So 7.42 is on 'sport tyres'. What is a 996TTS doing with the similar tyres?

A stock 996TT with 420 bhp does 7:56. So, with X73 suspension, optional LSD (which WAS available for the 996TT) and X50, equipped with Michelin PSCs, I don't see a problem with it reaching a similar time.

    I agree.

The 997 Turbo isn't much (if any) of a performance increase over an X73/X50/LSD 996 Turbo. And you can add a few relatively cheap mods to the 996 Turbo, and it's no question a faster car than the 997 Turbo.

Well, I have to disagree. Suspension and LSD won't help signifacally ring time. Tyres will a lot. Maybe down to 7:48. But then again if you took a standard M3, change suspension and fit it with racing slicks it will also beat the TT. Cup tyres times are worthless, so we should be looking at 7:56 vs 7:49 (still to confirm) as performance increase

Not if Porsche equips the 997 Turbo with the same or better tires.

I disagree. A stock GT2 did 7:46 on the Ring. This was a combination of 100 kg less weight, more power and better suspension with LSD. It does not seem unlikely to me that the Turbo S/X50 with a better suspension and LSD could match the stock 997TT time.

Re: Porsche claims 7.42 at NBR for 997 tt

I read an (very short)interview of Wolfgang Dürheimer(chief of the R&D departement) and he said that the 997 Turbo had to be atleast 7 seconds quicker aroud the NBR than the 996 Turbo.

I can post scan. It's in French.

Re: Porsche claims 7.42 at NBR for 997 tt

Was the 7:42 achieved by a standing a flying start?

For a car that is relatively heavy, usable and luxurious, that's an impressive time.

Re: Porsche claims 7.42 at NBR for 997 tt

Exzactly BC, Porsche is my first choice. I do have a gallardo, but I'm still die-hard porsche. Every time i get out of the gallardo and in the turbo, i realized just how much its' my first choice. And its' even a galardo se. Ferrari is nice, but where i live/my age it is just too much, even if it wasn't too much I'd only get a ferrari, AFTER i had my 997tt. I'll take my turbo anyday. Everyday driver, reliability, looks, speed, sound, everything. just period amazing. In no do i consider my porsche a substitute for a ferrari or any other car on the planet. Whats funny is, does anyone ever consider a substitue for porsche? is there one?
