.

    This is going to become a very fashionable 911, I think it will attract new customers because its going to get a trendy cool sportcar image. I suspect we are going to see the Targa in movies and TV series fopr example.

    If you can get the targa arc matte black anodised then one of the stand-out PTS colours should make it a real looker. I am thinking Mexico Blue, Viper Green or Tangerine. Yeah baby! Smiley

    With a light aluminium arc the darker colours definitely suits best.

    Somehow it makes the 911 look happier and classier at the same time.kiss

    But with the sliding glass cockpit, maybe they should have added a ejection seat! indecision

    It's actually starting to grow on me.     I'm sure the targa silver bar  thing will be available in different finishes , at least a "match exterior paint" would make sense if not wanting a big contrast with the rest of the car.    The silver bar will not suit every exterior colour.

    At the very worst, one could always vinyl wrap the bar to mute it, if on the off-change Porsche does not make this into a money making opportunity to have owner-specified colors option available. 

    I keep looking at the mechanism and don't see how this system will not start to rattle after a few uses.

    The mechanism is effectively the same as the one used for the cabrio. The only "new" part is the different arms to support the targa panel. The mechanism is less likely to rattle on the targa due to the weight of the glass rear window sitting on the deck lid.

    I'll bet it rattles less that the glass sunroof option on the coupe smiley

    I totally agree about the matte black.  That photoshop proves it for me.  It looks fantastic.

    Also wondering why Porsche didn't consider making the automated panel glass as well.  It would have meshed the two Targa concepts into one.

    The roof has two seperate parts. The rear part of the roofpanel folds underneath the front part, before it is packed behind the seats. I guess that it wasn't possible to make it of glass. It's covered with the same cloth as the cabriolet-roof.

    Agreed, but  the target Targa buyer likely cares more about convenience than the slight penalty in performance due to weight.   Would you want a manual cabrio top if it saved a bit of weight and added a 10th of a second to 100km?    If you want performance just go for the coupe!!

    I would go for the achatgrau with achatgrau full leather interior Smiley

    With the rear glass and shiny targa bar, darker colors will fit better, indeed.

    Great looking car! So far does not seem like it will be offered Turbo or TurboS. The site shows only Targa4 and Targa4S.
