IF YOU RECALL THE LAST FEW YEARS' THREADS WE RENT A TRUCK, MY WIFE FLIES IN. SOMEHOW BACK IN 1994, WE DID MALIBU-MONTANA AND BACK WITH BOTH OF US AND TWO LABS - SURF AND SANDY IN A 1992 C2S CAB. I CANT REMEMBER HOW......

Interesting. We actually plan something similar next year. My wife and daughter fly to Sardinia and me and my son follow in my 991 Turbo S (at some point, we need to take the ferry in Genova). Kind of a short father/son trip.

Great photos. Wonderful story! This is how a 911 should be used. Enjoyed very much the photos. Have been to Montana few times (Bozeman,Ennis,Yellowstone) , memorable places.

When I saw the thread's title " Sun's last run" & " End of an era", I really feared something may have happened to Sun..
So glad that isn't the case...
Well John, it looks like his last run, he's had days where he founders on his rear legs. We did an MRI and he has six damaged discs but not surgically repairable, and the surgeon told us he had Lou Gehrigs disease which thankfully is not true! Our hikes have shrunk
to two miles, and i carry a long sleeved shirt in case i have to support his rear legs home... So likely this was our swan song run. I was in tears on the trail on bad days. Like here at Tony Grove the the Bear River Range of Northern Utah. But it passes, he lives in the moment which is a lesson for all of us. I love him so.

sounds fab, my only comment is the gnawing worry i had with the centerlocks on my turbo s, even though I carried the tools as i mentioned in the "run" thread two years ago.... maybe your dealers are closer, but if i order the new turbo s, i will get the lug wheels for peace of mind out in the weeds, on the dirt. The 4wd sure is fun in the mud!

This sounds so sad, I am sorry to hear this. 
I am glad you enjoyed the trip and I hope Sun did too.
Regarding the new center locks, I've been assured that there are no further issues (actually my question surprised a few people because they really think the CL problem doesn't exist anymore, despite the maintenance instructions for the new GT3). I understand however that you don't go for them, I was actually thinking about the same but mostly because of the cost of the additional winter wheel set I need and which is quite expensive (close to 7k EUR).

Are you saying the centerlocks can now be removed with common tools at any tyre store? I have heard you still need special tools.

You still need a special wrench but I think it is much cheaper now and much easier too since the required force is much lower. I may get some details in a couple of weeks but maybe someone finds out earlier with the new GT3 coming in soon (first customer cars are expected end of August, beginning of September).

This is a very touching story Watt! The pictures are beautiful and you are right, many people worry so much about yesterday and tomorrow that they can't enjoy the present moment ... I'm glad you had such a nice trip with Sun.

Wonderful story. Sun is one lucky dog. He has had a life very few dogs have experienced. I am sure if Sun could speak he would say, "Don't you feel sorry for me. I could not have asked for a better life. When its time it is time. I am ready".

these cars are so fabulous and so timeless, im reminded of Fritz' comment last year about my son running my gt3 into the garage wall at age 7 and just a few weeks ago, i was cringing in the passenger seat as he drillied the 991 up Las Flores Canyon in Malibu! Time rolls on.
19,000 miles on this 991 and there seems to be no reason for change. I havent put these type of miles on a car since our 92 c2 cab with 47,000 including cross country trips with Surf and Sandy (wife flying) and aforementioned montana, as well as entire coast of California trips with 2 people and 2 Labs.....
