Very valuable information. Electrically folding side mirrors are totally useless anyway... Smiley

Do you live in a different part of German reality than I do? I see ripped off driver side mirrors at least twice a week. Our streets are not as wide as in the US and sometimes there isn"t much room left to parked cars. Electric foldable mirrors are a must for cars over here, unless of course you prefer to do this manually. I prefer the button.Smiley

Ah c'mon, that's bullshit. You see ripped off driver side mirrors at least twice a week?

The folding side mirrors are very useful on certain cars . Here it does help to avoid them being broken by passing cars in narrow streets. But on the 991 they look silly, as they do not fold, they just look up to the sky !!

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

    hahahaha

But actually I agree, folding side mirrors usually don't narrow the vehicle that much anyway, it's only a tiny difference.

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

@Rossi: Yes, at least twice a week. I drive my cars, I don't look at them like others, despite the excellent vision sharpness.  broken heart

Speaking of the very wide rear, this is actually a good point  but the mirrors on other cars are usually positioned higher.

My mother found the Mini with a ripped off mirror a couple of weeks ago, the whole thing costed her almost 500 EUR.

I actually NEVER heard in my life that someone would order foldable mirrors to impress neighbors, my neighbors would certainly not be impressed and they drive Audi and Volkswagen.

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

I always fold my mirrors inward when I park, and would not buy a car without them.

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

I fold the road side mirror, always. But it doesn't have to be motorized. On my Q5 they came with motor, but I wouldn't bother to order them like that. On my previous Mercedes ML they were motorized as standard, they malfunctioned 3 or 4 times and had to be replaced. Once the warranty ran out , at some 400 EUR per side, I never bothered to replace again but I had a local car electrician do some improvised fixes.

Once, I forgot to fold the road side mirror on the Carrera, and after 5 minutes I found the mirror hanging outside the cowling, from the electrical cables. Fortunately, it was not broken. I just put the mirror in place and with a little push it was secured.

Never leave your mirrors unfolded, especially the one on the road side. Have in mind that pedestrians could also damage unwittingly your off side mirror if they carry heavy shopping bags or luggage. They are expensive to replace as they also involve painting, removing, assembling and fixing in place

Such are the differences between the States and the EU.  The vast number of cars here do not have motorized folding mirrors and those that do, only use the feature when others are around.

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

Anyone know how much weight is saved if you don't get sunroof?  How much more headroom?

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

The weight is some 14kg for glass. Headroom should not be affected as the sunroof opens on the outiside.

Fourteen kilograms doesn't seem much; however, remember that the additional weight is at the highest point of the car, effectively raising the center of gravity!

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

How about the weight difference between no sunroof vs the painted sunroof?

and how much weight penalty is on metal sunroof, dont you know please?

How did he manage to get black roof on white turbo?

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

It is the glass sunroof. The metal part of the roof is painted in black to give a uniform appearance.

Judging by the pictures, I don't like it. It spoils the homogeneity of the design.

I don't think anyone would feel the weight difference of the steel vs glass roof in real world traffic, to be honest. angry

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

I do not like the turbo's design.

The rear is too wide... so wide it actually looks absurd. As the front of the car does not look any different than the one of a carrera, the back looks overdesigned.

Hopefully, it looks better in real.

IMHO, I think Porsche is messing with the 911 to transform it into some gt car. Sad. If they do want a GT in their line up, they shoud just do a Panamera coupe.

Do not get me wrong. The 991 might still be a sportscar, but the car looks more and more like a GT.
