Weird that I think none of us here has a P1 on order.

We know Futch has a LaFerrari coming, and me and I think a couple others had order the 918.

I have a close friend who has a 918 coming, and will drive at the event on the 21st. He lives in northern California and has other fabulous cars arriving soon. He often tracks his cars so may be a fun guy for you to meet sometime. Send me a PM if you want his name for future reference...

    Have fun!

And the big news from today smiley :

ATLANTA, Nov. 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Shortly before delivery of the first vehicles, the Porsche 918 Spyder is beating its own benchmark values. Marking the success of the final tuning measures, the Porsche super sports car is now even more capable of putting in a strong sprinting performance. The vehicle now accelerates from zero to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds (-0.2 seconds), and with the Weissach package, it accelerates from zero to 124 mph on the track in 7.2 seconds (-0.5 seconds). It reaches the 186 mph mark after 19.9 seconds (-2.1 seconds) on the track.

Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser, Senior Vice President 918 Spyder, highlights the significance of these results: "We have used all options available up to now to electrify the 918 Spyder, working right up to the last minute to do so."

The enhancements also bring benefits in terms of the electrical performance delivered by the hybrid super sports car. The electric motors (one each on the front and rear axles) allow the 918 Spyder to accelerate from zero to 62 mph in 6.2 seconds, without producing any emissions. Such a performance marks a reduction of seven tenths of a second on the previous time. With the Weissach package fitted, this electric sprinting time is reduced to 6.1 seconds.

The 918 Spyder complete with Weissach package currently holds the lap record for road vehicles on the Nurburgring Nordschleife, boasting a time of 6:57 minutes. Final U.S. EPA fuel economy estimates will be available closer to launch.

From the McLaren and Ferrari front,it seems all words and little action so far, whereas Porsche seems to be bossing it.Looking forward to the time when they play the few aces still on their sleeves(i.e. increased bhp/new 'Ring time and so on)

    Very impressive.

    RC:

@BjoernB: I don't know who you knew in the CGT convoy but most of the participants wanted to keep it private, incl. the driver of the 918 (who works for Porsche...now I said it). If one or two drivers don't care, well...this is probably why the video and other photos made the internet. I know for a fact that at least one owner isn't too pleased about that.

I am sorry but we can respect privacy if we try but if someone thinks that information is more important than privacy and that CGT owners shouldn't be surprised if their license plates are viewed by millions of people, then I wonder why so many of you actually care about privacy at all. Let's just post our home address and phone numbers in the forum and let the fun begin.

    Speaking about privacy...

Now this is the Festspiele Bregenz with their current performance "Die Zauberflöte" from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart:

Maybe a bit cheesy this pic. Smiley

This opera is shown at the Festspielhaus Bregenz, directly located at the Lake Constance (beautiful place BTW):

    festspielhaus_luft.jpg

In both pics you can see the big empty space in front of the Festspielhaus.

On a warm and sunny day, like the last late summer weekend for example, this very place looks more like this:

    Or this:

    Or maybe this:

So there's a lot of space and many people strolling around:

    festspielhaus.jpg

Well, the following pic was taken last Sunday at the very same place:

Now let's talk about privacy again. Smiley

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

I wonder why they published >7 for 0-200. Me and another person were told by different person on different events for the under 7 figure.  Maybe Porsche is still sand bagging still?

Now that it's official, for such 'fat pig', the numbers are mightily impressive to say the least.

I'm guessing in real life It will be faster than P1 and LaF from 0-200 kmh.

I can't see any damage yes

Take a look at the first pic..

    Hello and welcome. Smiley Smiley

Porsche felt pressure from the competition and of course from their own leadership. So they tried to improve the 918 and the did. I also think that further improvements are possible (and will be done) along the way.

I see many 918 driving around on a daily basis, I don't see (if any Smiley) La Ferrari or P1 driving around, not even for media events. Smiley Also judging by the 918's price tag, it is more and more obvious that the 918 is actually a bargain compared to the competition.

Not a bargain when 918 prices will be 40% lower after 4 years whereas the P1 and LaFerrari will be mostly unchanged...

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

"Not a bargain when 918 prices will be 40% lower after 4 years whereas the P1 and LaFerrari will be mostly unchanged."

SciFrog, you may be right, but I would like to read other views about comparative values.  My sense is that LaFerrari may hold its " monetary value" better, but only because it is a "collector" car available only to a select group, and it will be driven rarely if at all.  (Futch may have an informative view on this, so I do not want to overstate an impression).  The P1?  Not at all sure it will hold its value better than the 918.

My sense is that most 918 buyers will use their cars much more, and there is real value in that driving experience.  Value is not just monetary, as with any luxury purchase.  To state it differently, enjoyment plus monetary residual equals full and real value.

And even comparing residual monetary value only, I am not sure the 918 will lose the 40% you state.  Maybe in the short term, but beyond that initial "depreciation" period, the 918's monetary value will likely regain or even exceed all monetary ground.  I would like to hear views about CGT current values, which may be an indication.

Moreover, most wealthy buyers probably don't --as hard as it is for me to understand--really care about initial depreciation.  They buy, they enjoy

i welcome comments, since my views are only "hunches".

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

CGT trade in the high 300s low 400s... but prices propped up mostly because of the high price of the 918...

But hey, I agree with you, if you have the ammo, go for it... I drive my cars as much as possible, my 612 has 25k miles...

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

Thank you for the welcome RC Smiley

Hope to get involved in nice and fun discussions with you all

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the US MSRP for the Carrera GT around 440 grand when it was new?If so,we can't really say it lost 40 percent of its value, right?
