    OFFICIAL: Porsche 911 50 Year Edition (2013)

VERY well done by porsche ! I love it. The details look so retro and so modern at the same time. IMO it would be a jewel to any Porsche collector. so tastefully done by Porsche.

    Porsche 911 50 Years Edition

Porsche is celebrating a special anniversary of the 911 sports car at the 2013 International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt with a commemorative 50 Years Edition - half a century since the iconic coupé made its debut in the German city. Appropriately, the special model will be limited to 1,963 cars.

In 1963, Porsche presented the original model to the public. Since this first announcement - initially as the type 901 - the 911 has excited automotive fans across the globe. Porsche will unveil the limited edition model to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the 911 at the IAA in Frankfurt, which opens its doors to the public on 12 September, 2013.

Like the first coupé, the Porsche 911 50 Years Edition combines a distinctive silhouette with a rear-mounted, flat-six engine and rear wheel drive. Yet its efficient performance, active sports suspension and exclusive body styling add contemporary appeal. Over seven successive generations, the Porsche 911 continues to resolve apparent contradictions - such as between tradition and innovation and performance and efficiency - andhas become renowned as the quintessential benchmark sports car.

This special anniversary 911 is based on the 911 Carrera S, but is clothed in the wider body - 44 mm broader across the rear wheel arches - that is typically reserved for the all-wheel drive Carrera 4 models. The unique exterior styling is combined with features that have contributed to the 50-year success story of the car. For example, the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), with special tuning to complement the increased track width, adds to the exceptional cornering dynamics. The car also features a sports exhaust system for increased emotional character.

Powered by a 400 hp 3.8-litre flat-six engine, the 911 50 Years Edition sprints from 0-62 mph in 4.5 seconds (4.3 secs with PDK) and can reach a top speed of 186 mph (185 mph with PDK). The NEDC Combined fuel consumption is 29.7 mpg (32.5 mpg with PDK), which equates to CO2 emissions of 224 g/km (205 g/km with PDK).

For the US market, the 911 50th Anniversary Edition will be equipped as standard with a Powerkit, which increases engine performance to 430 hp and includes the Sport Chrono Package.  The 911 50th Anniversary Edition sprints from zero to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds (3.8 with PDK) and can reach a top speed of 186 mph (185 with PDK). The limited edition models will be available at Porsche dealers this fall and will be priced from $124,100, not including a $950 destination charge.

Giving a clear indication to the rear-mounted location of the flat-six power plant are bespoke chrome strips on the fins of the engine compartment grille. These are complemented with special trims on the front air inlets, and in a strip across the car between the rear lights. A further contemporary interpretation of 911 leitmotifs are the unique five-spoke cast alloy wheels whose style has been inspired by the so-called 'Fuchs' wheels, a legendary rim that was in fact a Porsche design and first fitted to the 911 in 1966. The new 20-inch diameter wheels are finished in matt black paint with machine-polished centres.

Two unique colours are available for this anniversary 911; a darker Graphite Grey and a lighter Geyser Grey metallic. Black is also available. Each of the cars has a '911 50' badge finished in two-tone 3D-style on the rear lid, which is repeated in three-colour embroidery on the head restraints and as a two-colour logo on the rev counter and the aluminium door sill plates. It is also displayed on the passenger side fascia strip together with the limited edition number of the individual vehicle.

Other exterior characteristics of the special model are high-gloss window frames and SportDesign exterior mirrors. A technical highlight is the Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS), which adds a dynamic cornering function to the already standard-fit Bi-Xenon headlights.

Inside, there are further styling touches reminiscent of the original 911 such as green labelling on the instruments with white pointer needles and silver caps on the instrument pivot pins. Another special feature are the centre panels of the leather seats, which are designed with a fabric pattern that evokes the 'Pepita' tartan design from the 1960s. The leather interior can be specified in Agate Grey or Black with decorative stitching. Sports seats with 14-way adjustment are standard, with 18-way Sport Seats Plus available as an option. The gear shift or selector lever - which, like the decorative panels on the dashboard, doors and centre console, is trimmed in brushed aluminium - comes from the Porsche Exclusive custom tailoring programme.

In the UK and Ireland the Porsche 911 50 Years Edition is priced from £92,257. First right-hand drive deliveries will arrive in September 2013.

In Germany, the price will be 121,119 EUR including 19% VAT and country-specific features.

    Very nice indeed!

Re: Porsche 911 50 Year Edition

    Nice one.

Re: Porsche 911 50 Year Edition

I can see the ghost of Ferry Porsche, wearing his heavy tweed sport jacket, driving it around Stuttgart. It should have been the narrow body car, though,  if they are going retro, to match the original silver centered Fuchs. I do like the green gauges, a vintage touch that Ruf has used for a long time.

From a vintage  homage standpoint though, I think the 70s look 2010 997 Sport Classic ,  looked cooler  ,  with its ducktail,  expensive woven interior leather and black near identical 70s style Fuchs better matched to the modern wide body.

Re: Porsche 911 50 Year Edition

I like the 991 body shape. I prefer it's wider stance and especially the lower roof line. The only thing that prevents me from being complete besotted is the upward sloping front. To my eyes, it makes the front (nose) look sharpish and "week" in relation to the wider body.

Re: Porsche 911 50 Year Edition

It looks good. I like the way they have done the back vents and changed the strip . I like the rims too.

The colors are interesting but I would like to see both tones.

The price does not seem silly like they did with the sports classic.

    kiss

Re: Porsche 911 50 Year Edition

The colours and retro look good overall. I really like the chrome strips on the rear air vents. However, I thought they would at least put some engine enhancement, a la powerkit, to set it apart performance wise.

At least they did not add a stupid price

Re: Porsche 911 50 Year Edition

Retro without being a caricature of older models. The chrome strips on the grille are well done. They allude to the early 911s but they are still modern.

Porsche should have added the X51 as standard, to make this car more special, and charge below the normal price for it, say another 5.000-6.000 EUR to keep the price below 100.000 EUR.

Re: Porsche 911 50 Year Edition

I’m going to go out a limb right now, but to my eyes, this is currently the nicest looking 911 on sale.

Re: Porsche 911 50 Year Edition

I would have made 911 cars of this special edition with the GT3 engine (maybe 460 hp instead of 475, not taking the thunder from the GT3 too much) and GT3 PDK for 160k EUR flat. This would have been a true anniversary model and I bet it would have sold pretty well.

I agree, this is a very nice looking car but I kind of miss the "special" part about it. Yes, the retro styled seats, rims, etc. but still...we are talking 50 years 911 here... yes

Or even better: 50 cars of this with the previous GT3 RS 4.0 Mezger engine, manual and 490 hp for 250k EUR flat.

You get my point...something special for a very special anniversary.

I visit a german Porsche forum on a regular basis and usually 40% are owners of older Porsche models and always criticize newer models for whatever reasons, 40% are actually owners of other cars and love to provide their (sometimes) absolutely weird opinion about Porsche cars and only 10% or so are actual owners of newer models but a serious discussion is almost impossible because the others, who often don't have a clue about certain Porsche models (or haven't driven them), make stupid comments. So I am not surprised at all.

Re: Porsche 911 50 Year Edition

Despite my dislike for retro styling and retro touches in general, I must say, very well done.

Re: Porsche 911 50 Year Edition

Well done Porsche!! I like it a lot!!

And yes, it lacks a bit of more power.

BTW, i love the wheels!! Will they be available on standard models? Hope so...

    wink

I suspect the GT3 engine and PDK-S are quite expensive. Apparently Porsche didn't want to make the price prohibitive but to easily sell all their 1963 units. However, they could have at least included the Powerkit as standard and lift the price a bit.

These wheels have been shown on 991 Turbo Exclusive program, so I guess it will be available for all 911

Re: Porsche 911 50 Year Edition

I like the looks and the way they implemented the retro elements.

However, for the 50 years edition, I had somehow expected something truely amazing. Even the sportsclassic, -which was a really weird exercise in being different but not necessarily more beautiful-  was more special: special body kit, special roof, special exhaust tips, powerkit if I recall correctly.

So, yes the 50 jahre edition is in line with the 40 jahre and the 30 jahre editions, and it's really looking good imo, but I had expected something more special...

Looks good. Nice color, really amazing interior with pepita. Widebody suits the Carrera very well.

Don't like the high glos swindow frames. Chrome isn't something I missed on cars.

Price is high... Make it €6k more and add the power kit (430hp), then it would be perfect. Though I think they leave some room for the GTS...

Re: Porsche 911 50 Year Edition

    What is the grey color??

Re: Porsche 911 50 Year Edition

Darker Graphite Grey with a custom Oxblood red interior (like the old car in pictures) would be great choice for a 991 turbo SSmiley

For some reason, the powerkit is included in the US market at $124k.

Re: Porsche 911 50 Year Edition

How have these "Special Edition" cars held their value?  Any guess about this edition's depreciation potential?

Re: Porsche 911 50 Year Edition

    Wonderbar:

How have these "Special Edition" cars held their value?  Any guess about this edition's depreciation potential?

Nowadays, it is pretty difficult to predict this. Especially since Porsche tends to offer special edition options like colors or rims on the regular versions too after a while, minus the 911.50 logos of course.

Speaking of: A guy I know over here in my town owns a 911 Sport Classic (997). He made the mistake to not register the car when he bought it and now it is too late, he cannot register it anymore because it doesn't meet the environmental requirements for a new car. Apparently there is no way around it since his car doesn't fall into a classic car exception category because it is too young. So for now, he can drive this car only with temporary license plates but he cannot register it, which kind of makes it almost worthless. Smiley
