    Tubi System Roars To Life...

    Just finished the install with manifolds and mufflers - kept the stock cats. What a beautiful system, and the sound brings me a smile from ear-to-ear! Here's a couple of pics of the Tubi compared to stock components, I still need to snap a few 'after' photos - I ran out of daylight. Would recommend hihgly to anyone considering a swap; welds and fit are top-notch, and install is pretty easy.

    O.K, you know this request is coming...see if you can post a sound file please. I have just been following the thread on the PSE 'on all the time' thread and a number of posters say doing the mods to keep it on all the time might damage the system. Too bad because it sounds great on all the time without that annoying cut-out period. (would love to know the compete story from Porsche engineer why they did that...it sucks). But, if it turns out that the mod does indeed cause damage, the aftermarket options might prove the better choice for those contemplating a nice sounding exhaust system.

    Tried to get a local Porsche performance shop to do a chassis dyno run before/after, but was told the electronics in the car would diminish the power output due to the rear wheel spinning while the fronts weren't. Don't know if it's true or not, but I haven't seen much of anyone else posting dyno runs here either.

    Tubi Italy claims +30 hp on their website; I can't tell for sure, but the car definitley feels stronger. Regardless, the sound alone would do it for me - it has that old-fashioned raspy sound under acceleration and the "between-gear-gurgles" that are like a 6-cylinder symphony to me.

    Why does anyone change the stock system to a PSE? Porsche claims no hp change, so the obvious answer is SOUND. Have you not seen the variety of messages on this board relating to exhaust system changes - AWE, Fabspeed, Tubi, etc? Am I missing something in your question?

    There is no comparison between Tubi and AWE. Tubi is more of a sound uprade with little performance gains. The AWE full system will set you back about $4500 but it will get you +39HP which is one of the best gains available for the 997.

    Not quite true. Straight from Tubi Italy website -

    "TUBI STYLE 997 CARRERA S SPORT SYSTEM

    Starting month of June, the sport exhaust system for Porsche 997 models is available. The system, composed by sport exhaust and manifold set, has been developed with our US Partner Champion Motorsport. With dyno testing we had increase in power of more than 30 hp compared to OE system, keeping original catalyst."

    There is no way the AWE exhaust produces that much of a power increase. Sorry, your dillusional if you believe it. I'm not picking on AWE, it may be one of the best performing ones, but any power gains would be minimal.

    Those silly Porsche engineers changing all those parts on the X51 upgrade, when they could have just changed the EXHAUST!, and gained more. Again, those dumb Porsche guys considering all their R&D, only got 415 out of the 3.6l 997 GT3, when they could have added an AWE and surpassed the tt.
    Give me a break, if you buy an aftermarket exhaust for a n/a 997, do it for the sound, aesthetics - and the, poossibility, of a performance gain.

    Power gain or no power gain sounds absolutely awesome... IMO

    What about the warranty, is it affected?

    Usually with warranty issues the manufacturer has to prove/believe that the item in question directly contributed to the problem.
    AWE sound bite to follow?

    There's bound to be some increase, but you really need to add an ECU flash, preferably tuned to the specific exhaust (and intake if you happen change that too) to get the most from the new found flow.

    In regards to the headers, I've been paying attention to the collector length when researching the different products. PSI's exhaust not only has the longest collectors, but the tubing is 70mm. Theoretically this could translate to more horsepower, but it may weigh a bit more as well (I don't know the weight comparison figs). The cats are also "X-patterned" which eleminates resonance and provides better sound.

    Another system that looks good to me is the Cargraphic. Same tubing diameter as stock, but has long collectors and also has "X-piped" catalytics.

    Improving sound is great and all, but if I'm going to spend the extra cash to get it, I might as well get as much extra power as I can

    I'm just curious since you had the two mufflers out side by side, did you had a chance to weight each of them to see if there was a weight advantage with the tubi exhaust?

    Tubi claims close to 30 lbs. less than stock. I too am curious as to an actual weight.

    I didn't weigh them - I figured my el cheapo bathroom scale wouldn't be very accurate. I can tell you there was a very noticeable difference between the Tubi and stock - I'd estimate each of the Tubi mufflers to be at least 10 lbs. lighter.

    With the supposedly slight reduction in rear wt, were you able to notice any difference on cornering or on the track?
