    Re: Singer!

+1 Singer.  Turbo S is a great  911 with comfort, performance , safety and reliability that you can daily drive. Singer is a highly emotional package that brings back the vintage 911 character with modern engineering  . I think the two are not comparable in terms of purchase motivation .

    Re: Singer!

Buying a genuine classic is one thing, buying a retro-car is something else. I'd rather have a Porsche Classic fully restored 2.2 S than this (excuse my word frown) anomaly angry

    Re: Singer!

I like modern technology where it doesn't impinge on the analogue feel of driving.  So tyres, construction, materials, suspension performance, engine performance/economy, safety levels, etc of moderns car are wonderful.  Where technology takes away the feel of driving I dislike it (EPAS is the biggest culprit here and the electronic handbrake annoys me).  PDK is great technology but divisive so manual transmission and PDK should remain a choice.  I really dislike "fashion" spoiling engineering sense (20" wheels step forward) and I want a car to be as light as possible so pointless electrics/electronics, gizmos, unnecessary size etc. spoil it for me.  Alas Porsche are drifting a long way from what I like.  The Singer conversely does marry old and new pretty well; for me its the best car on sale.  But If Porsche did a small lightweight like the Lotus Exige/Alfa 4C (Flat 6, 300-350bhp, 1000-1100kg)  but with their fabulous drive train, quality, integrity and blend of performance/comfort I would be first in the queue.

    Re: Singer!

If Singer Vehicle Design wanted a challenge they could manufacture an analogue car, as you say you enjoy and give it their own body design.

Exploiting a 50 year old classic design in order to generate sales is what I don't like.

I bet that if the 911 classic shape wasn't tampered with and falsified, no one would have noticed their brand of vehicles.

Exploiting?  Seems harsh.  Enhancing or spoiling depending on your point of view

    Re: Singer!

Do they have a license from Porsche to use the iconic shape? If not, it is like intellectual property theft, morally at least if not by law.

    Re: Singer!

Everybody needs a carbon fiber bodied 911.Smiley The good news is someone is actually making it and even better someone here bought one. Futch obviously doesn't consult maiden Aunts on what car to buy.Smiley  So what if the Singer is done on a 964 chassis? Those were extremely well built and safe cars in their day, the CF panels now make it safer.  The talk about that the car being potentially "unsafe" compared to a "modern"car is absolute total rubbish. Safety features and design are relative. You want to be "safe"? Own a 991?  Sell it and get a Mercedes S class. Get a grip ladies.

    Re: Singer!

Reginos, with all due respect you are talking nonsense. If your rule applied then the likes of Gemballla and Ruf would be far more guilty of what you cite as intellectual property theft. Singer is a tiny operation compared to those two and have only made a handful of cars thus far. They are selling a homage to the 911 and not purporting to be doing anything else. I would imagine that Porsche are flattered that there are companies like Singer who are keeping the 911 legacy alive and well. Many top car designers own and drive cars exactly like this including the guy at Bugatti who owns a heavily modified early 911.

There are plenty of companies doing similar things with other "classics" such as the E type Jaguar, MGB, Jensen Interceptor etc. You really seem to completely miss the point of what buyers of these cars are looking for. They crave a car that is truly limited, has non generic styling, stands out in a crowd yet marries modern technology to make them more liveable with on a daily basis. You may value the latest tech wrapped up in a German box that compromises itself to have the broadest appeal possible but not everyone conforms with your ideas of the perfect car and the motoring landscape is all the richer for that IMHO.

    Re: Singer!

ISUK, thank you for your clarifications. Coming from you they are all the more credible    wink

BTW Gemballa, I wouldn't look at twice but some of the RUF cars are interesting.

    Re: Singer!

This is worth watching to see the passion behind the Singer and understand why they felt they wanted to build it. You have to admire their dedication, patience, perseverance and attention to detail kiss This car is so much more than just a tuned 911.

Interesting project. I didn't know anything about Rob Dickinson's background and  career and that he was British!

    Re: Singer!

Because of my age and driving style, I never like the classic/old cars, BUT Singer is being a big exception.

I'm not a big 911 fan but the reworked 964 Singer cars are beautiful. I can see the huge desire to the car and it is the most beautiful 911 yet, inside & out. The work that has been done inside and modern touches on the car (xenon lights, retractable spoiler, leather work, more powerful engines etc) are just awesome.

If I had interet in classic 911, I would have buy one and would like to keep it forever. It is so timeless and looks rock solid. kiss

    Re: Singer!

If the car would be a bit more reasonably price I would buy it as a keeper to my garage for those occasional days.

The build is outrages and the car is just sooo stunning beautiful. Also - its a car you have to drive and not a car where you are driven!

Exactly. I would love to own both...or all three (incl. the 991 GT3). Smiley
