That 918 in black looks fantastic!

I'm still trying to decide what would be the best color on the 918, liquid metal silver, dark blue, solid black or metallic black.  I have a March 2015 build for early June delivery.

Spec details that I'm sure of:

Black leather interior with silver pipping, magnesium wheels, all interior carbon fiber package, carbon fiber roof and mirrors (regardless of exterior color)...

    Hi blufoxxx,

Congrats on ordering one of the best sports car of this generation. :)

That's near the end of production run. You sure you can wait that long? haha. Initially I had ask for a build date around those time too, but I am too excited about the car so I moved up to 2014 summer, then now again to early 2014.

Don't forget to order the axle lifter !!

That black looks blue at times and grey at others. Is it really just standard black?

Also, you can't always judge a photo to be correct. Might not look anything like that in real life. I am certain some of those highlights are way off.

    Thanks mate :)

I may move my build date to get an earlier delivery, but I would be taking a delivery of another car that would keep me entertained till the 918 arrives. I can't wait to hear your full feedback after you get you car.

I will certainly make sure to get the axle lift !

918 black in motion.jpgI'm really falling so much for the black! Can anyone identify if this is solid or metallic black

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

I am 99% sure this is metallic black, not from this particular picture but from the one showing the rear and see how it looks, my Turbo S is metallic black and when it's a bit dirty it looks exactly the same. Plus, solid black is not as reflective on the clean surfaces. The colour temperature is quite wrong on all of them but it's not too bad to identify.

@Blufoxx: apart from the lifter, you might consider adding the electric heater, as it will be the only source of heating in the car if the v8 doesn't fire up and get up to operating temperature. Also, check all the freebie options, including the ugly cup holder. Don't worry, it's removable so you don't have to have it there if you don't want to. If you don't order carbon floor mats, the one that comes with the car will be straight black with no borders, i.e. no contrasting colour edging. The painted key option is up to you, I ordered it as it will come with acid green trims on the leather carrying case to match my interior. The no cost option seat pad is an extra padding piece that goes to the outside edge of the carbon finer bucket seat. Depending on how you set your seat, when you get in you may or may not bump your ass on the hard carbon seat edge, this piece is to pad that part. Interestingly, it's an option suggested by customers, Porsche wasn't plan on doing it until a bunch of people mentioned that they want some padding there.  It's a no cost option so why not.

This car in black is just outstanding! It is the best color (IMO) to match with the acid green brakes.

Whoopsy, you must be so psyched! Can imagine the anticipation must be killing you by now!

Great find btw, been looking for black 918 photos for a while. Looks stunning, I take it this strengthens you in your decision?

    Cheers Joost

Hard to say. Dark blue metallic almost matches the reflections too. But it's just light enough that the black carbon exterior bits won't disappear so I might have to add all the exterior carbon parts.

Congrats mate! I'm in Toronto btw, maybe we will catch up sometime.

Would love to hear what color you end up going for.

Welcome from one Toronto guy to another!

I have to say the dark blue is by far my favorite colour on the car. Dark enough to get the highlights like from the black but different, subtle and really classy.I haven't heard of anyone doing bare carbon on the 918 but Whoopsy would know much better than me.

Indeed. Smiley Now this started me thinking about the color choice for my Turbo S. Maybe black would have been nice(r). Hmm. Smiley

Is it possible to spec red or yellow brake calipers instead of this acid green?

If you're willing to pay 200K for calliper color then the 918 isn't the car for you.

Just kidding, but this thing is just killing me.....If the customer who pay 1M$ for the car will kindly ask to paint the calipers in red - Porsche will refuse??? Hard to believe....

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

Any good powder coater can change the color for $150.  Removing the caliper is very easy (necessary every time you change brake pads, but you also have to disconnect the brake hose and mask the areas not to be colored like the pistons, bleed nipples and brake hose attachment point).

That would be considered a custom option that goes through the Exclusive department. Not exactly a 'factory' option.

Do you remember what his Pulitzer is for? Criticism!! He has to find faults anywhere to justify his award.

I am actually surprised he didn't say the 918 sucks because it didn't have 2 back seats, or it doesn't have 12in of ground clearance. Or it doesn't have massage function on the chairs.

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

I read both. My read on him is that he 'likes' the car, not 'loved'.

Also he got a bit of facts wrong, in electric mode both motors propel the car, not just the front.

I could probably win the Pulitzer for Criticism if I write an article criticizing his writing. But I can't be bothered.

You obviously thought that Adam was referring to your comment when using the expression "painfully dumb", when in fact he meant the string of comments from others under the article in the WSJ's web site, so your feeling of being affronted by Adam's post was totally misplaced.

Pulitzer Prize for auto journalism -- the lowest form of journalism there is. I mean, come on, auto journalism is like a mad lib. Just fill in the date and the car name. They never have anything new to say about anything.

No offense to any auto journalist here ;)
