Titanium roof. Is that a first in cars instead of carbon fiber? I know that carbon roofs make the interior very hot compared to metal.

Besides that what are the benefits of titanium vis a vis carbon? Any materials engineers here?

Could the racing regulations require a metal roof?  Otherwise, I would expect Ti roof to be even more expensive to make than CF with no apparent benefit.

BTW, I work across the street from a museum whose entire outer skin is made from Ti (was donated by the manufacturer for a low price)homestheticsnetDenverArtMuseum.jpg

Yep, the architect supposedly was inspired by a folded napkin on an airplane.

    Blame this guy:  http://daniel-libeskind.com/projects--

Same guy is architect for replacement of world trade center tower at ground zero in nyc.

Back on Gt3 RS topic , as it is all I want to hear .smiley

Those specs would be fantastic !!!!!  And it would  make the car very special !

Just.... would it be missing the RWS ???  would that be a minus vs the normal Gt3 and the turbo S ?

Is the delivery realistic ? We have not seen the car yet . GT3 was in Geneva (  march ) and is still not delivered

we need HvS to try it as soon as possible to see how it feels at the limit indecision

I bet if it's 4.0L, it will exceed 500hp (I would guess around 530hp actual, if 3.8L version is really already dyno'ing over 500hp).

    Re: 991GT3 RS latest rumors

Without RWS ? That's weird, though the homologation answer could be right...unless RWS can be substituted easily in any dynamics equation, it would be a strange idea, if P. develops two directions to go for the GT3 / GT3 RS concept, wouldn't it ? I thought, that the RWS was one of the substantial new features for the GT3 to make it faster etc...

    Re: 991GT3 RS latest rumors

    Hallo guys,

so,he call me from the car, they  are coming back from a meet, where i think they talk of product of next year.

he tell me if the launch will be in June,And if i confirm my preorder for sure i will have the car by that time,so i think press embargo will be early next year and maybe the car at Geneva.

he tell me PDK,nothing about manual, but i made no question due i prefer PDK.

i ask for colours or decals, but he tell me he know nothing about.

i think will be something special,And i'm happy he call me to tell me these news,i really appreciate it,is the first time it happen.

Without RWS it does not need the hydraulic actuators only the PDK package provides!  Manual would be less of a problem.

    Re: 991GT3 RS latest rumors

Ah...about titanium roof, well maybe i understand wrong, but he tell me that,And then talking he tell again that there will be lighter parts...so don't know much but..

Beautiful building and the sculpture compliments it very nicely, especially compared to the tipped- over clothes iron Brutalist styled Porsche  Museum :

    Re: 991GT3 RS latest rumors

Guys, architecture is not always easy to understand for everybody and since my father-in-law is an arhitecture professor, I started to learn a little bit about this stuff.  Daniel Liebeskind extension of the Denver Art Museum looks amazing, so does the Porsche Museum. You would be surprised how many people opposed the Guggenheim Museum in NYC, especially since FL Wright initially planned a flashy color for the museum.

I love modern arhitecture but I'm afraid most people don't. A look in most people's houses tells the story, people prefer heavy stuff, wood, natural looks and old fashioned furniture. Not a fan. I love minimalistic interiors with a lot of white and god forbid too many, if any, things on the walls.

To make it short: Different folks, different tastes.

Right now, dealers can't tell much. I suppose Dario's dealer just told him the usual gossip. Titanium roof? Hmm, never heard of that. Titanium exhaust? Yes, very likely. Smiley  Car was supposed to be available in March 2014 but I guess with all that GT3 delay... Smiley

RWS is achieved with electric motors and threaded rods.  I think the new active LSD is the part that runs hydraulics and was used as the scapegoat to explain that manual gearbox is not possible now.

The electric RWS was also the reason given for increasing the size of the battery.  So, the RS should be able to use a little Lithium battery, as with the 997 RS.

Yes early next year. Matches the message from by dealer last week that I posted on the GT3 thread. My dealer said they will have the details on the RS early next year.

thanks Grant!  I got all the tech confused!!!  How will these cars ever last 50 years like the original ones?

    Re: 991GT3 RS latest rumors

I don't get it anymore....- I don' t see the TTS being challenged - why don't they just build a lightweight Turbo S and call it a RS ? enlightened

An option that screams performance without adding much technical advantage but making more money for porsche? no, surely there wont be such a thing in the 911 options list.

There seems to be a certain hierarchy in the Porsche model range, a hierarchy carved in stone by the upper management. I would love to see a 991 Turbo RS or 991 Turbo GTS at some point but it would surely hurt GT3/RS/GT2RS sales.

Just imagine: A 991 Turbo RS/GTS with 50 hp more power and 50 kg less weight. I would call it the +/- 50 formula. Smiley

In my opinion, the model range is too confusing and too big.

    I would offer a 991 Carrera S/Cab, a 991 Carrera 4S/Cab, a 991 Targa (2WD), a 911 GT3, a 991 GT3 RS, a 991 Turbo S/Cab and a 991 Turbo RS or GTS.

    Re: 991GT3 RS latest rumors

I would agree with you - quite frankly I like lightweight cars and naturally aspirated engines - but now dealing with a lot of HP & torque on the back tires in the GT2 - 4wd makes total sense angry - so why not using this wonderful platform(s) and mix it with the best of both worlds ? I am sure they would find 100 kgs on a TTS and give it 40hp more and it would probably be the "safest" fun car on public roads

I sometimes do not understand Porsche's model policy at all.

Why would the 991 Turbo S not be a good track car? This whole differentiation between Carrera, GT models and Turbo models will bite them in the ass sooner or later and it actually started to do so.

I would rather want to see a Carrera S, a Carrera GTS and a Carrera RS instead.

Same goes to the Turbo models: A Turbo S, a Turbo GTS and maybe even a Turbo RS.

I would love to join a strategy meeting at Porsche where they discuss/decide on future models and their (required) features. Yes, they cannot use all arrows in their quiver, they need some stuff left for facelifts, I get it but still...

This is why we were discussing a possible weight reduction. 100 kg should suffice, a possible GT2 RS won't be lighter.
